I loved this movie.but everybody I watced it with hated it because they were expecting Will Smith to come in with a grenade and sacrifice himself, saving them all...
me and my mother watched this, after she saw the end, she never wanted to watch this movie ever again. i cant believe the guy didn't know that they were close to being saved. poor old people, amanda, and kid :(
Meh, if that was the same thing as the tentacle-monster at the beginning, there would have been audible footsteps, and it could have just crushed the roof. For all we know, tentacles are common in their world.
Also gonna assume that it's filled with lighter-than-air gas bladders, because otherwise the square-cube law wouldn't look kindly upon it.
@carturd95 the guy knows how to work with great character actors. Character actors make a movie much better than a million dollar face with no talent.
I love how the Blonde and Old Dude from The Walking Dead are in the car and then ((SPOILER!!!!) when the tank and rescued people are driving past, you see the older woman who lost her daughter..and husband.. also from Walking Dead. =P It's like the casting crew for Walking Dead just looked at this movie and went "them."
I love as soon as he see's the creature, he comes to the conclusion of " yyyyeeeeaaaaa theirs no way in hell we can survive with that big muthafucka walkin around....we might as well kill ourselves "
the only reason I would say the cloverfield monster would win is because although this creature is very massive and i'm sure quite strong proportional to its size, the cloverfield monster appeared to be disproportionately strong and it even appeared invulnerable, no weapon or anything the army threw at it barely phased it, this monster although it could take a lot, im sure missiles and napalm bombs would bruise, tear, and burn this monster, cloverfield monster was invincible apparently
Just so you know, putting up a message that says "I do not own this video" is sort of the same as stealing the crown jewels, putting them on display, and holding up a sign that says, "I do not own these"
Ah, this clip was so beautiful... the haunting music, along with the glimpse of an impossibly massive, yet passive creature, really made this one of the best scenes.
me and my friend made a debate on what would win in a fight the mist monster vs the cloverfield monster we said that maby a teen cloverfield moster would win the baby eh 40 to 60
@henryzetabluewolf The mist monster would win..the movie made it smaller than it really is...it was meant to be so high you could look up in the air and only see its legs..So ima go for the mist monster
I love this movie and this scene but ppl get real there is no way the Great Thing could've killed Norm, the tentacles belong to another creature. Secondly this thing would squash Cloverfield(my other favorite) because it's over 250 feet. This song fitted perfectly with this scene too.
I freaking love it when they go all lovecraftian on us!! Im a sucker for every movie where they just go all out with the monsters. When will we see a movie creature big enough to be spotted from space? I would die of happiness
I loved the creature as depicted in the film - but it should have been bigger. In the novella, David is not certain how big it is, but he says it was large enough to make a blue whale look like a trout in comparison.
@temoo91 I suppose the monster doesn't attack them because they are in the car and it can't smell them (as it is explained in the book), but I can imagine it is the same kind of monster that attacks them in the supermarket for the first time (the tentacles are very suspicious...) xD So maybe it isn't so peaceful...
how in the world did the military kill it? at the end of the movie it looks like they have everything under control but how do they think they're going to kill it?
If it reached to the stratosphere it couldn't deny the law of physics and it would freeze and suffocate and die and fall over and cause evenmoreproblemsSHIT....just get drunk and wait to be eaten.
Is this the same creature whose tentacles dragged off the bag boy earlier? It makes sense cuz the guy said earlier "We don't even know what those tentacles were attached to..." Anyway I think it's the same creature.
@FlyingGold Yea I was thinking about that but remember that short earthquake before the whole tentacle scene? I don't remember if they explained what that was but I always thought it might be that gigantic creature laying down or something LOL
Impossible??? There were dinosaurs almost just as big and long, so it's not impossible that thing can be so big if it even came from a freaking other dimension!!!! LOVED THE SCENE!
@JiS01 No dinosaur on earth was bigger than this creature you put a long neck sauropod next to this and it looks like a little lizard maybe there were some longer in width but not in height this things body was way above the tree line
the mist is kind likfe Half Life story when miltary research open an other dimension that brigs creatures from an other world but scenes are so lovely
@TigreNoir007 Being that The Mist, as a book was the first part of a longer work "Dark Forces" by Stephen King was published in 1980... I'd say The Mist influenced Half Life.
@johntheechidna1 In the book, the creatures are guided only by their sense of smell. They are in the car, so the monsters can't detect their scent. Anyway, this scene should have been done just like in the book. That creature was so tall that its size almost wasted all the hope that was remaining among the survivors.
This is the closest anyone's come to capturing the Lovecraftian spirit on screen. The music fits the scene perfectly, a lament for the end of humanity.
I guess my insurance company will never believe a giant monster from another dimension shit on my car until this whole "Mist" thing is shown on the news.
