  • Love this episode of Scrubs !

    Jordan : The witch

Turk (and janitor makes a reference with oil) : Tin man

    Eliott : Scarescrow

    JD : Dorothy

    Ossim Possim !!

  • Ted is Christopher Lloyds nephew!!!!!!!

  • Scrubs changed my way through life.

  • Comment removed

  • such a great ending to my day :D

  • This is the song I want sung at my wedding, by these guys, and by golly I will make it happen!

  • This is a great rendition of a classic song! Kudos!

  • the melody of this song sounds familiar, especially the beginning when they start wooing. if anyone can tell me where its from please tell me

  • @Gunzalo70 Somewhere over the Rainbow - Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole

  • @Gunzalo70 Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz, I think :)

  • 22 people never saw a rainbow

  • Love that Dr Cox references The Wizard of Oz at the end there by calling JD Dorothy, there. THERE.

  • scrubs is unlike any other medical dramas/soap operas. While it has the lightest tone, it is also the one that touches the most deeply.

  • I wish I could sing as well as Ted

  • please tell me theres a version of this that can be downloaded?

  • Its amazing all the Wizard of Oz references they have in this episode yet the first time I saw it I was completely oblivious. Now that's great writing.

  • I never noticed that JD was wearing red shoes. I can't remember. Is there a reason for that from this episode? Or is that just a little extra nod thrown in?

  • @choipnugget janitor sprayed his shoes red

  • @choipnugget JD's red shoes are of cause a reference to the wizard of oz, hence why Dr cox calls him dorothy. It happened at the begining of the episode, when the janitor is painting lines in the hospital, and paints JD's shoes red.

  • what episode is this from?

  • @spacko18 Season 5 Episode 7 ;)

  • they tried to make this look like it was in technicolor like the wizard of oz was.. that's why it's more colorful. this is my favorite version of this song ♥

  • @hsmhaleyj I didn't think of that (the technicolor thing) and I know! Ted is such an underrated singer. His versions of this and Hey Ya are just fantastic. Ted's probably the most underrated character in this show.

  • there is no way that i can like this enough

  • Sometimes we all just need to go over the rainbow

  • I don't like this show and yet i do. hmmm.

  • @nostalgicnineties Why do I post - I should read other comments before commenting it myself xD

  • @nostalgicnineties It's as in the movie The wizard of oz, because this episode is based on the movie/novel

  • the song is from iz you know

  • I actually never realised how much it was linked to The Wizard of Oz :O

Turk needs a heart, Elliot needs a brain, Carla needs courage, Dr Cox asks if "Dorothy" is "Going home" and there's a yellow line at the end, awesome :D

  • @YaMamsize You forgot his red boots.

  • Loved this episode, and this scene.

  • i love it <3

  • Dod anyone notice the poster next to JD aka dorothy at the very end? Lol

  • Anyone else notice dorothy at the end was also wearing red shoes???

  • I just love this ♥

  • Song is from Alice in wonderland, and Dr. Cox call him Dorothy at the end.

  • @10ur25 You do know that Dorothy is from the wizard of oz right?

  • @10ur25 lol, this song is from wizard of Oz.

  • scrubs ist einfach mega

  • They are clearly not an acapella group cause there's a ukulele :L

  • @misterdan28594 they're usually acapella

  • @misterdan28594 just like sgt. pepper's wasn't a rock album because there was an orchestra

  • Favorite versions of this song

    1. IZ (and my personal favorite song ever)

    2. Ted's version

    3. Original

  • they got a real band! search for The Blanks on spotify!

  • A fantastic version of a time defining song. Scrubs was - in fact - a life defining series for anyone in their late teens/20s, and this episode nailed every theme they ever tried to push to their audience. Scrubs, South Park, Family Guy, Simpsons, Friends & The Office ... all very different, but the most important programmes of a generation.

