Intorno all'idol mio Spirate pur spirate Aure aure soavi e grate E nelle guance elette Baciatelo per me cortesi cortesi aurette Al mio ben che riposa Su l'ali della quiete Grati grati sogni assistete E il mio racchiuso ardore Svelategli per me o larve o larve d'amore
Since english is not my mother language, I try to express my thoughts in a clear way. I dont understand exactly what you mean by saying "I also think light, intimate and sincere at others" so I answer as below: 1. if that goes to the people who comment in this video, no matter what is their opinion, I apologize if my comment was offensive. 2. if that goes to other artists, of course there are artists with intimacy and truth, but I think Cecilia is a pure example of what joy of music concerning.
@charmeueueur It´s very difficult for me understand english. I say in spanish:
"Comparto su opinión sobre el trabajo artístico de Cecilia. Es desde luego exuberante en su expresividad, generosa en la entrega, vitalista, alegre y desenfadada a veces, pero yo también pienso, luminosa, íntima y sincera en otras". Me gusta Cecilia porque canta con el cuerpo y el alma.
Oh no, listening to it again I find that I liked it more before. Too much ugly vibrato, just visceral special effects to entertain certain group of people who are excited to see a woman singing but hear ugly forced low notes pretending that she is a MAN! This piece is supposed to sound HEAVENTLY, SUBLIME. Bartoli just shows off her ability to produce special effects as the majority of all people can't hear the difference and make money on it. All that the crowd wants is "Panem et circenses"....
@serenaluce It is a very sweet and bitter song where vibrato plays a role in the expression of the tenderness of its message. I don't see that as kitsch, but very mucha romantic and melancholic touch which in my view is totally in tune, as is here warm alto voice totally in tune with the portée of this song.
@starimirko1 Actually, you know, tastes differ and it's only exchange of opinions on YT. All opinions should be allowed, not only praises to artists. And opinions about art often clash. It's normal. There would be no development in any field if all the people only agreed with each other and never criticized e.g.overpromoted artists. IMO to express this romantic and melancholic touch as you say any singer, especially a woman shouldn't use much vibratio which is not in tune but makes it ugly.Sorry
@serenaluce I am very sensitive when it comes to vibrato. Most of the time, and I agree with you on that, vibrato is used to sugar it up with a poor and 'over the top' result. No question about that. But I just do not agree on this one, especially not this one! lets agree to disagree then here.
@starimirko1 Of course, let's agree to disagree. Different people hear the same stuff in a different way. Beauty of singing is in the ear of the listener. The same quality in an artist can be very appealing to one and sound unpleasant to another:-). It's not the end of the world:-). Bartoli has her own fans. If people like her, it's good. I just expressed MY opinion that I consider her an overpromoted commercial singer with only visceral special effects, and there are much better artists...
@serenaluce By calling her a 'overpromoted commercial singer' , It seems to me now that you valuated this song not as such merely on its own merits, but that your opinion about it is apparently influenced by the pre-assumption and knowledge you had on forehand about her. I think it is an unfair argument.
I am hardly interested in who or what Bartoli is as a singer, I am not a follower of her at all. I just think this execution is done perfectly and in style with the message of it. That's all.
@starimirko1 What do you call pre-assumption and knowledge about Bartoli if I discovered her only on YT about 2 years ago, and mentioned that I listened to this piece before and it sounded better to me then?! I'm fed up! I tried to understand why so hype about her as IMO she doesn't deserve such fame and there are much better, finer singers with great, smooth, effortless technique who are just not promoted. And I made a conclusion that the crowd just wants VISCERAL SPECIAL EFFECTS, entertainment
@serenaluce Apparently you are on a different track in this discussion. I am just interested in listening and valuating the execution of this piece as such, without interfering non-information about the performer. Nice talking to you, Bye
@starimirko1 I'm also just interested in listening and valuating the execution of this piece. But do you always LIKE and ENJOY what you hear without comparing it with your previous experience and with other artists' versions? It's YT and all the OPINIONS of listeners should be allowed, not only compliments, don't you think? I have nothing against Bartoli as a person, but as a listener I have a right to listen and express MY opinion that it's ugly and won't buy her recordings. You can enjoy, bye.
@serenaluce your opinion is a fair and respectable one. Though, i have to say that not many artists in general present the joy of music making, from a very deep point of their souls, and hopefully Cecilia sings every single note from this very deep point of her existence, no matter how deep it is or not. My deepest respect to Bartoli. I wish i could deliver my music making from such a deep point of mine.
@charmeueueur I share your opinion about the artistic work of Cecilia. It is certainly exuberant expressiveness, generous in dedication, lively, cheerful and carefree at times, but I also think light, intimate and sincere at others.
@mariadelamor21 This is the best artistic interpretation of this art song, nobody else sings this as well as Batroli, she is a master, this is a very difficult song to sing and she executes it effortlessly. CJS
I'm working on this song right now--I heard it on Cecilia's album and absolutely fell in love with it. She sings it beautifully, with so much depth of feeling.
It's not too bad, of course, but to my liking way too much vibrato! The most beautiful version of this song I've ever heard is Nicholas Spanos's! THAT is really heavenly and sublime!
Rabbi, this is a bigger issue, I agree with you, at least partly. Those who are "in the know" do not like to see their passion treated like a poorish, shallow thing. We could talk ages about this because this envolves the freedom of expressing feelings...but youtube is not the right tool.
Va bene Rabbi, ho capito. Your criticism is ok to me. I do not agree but I respect your position as you are one of the many who don't like Cecilia's tessitura transitions or coloratura. My assumption is that you will have as many opinions as the people you will talk to. So what is the point to attack those who don't think the way you do? If your sensitivity hurts with Cecilia or Maria's voices ok, no problem to me.
AHAHAHAH Ovviosamente!!! "abbastanza pessima" ma dove le hai trovate? AHAHAHAHAH ma dai....sii serio! Ridicolo AHAHAHAHAH!
Thanks for posting this video! I have been haunted by this Cesti song since i first heard it as a university music major in the late 80s, but i lost my recording of it years ago! Bartoli's voice is sublime! But for aurias from this period, i really crave a simple, sans vibrato style of singing. Anyone know of any such recordings?
@btEnglish09 I know such version if you like countertenors. In my opinion the best version, "a simple, sans vibrato style of singing" and inexpressively beautiful is sung by Nicholas Spanos.
