You do realize that the song you are talking about is actually a sample right? Daft punk's stuff is almost all samples. Have you considered that katy perry's producer used the same samples as them?
@BIGGrobb you raise an excellent point. There are only so many sample packs in the world. What's important is how you use them, not how much they sound like some other song. Producers also prefer to use methods that cost the least money possible, and frankly, honestly, a sample pack is WAY cheaper than a real musician. Also, the drum machine doesn't skip practise to get drunk and laid lol.
@VertexAvenger I had a drummer that skipped practice to get drunk all the time. That's why I enjoy producing, the only person I have to rely on really is me. Also, sample packs aren't the only way forward. I always carry about a dictaphone to record ideas, plus youtube is waaaay cheaper for samples. Even Skrillex has sampled videos from here.

You do realize that the song you are talking about is actually a sample right? Daft punk's stuff is almost all samples. Have you considered that katy perry's producer used the same samples as them?

@BIGGrobb you raise an excellent point. There are only so many sample packs in the world. What's important is how you use them, not how much they sound like some other song. Producers also prefer to use methods that cost the least money possible, and frankly, honestly, a sample pack is WAY cheaper than a real musician. Also, the drum machine doesn't skip practise to get drunk and laid lol.

@VertexAvenger I had a drummer that skipped practice to get drunk all the time. That's why I enjoy producing, the only person I have to rely on really is me. Also, sample packs aren't the only way forward. I always carry about a dictaphone to record ideas, plus youtube is waaaay cheaper for samples. Even Skrillex has sampled videos from here.

Ok, both songs are on the same key and the both sound very similar. But i think it was just a coincidence that Katy Perry made a similar sounding song. The producers of TGIF weren't intentionally copying Daft Punk and they didn't sample Daft Punk's song either. End of story.

...then "forget" and when musicians go and creat some "new" beat there bound to somehow remeber one part of another song they heard and put it into a beat and say hey I made this song! it happens all the time and really it only sounds like 5 seconds to a minute of the same beat if that. just opinion not trying to sound mean

Ok coming from Someone who Loves Daft Punk and likes this one Katy Perry song I will say it does sound a little the same beat wise but it is not completly the same also it's not that big of a deal if Katty uses three seconds to a minutes of bass beat in her song and but if she stole the hole song from Daft Punk and put her own lyrics to it and said it was her own THEN she would have a problem but like all music there is always at least some sampling the human brain stores things we hear and...

Maybe Katy Perry used Daft Punk's beat, and maybe she didn't. Many songs sound the same. Many artists do that nowadays. It's not really a big deal. :)

Who gives a shit if she did or didn't sample from Daft Punk. This is not an issue you should concern yourself with. It's music. There only so many ways to put together major chords (which is all that is here) before something sounds similar, which is all this is. It's not an exact duplicate it only sounds similar.

Not to be a troll, but so what? Famous musicians and their producers rip stuff all the time, it's not like that's going to change just because some people on youtube say so. Also, I really agree with kgmaistropitcher22. It's not like there's an unlimited combination of musical sounds out there.