  • @na1582 You nailed it, dude. Seriously. My life would be incomplete without Scrubs, South Park, and the Simpsons (and Arrested Development and House and Mad Men, but those are more recent). Family Guy? I dunno, it started out well but very quickly became the most pretentious and preachy show in the history of television. FG doesn't do preaching well. Whenever Scrubs wants to send out a message, though, it hits you like a kitten landing on a pillow.

  • @na1582 how the hell is family guy important?

  • @ShevviBB I don't think it needs to be Life changing or even a story with a moral to be important, People just need something they really enjoy watching on TV, Family guy is important in that sense.

  • I like scrubs :), but Poland rule :P , I like Ted's Band and emotionally end's :D but POLAND RLS:D

  • LOL i love how much depth people have gone into to analyse connections between the wizard of oz and this episode. its youtube not advanced english people !

  • @k9DaAV perhaps but the writers of scrubs did a real good job

  • putting aside judy garland, the best version of the song is this. is there a longer version of it?

i guess i am putting aside judy garland out of respect.

  • 21 people didn't see the rainbow

  • 21 people doesn't meet the Wizard of Oz

  • HOW CAN PEOPLE DON'T LIKE THIS??!!!!

    FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU:@@@@@@@@@@@@

  • Dr. Cox tells the interns to "flee - now!" The wicked witch of the west told the monkeys to "fly - now!"

Dr. Cox tells Elliot she has a "straw colored scarecrow head" and says her answers are "falling from the sky."

Turk and the nurses "pop up" like the munchkins do.

Jordan is stuck in a hot room and seems to be "melting" like the witch does when she gets dowsed with water.

Turk is looking for a heart.

  • @theblingking321 Elliot is looking for a brain and Carla is looking for courage too. And the yellow line.

  • Dr. Kelso mentions that he played baseball in Altoona, PA. They have a community theatre that dates back to the early 1900's and has had productions of Wizard of Oz.

Next patient mentioned is Mr. Baum. The book "The Wizard of Oz" was written by L. Frank Baum.

The potential heart donor's name is Bolger. Ray Bolger played The Scarecrow.

The next patient is Mr. Langley. Noel Langley wrote the screenplay for the movie.

  • J.D. is listening to Toto.

Yellow line is for getting out of the hospital. This is not immediately needed information, but will symbolize the "Yellow Brick Road" later in the episode.

J.D. receives red shoes upon arriving.

Mr. Fleming is the first patient noted. Victor Fleming directed the original movie.

    Dr. Cox calls J.D. Dorothy.

Laverne's choir appears wearing yellow and singing a song, much like the munchkins did for Dorothy.

  • i have to say that this is one of my favorite episodes, and i think that any episode where ted's band appears is going to be a good one. "Someday i'll wish upon a star, wake up where the clouds are far behind...Meeee."

  • This is one of my favorite episodes. And the over the rainbow was such a nice little surprise at the end. And they sang it beautifully! I love the way they filmed everyone. And then to top it all of cox calls jd dorothy. Episode complete.

  • this is the best version of this song :)

  • @farmerboy345 sorry if I got your name wrong;) itis because janitor painted them red

  • @nostalgicnineties

the saturation was just "turned" up at the moment where J.D. says something like "a hospital can sometimes feel like a magical place".

at this moment you can see that the rest of the episode is more colourful to make it more "fairy tale like"

  • To anyone wondering....

    Ted's band...is real.

They are called " The Blank's " they have CD's, with ALL the song's they did on Scrubs, and some of there own.

They even performed near me one time.

  • Rest in Peace Big Iz, the music industry's a little darker and colder without you bigman.

  • One of my favourites.

  • Anyone else notice J.D.'s red shoes?

  • @farmerboy245 they were originaly white, but the legend that is the janitor sprayed them red :P LOL!

  • @joshgell hahaha

  • Here is the guy who first did this version of this song. his name was Israel Kamakawiwoʻole "the fat hawaiian"

    youtube com /watch?v=V1bFr2SWP1I

please rate up to give everyone this link.

  • who sings this cover?

  • @Rosty122 The Blank, the actual name of "Ted's" acapella group.

  • this is the best version of this song.

