You could be wearing pink and white with sparkles, with a super bubbly, happy personality... it doesn't matter.

It's all about the music... anything else is derivative or coincidental.

Like metal. Being a metalhead is not about having long hair, a black t shirt, and an attitude... its about listening to metal.

I guess it just inadvertantly comes with the territory? I do know a few huge 80's music fans that happen to like some Goth bands. However, none of them call themselves Goth.

Really, you can't compare Goth to Metal. They're complete opposites in many ways.

The metal analogy was used because they are so different... it leaves only the debated issue.

I think it's a matter of similar people liking similar music and styles. If you like music with a dark aesthetic, chances are you'll also enjoy clothing and surroundings with a dark aesthetic. Also, the bands and members of the scene expose people to and influence that aesthetic.

PS: I look like more of a metalhead than a 'goth' most of the time to most people. Not that I'd call myself a goth, but it is one of the main genres I listen to.

I'm 38 now, and dress like an average [boring] person, but I have LOVED gothic and darkwave music since my early 20's. I've never been to a club, but if I could talk a friend into going to a CofX, Bella Morte, or (... take your pick of the great bands out there) concert, I'd jump at the chance.

I agree with the word "similar." It's similar in nature to Sister's sound, but it doesn't sound exactly like Sisters of Mercy. I think that Sisters incorporates more jazz and dark ambient industrial elements into its music than Xymox.

It's still agreat song, and they're a very good group.
