  • Wow!!!

First play ...Yeah! ( must admit i was doubtful for the first 30 secs )

Played it twice and its already addictive!!!

Repetitive play is always a good sign!

    Straight to Faves

    Brilliant

  • Yeah this does sound like a Bond theme. Shirley is a Bond Queen.

  • Comment removed

  • Great Bassey song but she would have been pipped at the post from cornel

  • And its SHOULD NOT be 360p ;)

  • Cornell's version fitted so perfectly.

  • Shirley bassey is the ultimate bond singer....good job.....IT WORKS.....CHEERS

  • Chis Cornell did the perfect opening-and thats that

  • This version has a hint of the James Bond 007 music worked into it. If only it had the movie's title in it, it would be perfect

  • This song does have a hint of the old James Bond 007 theme music. I only wish it had the movie's title worked into it; then, it would be perfect.

  • 0272515...

I totally agree with you... One Million %...!!

And all Bond Songs since & including Goldeneye were shite...!! Bonno & The Edge & producers etc, should have got Bassey to do Goldeneye...!!

  • ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • You Know My Name... Every time I find a new favourite song I stick with it for a while, listen to it on my way to school each day for about a week or two... I have been doing the exact same with You Know My Name, except the difference is... it has been for the past 5 years.

  • In You Know My Name you could feel the exceptional personality of the new Bond. In my opinion it doesnt work over here.

  • Yes, the Dame is the Queen of Bond themes and this proves that even a song not intended for this film works way better than the "actual theme". If the producers still have any common scense left they will have Shirley Bassey return for the 50th. Anniversary film along with Tom Jones perhaps for the ending credits or a duet or something. Rather than the latest trendy "one hit wonders". Thanks' for this and you're right; The Way it Should Have Been.

  • it would be suitable for QoS... "let me grieve"!

  • this could be the last ever proper bond song

  • wtf!! :/

  • You Know My Name is far better.

  • This song is okay but matching it up with these images just reminds me of how well Chris Cornell's theme song worked with this opening. The Bassey song doesn't go with these images at all. "Let me dance" as we have an image of veins spilling blood? Doesn't make sense.

  • This song would be perfect for a sequel to Quantum of Solace...Bond is starting to unfold a greater beginning as a 00 agent!

  • Fits quite well in the bond world, but I like much more the Chris Cornell song

  • While not the right song for this movie, this is still pretty damn amazing.

  • @TranceSFX Yep. Shirley Bassey is the queen when it comes to Bond theme songs.

  • @MarveIed It's really good, it could serve as a really solid alternative to you know my name.

  • Chris Cornell's song is far better.

  • @avalon665 I won't say so - they both - this and Cornell's song - have music by David Arnold - you can hear the Arnold Bond sound in the Bassey song.

  • unbelivable quality, better than any other, just, bad song?

  • The song sound very bond. I like it. I like Cornell too.

  • Once again, it would have been great to have Shirley sing both Craig Bond songs.

  • Thank you, 0272515, for adding this could-have-been Bond song to the intro of Casino Royale (2006). It fits perfectly to the opening credits. I have added it to my James Bond songs playlists so that others can find it.

  • chris cornells song was very good, i think they shoukd have used dame shirleys no good about goodbye for quantum of solace

  • ill go with chris cornel

  • I really like this song, the strings section "hints" to the primary them song of 007 and you can NOT ignore the stellar presentation sills of the Original Bond Girl Shirley Bassey.., I agree, this should have been the opening song.

  • I have to admit, I think Chris Cornell did a fantastic job. I love this song by Shirley but I think ANother way to Die deserves to be forgotten and replaced by this song ASAP!!

  • @ADMediaEmpire I think NO GOOD ABOUT GOODBYE should replace the Jack White song.

  • sorry, I'm sticking with old school on this one, the movie version is good but this one is awesome :)

  • this is rubbish compared with the original....good artist(shirley bassey) but wrong context.

  • Perfect!!!

  • The song is outstanding...Instead of making the song fit the title...maybe tweek the title fit the song

  • I saw a video where they worked this song into Quantum of Solace and it flowed better. I think that Chris Cornell's song was just fine for this.

  • Maybe they'll use it in a future movie hopefully.

  • This theme song is really nice.. but for the style of movie (high action and fighting/chasing sequences).. I think past paced music by Chris Cornell fit perfectly.