  • the blanks performed this at my uni on friday. there has never been or ever will be a better cover in my minds eye. nor have i seen such rapturous applause. if you ever have the opportunity to see them, take it up.

  • the most beautiful version ! Ted is one oh the best characters from Scrubs !

  • Actually his shoes are spray painted red.

  • what the fuck is jd wearing on his feet???

  • @bexter28 red shoes just like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz

  • Ted and the Janitor are the best thing about scrubs..

  • Is it possible that this episode is somehow more "colorful" than the others? I mean literally more colorful, like they used some other type of camera or so.

  • @nostalgicnineties yeah i think it was either shot with a different kind of camera or with a greater saturation of colour, the episode starts off normal but from about the middle of the episode as you've said, the episode becomes more "colourful", i think in an attempt to add a kinda fantasy feel to it cos the episodes a bit of a homage to the wizard of oz

  • @JoeJosh92

I checked it on wikipedia, they did indeed film it somehow differently.

  • @nostalgicnineties yer they did, they discuss it on the dvd commentary. Yes i watched scrubs with the commentary

  • @nostalgicnineties

Okay, now I have read everything about this special episode on wikipedia.

  • @nostalgicnineties i guess its because they are supposed to underline the "rainbow" ^^

  • @nostalgicnineties I think that was the point with all the Wizard of Oz imagery, and of course Somewhere Over the Rainbow being sung at the end.

  • @nostalgicnineties They saturated more (on purpose) to get more of a dreamy look

  • @nostalgicnineties They saturated it more (on purpose) to get more of a dreamy look

  • @nostalgicnineties

I thought I was the only one to notice that!!

  • @nostalgicnineties its to make it more cheerful and wizard of oz'ish

  • @nostalgicnineties I think about that every time I see this episode. It changes right about the middle of the episode.. There must be a reason (:

    But it's pretty :D

  • @Riiwii There is. The whole episode is a throwback to Wizard of Oz, that's why.

  • @knifewrenchowns Yeah I found out when I continued reading :) But thanks so much for answering anyway :D

I never saw Wizard of Oz, so I wouldn't know :/

  • @knifewrenchowns your name is awesome... knife wrench!!!! for kids

  • @nostalgicnineties i think so, i also believe they purposefully did that

  • @nostalgicnineties

    Yeah, the used more lighting.

and also if i remember right, this was a really sunny day around 12:00 - 3:00pm when they were filming, so they had the sun on there side for lighting as well.

  • @nostalgicnineties It would have been editing in post-production.

  • @nostalgicnineties yea the director wanted to do that for the song somewhere over the rainbow

  • @nostalgicnineties as far as i remember that episode was all "Wizard of Oz" themed, like the music, the Cox's nickname for JD (Dorothy, like the girl in the novel), Toto Cutugno in JD's ipod (Toto - like the dog in the novel), the stripes on the floor (like those yellow, red and green-brick roads) and so on, and so on.

  • @nostalgicnineties i am watching it right now and u r correct the colors become "more" after the scene where turk ellito carla and JD follow the yellow line :) i checked it over and over :)

  • @nostalgicnineties its just a higher saturation filter, but if not a filter editing will do it. you can do it on i movie on apple for funnzies

  • @nostalgicnineties it was done on purpose to fit the episdoe

  • @nostalgicnineties yes its more colourful than other episodes. This was done deliberately to give a wizard of oz effect.

  • @nostalgicnineties You're correct. :) the reason they made it more colourful was to make the references to The Wizard of Oz more obvious. Example: JD has bright red shoes, therefore he is Dorothy. Dr. Cox also calls him Dorothy for the entire episode. Carla is looking for 'courage', therefore she is the Lion. etc. etc.

  • @nostalgicnineties Thats just YouTube haha

  • @MaleBosszz

No, it was there. They used that kind of filming/lighting to emulate the style of the Wizard of Oz.

