@ tenactitans get some on road tires if your gonna run on asphault or cement, stock ones are fine but they will wear out very quickly on aspahault. second get a battery with plenty of mah, a 2s lipo 5000 MAH or more will do the trick. run time depends on how hard you run it. last thing is you can install the extra pinion gear that will come in the box, that will give u a better top speed. you tube has lots of how to videos, watch them and learn.

holy shit i just got my brand new rustler vxl with 5400 3s 11.1 volt venom and it fips when i give it full throttle and high speed and it flies right up it the air and goes sliding on the body like it's on ice! i love it! having the venom charger really helps my charging too. oh and i have it geared at 31-76. i have no regrets about buying this whole setup at all. i have 6 other nitro trucks and cars and i don'[t see myself running it for a long time now!

Iv been using a set of Reedy 5000 2s 35c packs for my losi 8ight brushless buggy with a castle creations MMM esc 2200kv setup, they fit in the emaxx and have alot of power.

lipos dont melt they explode, but only if u puncture, over charge/discharge or seriously abuse them. they are 100% worth it . u need special charger etc, but u can get it all cheap at hobbyking(.)com

No you dont have to cut it, but i wanted to let more air in to cool the vxl esc since i was running a Maxamps 3s 8000mah lipo pack in it. I didnt want to risk overheating.

ur engine is hot because u are under geared, u need to have at least a 23 pinion

Thanks for the comments! i dont think a fan will fit in the stock tranny case, but i heard fastlane has a metal alloy tranny case that has enough room for a fan, plus the tranny case acts as a heatsink to keep the motor cooler. just google it. hope that helped some.

I have a completely built rustler with all the traxxas upgrades and I run it with anaconda tires all the way around. I run the MaxAmps 5000 and have hit 70 on a radar gun and it draws crowds...I love it.

You only need the fan if your ESC is getting really hot, not neccesarily depending on your battery choice. It's really useful if you live in a hot place. Some people choose to run a fan with Lipos because they want to keep the ESC cool during long runtimes

Unfortunately, no. At least, Traxxas doesn't make a cooling fan for the xl5, so I'd check around to see if anyone else sells an aftermarket fan that will work.

I think you should get the rustler. it handles better and if you want to convert to a buggy all you need is the body and wheels. normaly the bandit has smaller a-arms but i have both and i swaped my stock bandit arms for the rustlers and throw on some 1/8 wheel adaptors and it looks sick! wider handles better. there both alot of fun to drive! hope this helped some.

you would go much faster if you tightened up the slipper clutch. just tighten it all the way then back off 1/4 of a turn