Anyone who says such a creature couldn't be killed (unless it had regenerative capabilities like Godzilla) obviously doesn't know about the weapons our military has, and I'm not talking about nuclear weapons either. Disposing of the body before it stank up half the state would be more problematic than actually killing it.
The director completely botched this scene. 1000 percent. The whole idea in the book is that this creature is so tall that our planet can never exist as it once did. Whatever hope there was is completely gone. All is lost - we can never exist/coexist with something tall enough to be in the freaking stratosphere. It's not supposed to be a couple hundred ft, rather 100s, or 1000s, or infinite. It's suppose to be so tall you look up and only see legs - this is just Cloverfield.
@Eparabola but then how in the hell does that fit in with the explanation that the military opened a "door" to another dimension? what did the door do? just shit out a gigantic creature?
@Eparabola The director (Frank 'Shawshank' Darabont) explained this in an interview. He said the idea of a creature so tall you can only see its legs works well in the book, but it'd come across as silly on-screen. The audience would see a giant leg and laugh. The practical and philosophical implications of such a vast creature existing on earth would fly straight over the heads of most viewers. Besides, it's a great design, and I like how they connected it to the tentacles earlier in the film.
@Eparabola Hear, hear. Its body really shouldn't be visible. Still, I do remember thinking, "ahhhhh, good enough" while watching this scene. Its spooky. The music is moody. Its fine.
@Eparabola Well i got exactly that idea you comment from the book when i saw this scene. Literature and films are different, the director has a limited canvas to paint his imagery. He doesn´t reproduce exact proportions but he does instead a good use of music and slow motion with a common purpouse. I think the scene is beatifully made and does the job. Would have work the same scene with only legs on screen?
@Eparabola Yea, because you can totally achieve that in a film. You do realize that what you are talking about is pretty much impossible, even with today's technology, right? It's not "botched" if it's impossible to do it "Correctly".
@Eparabola but it worked for me, i was already thinking that there is no hope because its huge and its probably not the only one of those walking around, and maybe even one of the smaller ones.
@Eparabola cinematically it's better to see the entire creature. If you just saw a big huge wide limb in front of you, chances are you'd think it's a freaking tree, and not the leg of some giantic creature... I mean, I get the point and on paper sounds like a good idea but it doesn't work on the screen
The director completely botched this scene. 1000 percent. The whole idea in the book is that this creature is so tall that our planet can never exist as it once did. Whatever hope there was is completely gone. All is lost - we can never exist/coexist with something that's tall enough to be in the freaking stratosphere. It's not supposed to be a couple hundred ft, rather 100s, or 1000s, or infinite. It's suppose to be so tall you look up and only see legs - this is just Cloverfield.
I love the whole film but thought it was a bit silly that after 2 days normal people are about to kill a child and rather then help him save the soldier the other good guys held the main charicter back. However the ending is absolutly amazing and left me thinking about it for weeks.
Hmm i wonder if this is the creature that puts it's tenticles through the door at the start of the film. Though it would mean allot of bending over :P
It may have left on it's own, back to the parallel universe it came from when the mist faded. Since it didn't attack the car, it may have been the one peaceful creature in the film. One of those gentle beasts that can't help being the biggest and most frightening, or something like that.
@masterofrandom16 I respectfully disagree. I think that like the mutant spiders, it just couldn't smell them since they were in the vehicle. I get the idea that every creature that came out of the mist was predatory.
@masterofrandom16 that thing is NOT peaceful, its a Great Old One and They are not peaceful. Ry'leah must have risen for a lil bit, letting This One out.
I wouldn't mind dieing or being ripped apart by some monster, if I only got to catch one glimpse of that huge monster. Imagine such beings really existing. Life would become a whole lot more interesting. ;3

If you just saw a big huge wide limb in front of you, chances are you'd think it's a freaking tree, and not the leg of some giantic creature... I mean, I get the point and on paper sounds like a good idea but it doesn't work on the screen

NO!

I do adore how they just shrug off the 500 foot tall monster and just continue driving.

I love the whole film but thought it was a bit silly that after 2 days normal people are about to kill a child and rather then help him save the soldier the other good guys held the main charicter back. However the ending is absolutly amazing and left me thinking about it for weeks.

They need to send scar face on this over grown cock-a-roach

How cool would such a tall monster in a computer game -particularly ego shooter- be? :D

I wouldn't mind dieing or being ripped apart by some monster, if I only got to catch one glimpse of that huge monster. Imagine such beings really existing. Life would become a whole lot more interesting. ;3

One part of me is like, "That is utterly beautiful..." but another part of me goes, "God damn it, where's Master Chief when you need him?"
