If you think this is good, you'll be ecstatic at Mark Vincent's version on his new album "Songs from the Heart". You'll hear how the song should be sung.
@butterflywing009 I have just watched Mark Vincent- Time To Say Goodbye, Nessun dorma (these are what I've got from searching for Mark Vincent on youtube), and... he sings those songs in such a way which I can't and cannot bear laughing... What an incredible shame. First reading your comment: 'You'll hear how the song should be sung', I think you should be a first-class audience, but after viewing videos of Mark Vincent on youtube, I figure out I am totally wrong.
@TerriRees I totally agree with you. To the critics, please post your singing videos and we will judge. Otherwise as Terri says be happy for him and just enjoy his music, He is a beautiful singer coming from his background. Go Paul!
I'm not a youtube music expert I just like it because I can hear the words in english and he didn't melt my headphones trying to make sounds only a dog can hear. The reason I like youtube is I can listens to singers and songs that I didn't have the chance to hear growing up.
@ sikariou...what are your credentials? have you researched Paul Potts credentials? unless you're Luciana Pavarotti, or someone of his caliber, you have absolutely no, and society means no, room to criticize someone else. What kind of an ass are you? You probably have no musical training, and your posting crap (your opinion).
@jakevm11 It's Luciano, not Luciana. That proves I know more than you do. I know you probably accidentally misspelled his name, but believe me, you don't need a PhD in musical theory or to be one of the greatest tenors in known history to hear the weakness in Mr. Potts voice. His story is an exceptional one and I am very happy for him and how far from a cell-phone salesman he has come. Read taurdur's comment below. It is the truth.
@sikariou Yes, a simple typo "a" vs. "o". But still, your narrow mindedness is exactly the case in point. Because I make a typo, now means it proves emphatically that you know more than I do...yeah! right!
How come you still have avoided the question in the first place? what are your credentials? This is exactly what I'm referring to...you criticize others...most likely inferiority complex. What diff does it make if he sold phones? you obviously look down on that (maybe he made $75K/year).
@jakevm11 Why is his opinion 'crap'? This is faux-quality being passed off as quality, and mis-representaion of quality is an unforgiveable sin. He's a very good singer ... great ? Absolutely not. It's like comparing an X-factor favourite to Sumi Jo. Does his skill command the extravagance of the setting and support? No.
@Nautilus1972 The original post is no longer available...perhaps you would know if you had read it. Apparently, it either received too many negatives, or sikariou doesn't have enough integrity to stand for his/her words. Just as I suspected and asked what credentials he/she had. The post was a flagrant attack at Mr. Potts, not his singing.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@Nautilus1972 additionally, whoever stated he was the same caliber of Pavarotti, or Bocelli? Not me. I addressed sikariou's criticisms of a good singer; not Mr. Potts being the caliber of Sumi Jo or other greats. I asked for credentials, to which chickens inevitably avoid. BTW...it's not faux-quality...it's most likely a hell of lot better than what you or I could do. At the greats level, absolutely not...not a misrepresentation..just a representation of Mr. Potts (keep it simple stupid) KISS
I feel sorry for him. He is being paid good money for this (hopefully) and has his "fame" moment... but is it worth to prostitute yourself without even being good at it? I don't know. The most pathetic thing is not him, but those who put him in this situation. Surely they realise what they are doing, putting on and promoting such awful singing?
He makes a valiant effort, but he doesn't have the consistency in his voice that would be necessary to consider his talent among the "greats". Some notes are very good, some are slightly off or weak, etc. He will never be a Pavarotti or Bjorling.
@sikariou - I agree... with the part he will never be Pavarotti, Bjorling or (may I add) Brocelli. But that is just the point. Pavarotti will never be Bjorling or Brocelli and vice versa. He will be Paul Potts. A greatness in itself.
some people who comment on this forum might want to listen to pavarotti singing desum dorma live early 1980s. then come back and listen to this again. this doesnt quite hit the right notes. i toally agree with dambram on this
CoCoismywhawha So a professional performer should only be able to perform to an acceptable standard whilst in a studio? Ridiculous. If you are unable to identify the tuning, diction issues here then you have hearing problems. Performers will often listen to criticism. Their fans ( or "wannabees") simply cannot. The real question would be whether Mr. Potts would release THIS performance as a recording. I think not. Me a hater? No. I like to see folk "get on" but this, simply, is very poor.
Good Grief haters, this is not a studio recording,... just taped from the audience. Despite who knows what techno is being used, his vocalization is great. I hope you don't try to make a living by being a music critic. You will get very hungry.

Just plain awful, it sounds whiny and his words just don't flow.

This, I'm afraid is pretty awful. Real tuning issues here. He really should not sing this song. A very amatuer and poor performance sadly.