  • that would have been cool for brosnan to do casino royale, Craig is my favorite actor. I just would have liked to see the way it would have turned out

  • ...

  • The song is good. But You Know My Name is far better. Speaking of which Casino Royale is already a great movie. I fail to see any reason to improve. My personal favorite movie of all time.

  • @gruntora same with me

  • Crocodial Dundee meets Bond...

Even if it is Dame Bassey singing. Nop....

  • No no no!

What were you thinking to replace the great Chris Cornell?!

  • This doesn't work, both songs for this and Quantum are growers. But either way, Daniel is good, really good. Read the books, only two men work: Connery and Craig. They get it right. Brosnan started well, but failed badly in Die Another Day and Tomorrow Never Dies, he also over acted at times and looked uncomfortable. Read the books, Daniel is the man.

  • Spot on.

  • I have absolutely no interest in Craig Bond or the re-boot but what you have done here sits well in the titles. I didnt think it was possible but you've actually made this look like a James Bond film!

    Excellent!

  • Sorry, this theme doesn't work.

  • Lacks punch... BUT, this "The Way It Should Have Been" sounds a lot like a old James Bond song... and its cool!

  • Yep Bassey the perfect tune to a Bond film, but ... it also should be Brosnan

  • It should not be Brosnan....

  • Brosnan at 55 would look better than Craig any day.

  • This song doesn't have that hard edge that YKMN has... certainly not the best way to usher in the rookie 007.

  • kthebest 14 is right

  • man that sound like tina turner

  • 100 times worse than you know my name..

  • exactly

  • I completely disagree

  • i prefer you know my name it suits the movie than this

  • whoa, good choice.

  • Great Shirley Bassey tune!!

.....but I prefer "You Know My Name". :)

  • Moonraker or The Spy Who Loved Me - best two Bond films.

  • ...Moonraker? Seriously?

    Moonraker?

  • bwahahahaha... moonraker?! come on! the only good things were Chang, Drax and the coffin guy in Venice

  • Moonraker and Spy Who Loved Me had wit and charm - something Quantum of Solace seriously lacks and that's what a Bond film needs. We might as well be watching a Bourne film. They're great, just not sure why the Bonds are trying to replicate the formula when they should be repeating their own.

  • Moonraker and TSWLM had camp buffoonery, but hardly any wit or charm.

TB or FRWL would be better examples.

  • rofl moonraker, spy was ok, man with the golden gun better

  • that song suxx

  • I like "you know my name" better.. This one has a very classic bond feel to it, but it's almost like hearing "golden eye" over again.

  • goldeneye...best bond flick ever...period!

  • Goldeneye is not... best bond flick ever... period!

  • I know this is Shirley Bassey and the From what I can tell the song is called "The Living Tree" But what's it from? I can hear a variation of the Bond theme in it.

  • Hmm... I like the "You know my name" for it's rock-tuned feel and it's hardness on impact... but I can feel your point here. It does sound right to match the "deathly" atmosphere of previous Bond movie intro songs. I can't give a thumbs down, nor a very high thumbs up, I can give this song a thumbs diagonally upwards though.

  • "diagonally upwards" hahaha i didnt need to read anything else

  • you know my name by chris cornell fit perfectly cause it was a harder-edged rock song that fit great with the "new" bond portrayed by craig. The song shadowed his personality as 007 perfectly.

  • @wigooo64 Yeah I completely agree it was the start of a new bond so the song went perfectly!

  • @wigooo64 ; )

  • I like the soundtracks in Bond that was played by Brosnan, except "Die another day" by Mandona! I personally like Tomorrow never dies by Sheryl Crow, and The world is not enough by Gargage. Those were good songs!

  • Nope.

  • Bond songs used to be epic, now they're just shitty pop tunes. It's a shame.

    This works brilliantly though!

  • Don't know why they gave you negative reviews. I guess they hate the truth, even though I like goldeneye's and the world is no enough.

  • I don't even remember what I said, but I guess everyone didn't like it. Oh well.

  • You were saying that the bond songs used to be epic, and now there bad.

  • I soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo agree!!!!!!

  • oh come on! Both songs are good

  • No, ugly song. Especially compared to Chris Cornell's You Know My Name.

  • great song

  • Perfecto!

