I make this comment about Max, because in her final vision ,she sees her three children, her grandchildren,her HUSBAND.Hans and Rosa Hubermann and Rudy. Because Max is not mentioned personaly, could he be her husband?

I read this book, and completely agree with this review. It's a slow read, but reading it slow is one of the best parts. It really lets you get deep into the characters, and the tragic ending was exceptional, although very sad.

@Sophist63 The narrator of the book is really death. But I feel like the book is not only from Death's point of view but from Liesel's. So I guess in a way you could say there are two narrators, even though Death is the more prominent one. Yes, there is humor. A lot of darker humor though (which I love!). Yes, I read IATM also, and while I don't think it was better than The Book Thief, I do think that the moral of the story was great. But what really blew me away in that book was the writing.

I have to agree, this has to be my favourite book ever, it's not very often that a book fills me with absolute joy and makes me cry. This is a need-to-read!

i declare The Book Thief the saddest ending that i ever read! and i allways cry when i think of Rudy, he doesn't deserve to die. ;( But i always cry when i think of what Leisel (or however you spell it) said about his lifeless face

I'm getting addicted to this book! But one suggestion to anyone who will consider reading this book.

Do NOT skim around the book that much because if you're as stupid as me, you might stumble upon a major story plot revealed, so yeah. But you're review was the one that actually got me wanting to read this book. Great Job!

Just finished The Book Thief......MASTERPIECE!!!!!

Even though I'm a guy I was tearing up at the end! That book is beyond the realms of power! Rudy is the most tragic character ever! Felt so bad that he never felt Liesel's kiss =(

And when that old man gets whipped for accepting bread from Hans =( this book really does show the two halves of the human spectrum: beauty(in every sense of the word) and corruption (again, in every sense of the word).

Not a book to be forgotten - my rating: *****

Oh yeah and I want to check out Zusak's other book, though I know it most likely wont be as good, or deep as this one, I've heard its still good tho! Oh yeah and I loved deaths side comments, like when he would randomely give a definition or some main points or something in bold=) ok enough comments from me lol! i read the interview in the back where the author said he was originally going to make death hateful and negative toward humanity, but how that just didnt fit with the story, so he made him compassionate and somewhat pitying so much death with humans and all, god. this book was written so beautifully and this author is amazing. and the ending made me cry too! sometimes i LOVE when books have the power to play with my emotions and make me cry so much lol. GREAT review glad you <3ed it so much!!

OMGOSH Im SO EXCITED you loved it this much! lol I was waiting for your review. so i couldnt agree with you MORE on all your points. didnt you LOVE hans?? I fell in love with him! (not in romantic way) he is just the sweetest parent....the most caring..omggg. and then max...and his book to liesel made me CRY lol. and the ending made me cry. and i loved rudy! i thot it was SO cute when he painted his skin black lol! and then it told from deaths POV omg. @Kod3Gr33n I loved it. Yes, in the beginning it is very slow, but once you reach a certain point, it becomes super good. I prefer The Host over Twilight.
