This guy has won a Gold Clasp at the Oban solo competitions 3 years on a row back in the nineties. He seems to have retired from competing, but he still has the magic touch!
Interesting. My grandmom grew up in south philly, but never heard of such thing. I had to go back to sicily to get my set. I guess it skipped a few generations ; )
wooooow! That was brilliant! are you using any drones?...or am i just deaf. Its brilliant! i want the music too :/ or just to see your fingers playing it up close so i could learn it that way! dreams. :) thats was fantastic. Really, it was.
That's actually really cool... You usually think of bagpipes as squeal-ey and belch-y but that is soooo beautiful. I love the song you're playing. I don't know what it is, to be honest, but it's nice. What city were you in? It's gorgeous too!!
that is Barga in Tuscany Italy ... put the name barganews into a search engine anbd have a look at the place ... it is the smallest city in Italy but VERY vibrant
Well, there are a couple of American univerisities in Florence, like the Syracuse University Florence Center, ideal if you want to study art or architecture
Seriously??? My dad went to syracuse!! Lol that would be really cool. And he actually mighnt agree to something like that. Thanks so much you're totally my hero!!!!
Hey, I ran through the video and think I have the tune figured out, sans a couple of notes perhaps or timing, I can put them up on my page in .bww or .pio form, or maybe just as an image file if people are interested
I call this tune 40 Pounds Float. By the way, that's me playing, and the tune is from the movie Titanic, so you can check if you don't believe it. The second part is improvised...maybe it sounds like Ryan's Polka, I don't know. Did I violate any copyrights?
its more the fact that you are watching this film which was shot in Barga Tuscany Italy and not scotland - that makes it interesting don't you think ? This was a jamming session on the street, they had never played together before ... in fact it was the first time that the guitar player had EVER played with a pipes player ... he tuned down his guitar to be join the piper ...
i didnt know any of that. i just new that they were playin. but having a musical talent especially in guitar, thats pretty damn good. just because your barga news oh man.
Fantastic video...I love the song and the great flow you guys had.

I like bagpipes but I thought this was going to be Italian bagpipes. They used to have them when I was a kid in Little Italy in NYC.

I'm not sure that it is John Ryans Polka. You can find the sheet music here:
google chris peterson cpmusic
I took the music to Coleraine this year and got 3 lassies to play it (2 fiddles & guitar); they said they called it the 2nd Kerry Polka.
But I got my daughter to write our the music for Nick's tune for my practice chanter - I've just ad libbed on the grace notes.
