Wow -- Mary Travers is the freak'in "mom" mtRNA|DNA to Gisel Bündchen, among the recent decade's mega-top-dollar-paid fashions models ever...whereas, many contemporaneous critics et al narrow thinkers, discounted Mary's "strong looks" as, at best, a cruder version of the "Julie Christie school of peroxide-locks"; whereas, in retrospect--at least for newer generations--review of the ubber-graphical stagings, w/high-key lighting, proves my salient point. Not my type, but lookers all the same!
Totally hate the arrangement on this one. Mary tries her best but I had to hear Laura Nyro do this tune immediately after I heard this to wash this travesty out of my brain. Only good thing I can say is that Laura made money off of this.
My Nanny sang her songs to me to sleep, later I listened to them live and their recordings. Miss her so much. Like Pete Seeger did, build another generation to continue hammering the Nation with songs of the heart
great performance, i just wish they let people sing their songs on these kinds of shows and not have to do all the bullshit that went with it. its emberrasing to watch. pete seeger did it right for the hot minute they let him have a show...
A perfectly controlled, televised session for the masses - and I love it. Three talented women. One of my first LPs was a PP&M record w/ 'Puff....' and "Big Boat up the River" (wish I could find that). Cass Eliot is so good on camera just sitting, watching. And let's hear it for the composer of this piece - a fine, underrated performer as well - Laura Nyro. Thank them and bless 'em all.
PP&M rose above the pack by the attention they paid to arrangement.
While they were not at peak musically (singing, writing etc.) they had a magic.
Quite a number of years later they came to town as part of one of their occasional reunion tours and we went to see them for "old time's sake" not really expecting much beyond a trip down memory lane.
They were better than ever. Better singers, many profound new compositions and amazing entertainers. They went on improving many years. more.
I am 15 and I think Mary Travers is not only gorgeous, but also amazingly talented and obviously kind. I'd rather listen to her than Taylor Swift or Lady Gaga any day. R.I.P Mary, you are an inspiraion, and you will never be forgotten.
@DELPHI1945 Oh my god... Now I feel bad, I had no idea! Guess I should have read the description.. Oh well, I still don't understand the clown outfit, though. Whatever.
@HorrorPixieMassacre So the reason you "NOW" feel bad is because you have been told that the person you described as a "creepy girl in the rainbow circus clothing wtf" , is a person you didn't recognize as a celebrity?
Mary was an incredibly talented singer and performer. That wonderful voice has been silenced, but I my memories from having seen Peter Paul and Mary from their beginning, with always be with me.
Mary, there are hundreds of children that will carry on,your songs words and your passion for the world will live forever,we miss you.RIP Mary and thank you.
Really beautiful-from the late 60's I guess. Dear Laura Nyro, how under appreciated you were, gone too soon. And Dear Mary- my life all the better - you were there all along. Thanks!
Her stance, the way she moved her hands, head and shoulders...all so very much her. This sweet video brings back so many memories of seeing her perform live. Thank you for posting this.
OMG... This is from the first Album my mother bought me, before she went to Vietnam to serve in the war... Other Side Of This Life (1966) I listened to this over and over...I loved looking a the photos on the Album.. it looked like they where having such an adventure...I would sit and listen to the album and wonder what my mother was doing over-there..I had no idea at that time just what was really happing RIP .....Mary Travers.
I grew up listening to Mary, as well as Peter and Paul. How I will miss all of their Christmas specials... especially with the kids. Rest In Peace, Mary. You're voice and music will live on. Thanks ppmcsk for posting this awesome video.
You are beautiful, Mary, and I miss you! I first saw PP&M in St. Louis in 1968. Then in Kasas City the next year. Got to the reunion concert in FL in 2005. Mary, you are part of my heart and soul.
@unclebobunclebob It's Laura Nyro's song, but the recording of it by Peter, Paul and Mary is one of the big breaks that Laura Nyro got, well before anyone had heard of her (or Blood, Sweat and Tears for that matter.) The PP&M version was a nice one IMHO, though nothing matches Nyro's originals.
I don't think so. Janice was originally a hippie DUDE, lol! Had a soul patch and everything. But since Miss Piggy was the only chick at that time, they decided to make Janice...Janice.
Janice looking like Mary was just a coincidence. But she does! :D
