  • i love birds but i hate these little motherfuckers they attack me lol been bitten like 25 times

  • Willy wagtails SEEM cute and friendly but they're ACTUALLY defending their territory. They try to scare you away LOL!! Sometimes they swoop infront of my bike when i'm riding and they also kind of hop up to scare you away, trying to get as close as they can until they get too scared and back up.

  • cute

  • They're very cute and very bossy. They love swooping other birds. I've seen one chasing a dog once hehe

  • Hahahaha I went camping and saw this strange bird at the Princetown camping ground in Australia, and he did this funny waving thing over the ground with his tail, my boyfriend and I bought a bird book, and I was shocked it was called a Willy 'Wag Tail' LMAO! YES! An AWESOME Aussie bird!!!!

  • They are very territorial. I have seen one swoop and chase a cat and they make a weird clicking sound.

  • catch it !

  • willy wagtail.. <3 i love the alliteration!! long live Australian unique nature birdies and sea mammals too : )

  • What about our marsupials?

I love these little birds though, it's mating season and I can hear the boys singing now.

  • they sing at night during mating season. we hear them its kinda freaky.

  • How cute!

  • If you listen to the Wagtail's birdcall, you will understand it, (forever!), as "Sweet, pretty little creature", which is obviously what it is. They are voracious insect eaters, and I suspect the hanging around and bothering pets is because they are more likely to "score" a meal nearby!

That they will attack much larger birds, that could have them for a snack, shows they are quite game and plucky little creatures as well!

    Ivan.

  • there's a wonderful Aboriginal tale about how the Willy Wagtail came to be.Apparently a young warrior would not learn the dances of his tribe, but prefered to do his own thing.so the elders tranformed him into a bird as punishment, and to this day he dances his own improbable moves.

I love Willy Wagtail.See 'em in my backyard all the time.

  • What a great story! Thanks for that :D

  • I love the aboriginal stories of how things came to be as they are. These stories somehow make sense to me. If only we could capture the Elders magic and use it on our Politicians...

  • ahhh, the little "willy wag tail",

heaps gutsy these birds, they attack cats and big magpies and crows.

  • I didn't know that! Very cool and always adorable :)

  • yeah you should see 'em go, we got afew in our back yard, they swoop at our dog (staffy x bullterrier) while she eats, she just puts up with it, and me when i'm mowing the lawn, must be a nest near by, funny to watch, they also keep the flying insect numbers down

  • that bird is awesome
