I stopped around Sonic Heroes too. That Shadow the Hedgehog was the rock bottom of the series to me.

I do admit alot of the time on the long stretches holding down a boost button instead of earning high speed through momentum based acceleration can be a bit bland for me, but it plays like a racing game in that you do need to moderate it and do need to be aware, which is still good.

When the point of the game has become more about achieving perfect speedruns and not simply playing the game, thas when you gotta change things up. Thank goodness for Colors.

@DaELFGokulio Not at all. Hell, in Generations you CAN beat earlier levels by just boosting through them, but the final three worlds will kick your ass and you'll actually be going slower than if you focused, took the upper path, and only used the boost on appropriate portions of the track anyway.

That wasn't my point. My point is the gameplay basically makes you become a boost fanatic, even if you're just trying to find alternate paths or explore. Try getting the secret shortcuts in Speed Highway WITHOUT Boosting. I promise you, you can only get so far. Yes, the later levels will test your resolve by going towards precision platforming and steady focus, but if the game was simply built for high speed thrills, then anything regarding "normal platforming" is clunky.

@NerfedFalcon In Sonic games you must not only TIME what you do in a level but you must also memorize the ENTIRE stage PERFECTLY, if you want to get a good rank. Then you must find the fastest and the quickest routes in the level, while at the same time you can't take ANY AMOUNT OF DAMAGE WHAT-SO-EVER.

I hate when someone says "All you do is hold down the X button", only a Sonic newbi would say that. Anyone who plays Sonic games with skills knows theres WAY more to it than that...

Looking back at this, Sonic Generations wipes the floor with this game. This really is 'boost to win' and I hate to say that cause I considered that fanboy nitpicking but Generations actually requires strategy; using boost effectively and has a great balance of platforming and speed/boosting. Modern Sonic can platform and be fast! Thank you SEGA for Sonic Generations!

The Unleashed level, i must say since watching it does look impressive without a doubt, however Generations at least had the boosting limited a bit more and as someone else had said before it is more challenging, Generations also made sense with the Blimp dropping Barrels, in other words it made more sense realistically.

@meowser007 thats because this one was designed to be fast paced and you didnt actually have to do THAT much. Generations one was designed to be a little more of a challenge trying to include more platforming, but in this stage there inst that much really. If you are good at Sonic you can boost 80% of the stage. I dont say unleashed is bad or easy, but the day stages are almost running non-stop all the time with little to no challenge. I liked that tho, but generations was better IMO.

i prefer this version of stage rather than the one on sonic generations. imo,the modern sonic in sonic generations got too much platforming ( which i think platforming should be left out for classic sonic ). not that platforming is bad, it just break the pace for modern sonic.

@DeepFriedHorse I disagree. I think platforming is what Sonic is all about. And the more of it in 3D the better. Why don't you play some early 2000s Sonic games. Those have platforming and speed at once. For me, running along a rail boosting for the whole level is boring, no matter what the landscape.

@jedimasterpickle3 i actually enjoy the platforming, especially classic sonic's platforming. maybe don't remove all the platforming, just reduce the 2d platforming in modern sonic because it breaks the pace too much. there should be more 3d platforming for modern sonic, which I like (it's also similar to the 2000s 3d sonic platforming). the 2d modern sonic platforming ,like modern planet wisp is kinda boring to me, maybe because i hope for speed in modern sonic and platforming in classic

That's the funny thing about Sonic games, when done in speed run format and S-ranked they look absolutely amazing and not frustrating at all, which Unleashed was in so many ways. I don't think mixing 2D sections in a 3D level is a good idea cos it throws you off your pace. Generations was fantastic though and a joy to play start to finish :)
