As an avid fan of the original Speed Racer, I was disappointed in the way the Wachowshi brothers pulled this movie off. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't close to the show at all.
Even the old anime wasn't this ridiculously bright and seizure-inducing, nor did it have crazy stupid characters in gaudy and garish clothes and no character depth.

Surprisingly awesome film. I went in confused as to why such a thing would be made and came out feeling as though they justified it. If you're really sensitive to language, they do swear a few time and there is some suggested violence involving piranhas. None of the heroes use guns to shoot anyone and there are some great family values, though.

I watched speed racer when I was young and I was excited when I heard there gonna make a movie but now after I see the trailer I'm a little skeptical. The effects remind me of some Dr. Suess movie. You must handle Live-action versions of cartoons with care, or else you end up like Alvin and the Chipmunks movie with absolutely no plot.
Speed Racer was a Japanese anime, it's not from Spy Kids, it's way cooler and much older. It was called MachGoGoGo. As for the vintage part, it first aired in the 60s so maybe that's why. I don't know. Shutting up.

Biggest disappointment is the fact that only 1 character seems to be talking the way they do in the cartoon series. If you're going to spend millions on CGI, and take the time to make a movie based on a show that's been around this long, then at least do it right. Gonna see it anyway.

Did anyone notice his white socks? I miss the blue ones :( I also miss the choppy talking. And the "ooh, oooh!" when he starts going to fast. And I think it's less the "cartoony" factor, it's just too futuristic to be Speed Racer. Did you see Trixie's little headset? It was crazy! "Move it Speed! It's getting ugly out there!" Yeah, lame sauce.

Biggest disappointment is the fact that only 1 character seems to be talking the way they do in the cartoon series. If you're going to spend millions on CGI, and take the time to make a movie based on a show that's been around this long, then at least do it right. Gonna see it anyway.

I think that people are forgetting that this is supposed to be a film for kids more than it is a movie for adults. Find me a kid who doesn't think this looks awesome and I might agree that it is going to be bad. But I think you would be hard pressed . . .
This movie seems to me like it is going to be cool, and the fact that it doesn't conform to the violent and super-realistic standards that exist in R-rated movies and video games today doesn't mean that it is going to be horrible.

i know this sounds lame....but you totally rule. I laughed at the horrible dubs of speed racer wen i was little but i still liked it. I love bright colours too. Plus im still a teen and im probably gunna take my 7 yr old brother with me. I spoil him too much =_= anyway, ur right, it sounds like a great kids movie.
