You Know My Name... Every time I find a new favourite song I stick with it for a while, listen to it on my way to school each day for about a week or two... I have been doing the exact same with You Know My Name, except the difference is... it has been for the past 5 years.
Yes, the Dame is the Queen of Bond themes and this proves that even a song not intended for this film works way better than the "actual theme". If the producers still have any common scense left they will have Shirley Bassey return for the 50th. Anniversary film along with Tom Jones perhaps for the ending credits or a duet or something. Rather than the latest trendy "one hit wonders". Thanks' for this and you're right; The Way it Should Have Been.
This song is okay but matching it up with these images just reminds me of how well Chris Cornell's theme song worked with this opening. The Bassey song doesn't go with these images at all. "Let me dance" as we have an image of veins spilling blood? Doesn't make sense.
Thank you, 0272515, for adding this could-have-been Bond song to the intro of Casino Royale (2006). It fits perfectly to the opening credits. I have added it to my James Bond songs playlists so that others can find it.
I really like this song, the strings section "hints" to the primary them song of 007 and you can NOT ignore the stellar presentation sills of the Original Bond Girl Shirley Bassey.., I agree, this should have been the opening song.
I have to admit, I think Chris Cornell did a fantastic job. I love this song by Shirley but I think ANother way to Die deserves to be forgotten and replaced by this song ASAP!!
This theme song is really nice.. but for the style of movie (high action and fighting/chasing sequences).. I think past paced music by Chris Cornell fit perfectly.
that would have been cool for brosnan to do casino royale, Craig is my favorite actor. I just would have liked to see the way it would have turned out
The song is good. But You Know My Name is far better. Speaking of which Casino Royale is already a great movie. I fail to see any reason to improve. My personal favorite movie of all time.
This doesn't work, both songs for this and Quantum are growers. But either way, Daniel is good, really good. Read the books, only two men work: Connery and Craig. They get it right. Brosnan started well, but failed badly in Die Another Day and Tomorrow Never Dies, he also over acted at times and looked uncomfortable. Read the books, Daniel is the man.
I have absolutely no interest in Craig Bond or the re-boot but what you have done here sits well in the titles. I didnt think it was possible but you've actually made this look like a James Bond film!
Moonraker and Spy Who Loved Me had wit and charm - something Quantum of Solace seriously lacks and that's what a Bond film needs. We might as well be watching a Bourne film. They're great, just not sure why the Bonds are trying to replicate the formula when they should be repeating their own.
I know this is Shirley Bassey and the From what I can tell the song is called "The Living Tree" But what's it from? I can hear a variation of the Bond theme in it.
Hmm... I like the "You know my name" for it's rock-tuned feel and it's hardness on impact... but I can feel your point here. It does sound right to match the "deathly" atmosphere of previous Bond movie intro songs. I can't give a thumbs down, nor a very high thumbs up, I can give this song a thumbs diagonally upwards though.
you know my name by chris cornell fit perfectly cause it was a harder-edged rock song that fit great with the "new" bond portrayed by craig. The song shadowed his personality as 007 perfectly.
I like the soundtracks in Bond that was played by Brosnan, except "Die another day" by Mandona! I personally like Tomorrow never dies by Sheryl Crow, and The world is not enough by Gargage. Those were good songs!
Dude let me tell you right now this is one of the coolest thing's I've ever seen on you tube. That's a really good idea and a very creative video to put together!Pretty cool!!!
Not for this movie. However, I can DEFINITELY see them using this song eventually for a Bond movie. I'd love to see Shirley come back and do one more Bond song.
Ok, so here's the thing on this. I probably prefer Chris Cornell's version, I was just demonstrating that the living tree "fits", not saying it would have been a better choice :o)
I think 'You Know My Name' fits 'Casino Royale' better thematically, but this is an awesome song. Has anyone noticed the shades of the bond theme in it, around 1:06 and onwards, with the string section?
i prefer DSB because chris cornell changed the original theme song, download the song and compare it with the one from the intro of the movie, i prefer the one from the movie
The musical power of Dame Shirley Bassey in The Living Tree (released April 2007 of THIS YEAR) easily overtakes Chris Cornell's vocals in You Know My Name. This should have been the Casino Royale theme...
This is great, it actually syncs quite well, but a few things could have been tweaked had they went with this... it really is a fantastic single from DSB and works w/ the bond song. 5/5
Wow!!!
First play ...Yeah! ( must admit i was doubtful for the first 30 secs )
Played it twice and its already addictive!!!
Repetitive play is always a good sign!

This song does have a hint of the old James Bond 007 theme music. I only wish it had the movie's title worked into it; then, it would be perfect.

My 3 cents:
cent 1: Incredible performance by DSB (DSB is also the name for the danish national railway service, by the way)
cent 2: call me weird, but i tend to prefer the original version of "The Living Tree" by Never The Bride... fantastic vocals
cent 3: considering that the new Casino Royale is a lot grittier than the preceding bond-movies, i think Cornell's song is the right choice
kaabejod 4 years ago
The musical power of Dame Shirley Bassey in The Living Tree (released April 2007 of THIS YEAR) easily overtakes Chris Cornell's vocals in You Know My Name. This should have been the Casino Royale theme...
