New Weezer is new Weezer, and The Rentals are The Rentals. Both are good... but neither are as good as Weezer was with Matt Sharp.
Oh, and if you listen to the music you can tell it's got Matt written all over it, and the lyrics are very much in Rivers' style. No way is it solely either of theirs.
Man it sucks that they couldn't get more than two albums out before parting ways.
@Tchekov006 according to rivers cuomo, weezer abandoned this type of sound because matt sharp "stole" it for his other band, the rentals. that's why black hole was never released.
This is a weezer song. It was written by Rivers Cuomo and a member of the Rentals, Rachel Haden made a guest appearance and sung it. This song was written right before the release of Pinkerton. It wasnt until years later that the Rentals covered it.
he's not. the rentals is Matt Sharp's band, the original bassist of weezer, he left after pinkerton to form the rentals and in my opinion weezer was never the same
Weezer was never the same because of the commercial failure of pinkerton. Rivers tried to write more personal songs and everyone disregarded it. Recently Weezer has been coming out with better stuff (i.e. the red album).
No doubt. Pinkerton was the greatest album Weezer has ever done, but like I said Rivers is somewhat of an odd shy guy and I think he got crushed after the failure. Critics are no judge of music, what other conclusion could one come up with when they say the Jonas Brothers are good?
I think you misunderstood. Pinkerton was not a commercial album, it was a commercial failure.. it is everything that is not-commercial. Now the album is slowly edging closer to reaching platinum, the album was ahead of its time. But since the album flopped, Rivers won't make personal songs and makes generic pop songs. Red Album has two good songs, the rest shows everything that is wrong with Weezer today. Now they are a commercial success.
I believe I said it was a commercial failure, not a commercial album. You could have saved yourself a lot of time reading what I wrote. Instead you just regurgitated everything I already said.
I agree, man. The same thing happened with Arrested Development. That was the cleverest sitcom that was ever written. But people are dumb and it got canceled.
who write this song?? I bet this written by river cuomo from weezer, cuz I can feel it the way his typical song..is this song appear on the rental's album?? pls tell me
Rivers wrote the song for his abandoned "Songs From The Black Hole" album, and the song was recorded for the album mentioned and was left off of Pinkerton when they put 4 of the SFTBH songs on it. However, This song was released with the release of the "The Good Life" single.
@glassfrehley This song is most definitely Rivers's. I can listen to this song as many times as I want and you can argue it all you want, but this song was written solely by Rivers for the abandoned Songs From The Black Hole rock opera (that was only written by Rivers.) Hell, on the Weezer DVD "Video Capture Device," there is a snippet of Weezer playing a full band rendition of the song with Rivers singing during the Pinkerton sessions.
Rivers. and it was intended for Songs From The Black Hole. It was supposed to be a parallel of his new rock star life. It was scrapped and instead we got Pinkerton. It has today not yet been released because 1. Geffen will not allow him to(unless he leaves them after A70 and 2. Sharp released ROTR which borrowed much sound from SFTBH and Rivers didnt want it to seem like he copied Matt.
The fact that the Rentals resurrected this on their tour, to me is really monumental. I own the good life ep and this is one of my favorite weezer songs.
well...who you calling bitch is new...and superfriend will be kinda new...and dude were finally landing is the other one...yeah..i cant wait...if only people of the world knew songs from the black hole..then weezer would be no joke...theyd stomp on the heads of their rivals..lol..that wasnt so funny
Nah...that's just because they had to switch instruments back going into Friends Of P. Better to keep the crowd pumped up than stop and switch (which they do many times during the show)
Any idea why they don't include Summer Girl in their set? They seemed to play a good majority of their songs and even a cover or two. Maybe because the girl who co-wrote it is no longer in the group?
as much as this song is amazing, and as much as i love the rentals, watching matt sharp prance around the stage in the end kinda ruined it for me lol.
If anyone's interested I have this on video from a concert one year ago on my page.
