New Weezer is new Weezer, and The Rentals are The Rentals. Both are good... but neither are as good as Weezer was with Matt Sharp.

Oh, and if you listen to the music you can tell it's got Matt written all over it, and the lyrics are very much in Rivers' style. No way is it solely either of theirs.

Man it sucks that they couldn't get more than two albums out before parting ways.

This is a weezer song. It was written by Rivers Cuomo and a member of the Rentals, Rachel Haden made a guest appearance and sung it. This song was written right before the release of Pinkerton. It wasnt until years later that the Rentals covered it.

he's not. the rentals is Matt Sharp's band, the original bassist of weezer, he left after pinkerton to form the rentals and in my opinion weezer was never the same

Weezer was never the same because of the commercial failure of pinkerton. Rivers tried to write more personal songs and everyone disregarded it. Recently Weezer has been coming out with better stuff (i.e. the red album).

I think you misunderstood. Pinkerton was not a commercial album, it was a commercial failure.. it is everything that is not-commercial. Now the album is slowly edging closer to reaching platinum, the album was ahead of its time. But since the album flopped, Rivers won't make personal songs and makes generic pop songs. Red Album has two good songs, the rest shows everything that is wrong with Weezer today. Now they are a commercial success.

Rivers wrote the song for his abandoned "Songs From The Black Hole" album, and the song was recorded for the album mentioned and was left off of Pinkerton when they put 4 of the SFTBH songs on it. However, This song was released with the release of the "The Good Life" single.

I can listen to this song as many times as I want and you can argue it all you want, but this song was written solely by Rivers for the abandoned Songs From The Black Hole rock opera (that was only written by Rivers.) Hell, on the Weezer DVD "Video Capture Device," there is a snippet of Weezer playing a full band rendition of the song with Rivers singing during the Pinkerton sessions.

Face it, Rivers wrote this song by himself.

Rivers. and it was intended for Songs From The Black Hole. It was supposed to be a parallel of his new rock star life. It was scrapped and instead we got Pinkerton. It has today not yet been released because 1. Geffen will not allow him to(unless he leaves them after A70 and 2. Sharp released ROTR which borrowed much sound from SFTBH and Rivers didnt want it to seem like he copied Matt.
