We don't have an MP for Wandsworth. Sadiq Khan is MP for tooting. If you met Mark Clarke you would realise that Daniel Hannan is by far and away a more reputable politician and someone I would far prefer representing me.

There were multiple votes in Iceland on banking going back decades leading up to the crisis. There was never any guarantee on those accounts, implicit or explicit. British institutions accepted the risk without understanding the nature of it and expected a bailout from Iceland greater than its GDP.

Well, the tax has now gone through; It was a huge success, raising about $4bn in one year, and the bankers are all still here. The advantage the Brits have is that if they set up residence abroad they no longer have to pay British taxes. I, as an American, don't have this option. And if things get bad you can be sure that the IRS will be checking Swiss banks, threatening the Cayman Islands. Oh wait, they have.

That's a lie. Socialist governments usually end when the 'virtual parliament' of unelected speculators in cahoots with powerful elites convince socialist governments to attack their base. This is what happened for instance in the UK during 1976-79 under James Callaghan. They got unions to agree to rises that were way below the inflation rate. This demoralised the base. In 1978-79, they tried to force a 5% rise and were left with industrial action - the Winter of Discontent.

Some British people get the two mixed up. WW* is just a small part that was added on after the internet was made of the internet With out WW* the Internet still exist. Britain has made far more than their share of inventions but, the Internet and the electric computer are not one of them

if we had to have a depression instead of bailing out the banks, so be it. sure, it woulda been hard on millions of people, but at least we wouldn't have created a dangerous precedent that allows bailouts to happen time and time again. and the economy is STILL hard on millions of people as it is. let the companies fail. other ones will take their place. economies go through rough times- it is INEVITABLE. don't use my hard earned tax dollars to pay for stupid mistakes by others

Nonsense, America has little over 300 years of history to it, Britain, France, Russia have existed as nations for 1000 years or more and democracy is something which has developed in Britian as a national characteristic, the only nation to have democracy inbuilt in its national character and to have developed said democracy internally and without much blood shed. America was simply Europeans "childish" enough to reject that form of society. Socialist Democracy DOES belong to Europe. It did not come from America. but you have to consider that there is allot of indirect tax.
When you buy a good there is sales tax and there is also taxes that go into producing the good like transport, income tax, energy tax, and many many more.
and they all are included in the cost of the sale price.

Hannan's views are really popular in the US, much more so than in Europe. Also, he is incredibly articulate, which makes a welcome change from US politicians.
What confuses us here is why he isn't well-known and popular in the UK.

No one said it's a 90% tax. Exactly as was said, it will account for a 90% overall tax on earnings, that's true, that's how taxes add up. Daniel is on, because our own News stations love the state, mostly becasue of Ofcom and state ownership, it's fascist-level sick. The fact that bankers will avoid the tax is his point, so don't pretend to have watched the video.