  • dude this fits perfectly

especially the scene with the knife fight

and she says let me die!

perfect they should have used this

  • oh this is unfamiliar but after some times listening to it i have to say that it really, really does work! actually it works perfectly!

  • That was great !

  • Very well done. Shame the opening animation was great but the movie sucked maybe if it didn't suck it would deserve a great opening like this.

  • WTF??? dosen't fit at all

  • Are u seriously saying that this is better than the theme they have !!! wats hapeneing to the world

  • ya i agrre this would be good for QOS

  • this would be good for QOS

  • nah, you can never go wrong with cornel,

  • no..... does not fit

  • EON should ask bassey to come back..she still has a good voice. this song proves it man.

  • not bad...

  • i like.. but still.. the real one is so much better, this is more james bond like tho

  • whats the name of this song

  • dude I know he did'nt make the video.i'm saying the music went will together.I thought it was a cool idea to use that music for that scence.

  • Thank the maker this wasn't the opening sequence score.

  • WOW 10/10 !!!!

Another great 'non theme' was K D Lang for Tomorrow Never Dies love y'to do that one

  • Exactly what I was thinking.

  • With the right editing I get it! Kudos ALWAYS to the legendary Shirley Bassey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dude let me tell you right now this is one of the coolest thing's I've ever seen on you tube. That's a really good idea and a very creative video to put together!Pretty cool!!!

  • This is classic bond music! Wasn't a big fan of the Chris Cornell song...

  • I never really understood why Shirley Bassey was so popular.

I saw and interview with Lyricist Don Black saying 'In my opinion I think Shirley should sing them all' and I thought '...No!'

  • Alot more Bond theme like than the one they used, i kinda like it.

  • it isn't very convinsing.

  • not good man its stale

  • This really is terrible. The gun barrel shot has to be a music explosion, and this is dull and boring.

  • good alternative maybe !!!!!

  • its a good theme song for this movie even if it not the one so shut up and stop posting fucked up comments

good work 0272515 keep it up ^^

  • Nah!...

  • Shirley whoops Cornell's arse.

  • wow...this song completely ruined the new bond. way to try and destroy something good

  • Not for this movie. However, I can DEFINITELY see them using this song eventually for a Bond movie. I'd love to see Shirley come back and do one more Bond song.

  • um.... no. this version is... well... just plain stupid

    sry

  • Wow comments!

Ok, so here's the thing on this. I probably prefer Chris Cornell's version, I was just demonstrating that the living tree "fits", not saying it would have been a better choice :o)

  • Oh no! Just noticed - "Casino Royale - The Way it Should Have Been" is not the best title in this case. Replace Should with "Could".

  • It lines up so well. Nice discovery!

  • I think 'You Know My Name' fits 'Casino Royale' better thematically, but this is an awesome song. Has anyone noticed the shades of the bond theme in it, around 1:06 and onwards, with the string section?

  • i prefer DSB because chris cornell changed the original theme song, download the song and compare it with the one from the intro of the movie, i prefer the one from the movie

  • i perfer the one they did in the first place

  • My 3 cents:

cent 1: Incredible performance by DSB (DSB is also the name for the danish national railway service, by the way)

cent 2: call me weird, but i tend to prefer the original version of "The Living Tree" by Never The Bride... fantastic vocals

cent 3: considering that the new Casino Royale is a lot grittier than the preceding bond-movies, i think Cornell's song is the right choice

  • The musical power of Dame Shirley Bassey in The Living Tree (released April 2007 of THIS YEAR) easily overtakes Chris Cornell's vocals in You Know My Name. This should have been the Casino Royale theme...

  • no no no this is all wrong, you know my name was so much better. you might have the right to change it but it sin't good.

  • You know my name was so much better bro

  • you know my name is so much better

  • havent heard the original but this is great .

  • So much better than the muck that one had to sit though!

  • This is great, it actually syncs quite well, but a few things could have been tweaked had they went with this... it really is a fantastic single from DSB and works w/ the bond song. 5/5

  • Uh, no.

  • Yes...keep the new one. Its nice and modern and isnt sung by an oldie.

  • although this is solid i still think the one that they used (chris cornell) for the movie fit it overall better.

3/5 (although if i had to choose between a 2 or 4 i would say 4 for this video.

  • Fully agree, including Shirley Bassey would have heightened the musical power.