  • @nostalgicnineties yea i agree, and the sit com episode was so much brighter

  • @nostalgicnineties

You know in this episode draws colorful lines all over the hospital, that looks alot like the rainbow. So the whole episodes meaning are about the colours.

  • @nostalgicnineties yes it got color corrected ; )

  • @nostalgicnineties I think it's part that, part it being sunset.

  • All you season 9 haters.

Im so tired of people saying " IM NO WATCH WITH NO ZAK BRAFFZ " or " ITS SUX " , when you havent even watched a single episode all the way through.

Bill Lawrence said Scrubs season 9 , or " Scrubs : Med School " , is a SPINOFF. and it wasnt going to be the show we know and loved over the past 8 years.

I will say something that Chris Turk Once said.

" Things are going to be different, but different doesnt always mean bad, it just means different.

    Give season 9 shot.

  • @blizzy00 In this case, season 9 was bad... Sry i have to break it to you.

  • really great episode and great version of the song :) i love scrubs

  • Scrubs is incredibly awesome

Scrubs is so funny and yet emotionally, just a wonderful series, i love Scrubs (Season 1-8) and especially Ted´s Band =)

    awesome, more awesome, SCRUBS

Thumbs up, if you agree that Scrubs is the best series ever !

  • best show ever

  • I love this episode of Scrubs, because it's so clever how it's so relevent to the wizard of oz :) like when J.D. is talking about i'll theyre problems about how Eliot needed brains, Carla needed curage, and Turk needed a heart (lirrally), and how J.D. needs to fallow the yellow line (or the 'yellow brick road') *Clap, Clap* GOD I LOVE SCRUBS XD

  • Purty, I Love this episode.

  • i love scrubs i love this song i love the world love the love^^

  • Scrub's>Friends

  • season 5, episode 7 'my way home' love this epesode :)

  • Kelso sounds like Yoda...

  • SEASON 5, EPISODE 7 "MY WAY HOME"

  • i miss the old scrubs

  • they should have really made a cd of all of ted's bands songs;)

  • @sebe27 they actually do have a cd out and there are quite a few songs from the show on it

  • This is the best version I've ever heard.

  • This is a cover of a cover, just look up Israel Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

    Absolutely amazing song.

  • BELLISSIMO!

  • im watching this right now!

  • Timeless lessons from the "Wizard". Happy Birthday #71!!

  • man ted sings lovely

  • this version is fanastic , they sing it fanastically

  • @Timsalt3100 Its fantastic buddy

  • Beautiful, this is one of my favourite Scrubs episodes. Cleverly written, wonderfully shot and ending with such a powerful cover.

  • The colour saturation is too high. Otherwise, great clip.

  • @jwbartle It's like that in the actual episode. Supposed to simulate how colorful The Wizard of Oz was.

  • This would make a great last episode.

  • kianavar true!!! :)

  • best cover ever :look:

  • i've only just realised the heart, brains and courage thing. daym, how many times have i watched this?!

  • @harrietsarah You for got Dr. Cox's line "Going home, Dorothy?" near the end.

  • hbjn

  • Scrubs is amazing because its like your next family you feel all warm inside when you watch it

  • ted rock and his band they should make a soundtrack cd from scrubs with them only

  • @FilipsPL they have an album

  • I wish there was a full version of this song...Ted's band is awesome!

  • I liked the group acapella here.

Love Scrubs! Can get serious but yet still have laughs in it.

  • nice shot from 0:29

i wonder how they know when to start the act like the hug at 0:57

  • Watching this makes me wonder what it'd be like a doctor.

I realize that this is a TV show, but I can't help but think the feeling of helping/saving people is comparable to this clip. You know...?

  • The Over the Rainbow TV series just ended...if ted and his band entered, they would have won hands down.

  • rofl the best version of the song :X

  • A great way to end a great episode.

  • Scrubs, undeniably has one of the best soundtracks ever.

  • I wish this show didn't turn into the ridiculous crap it is now it used to be amazing

  • @amazinamr what do u mean ?

  • @furion111111 I thought the last 2 seasons were painful to watch compared to the first 5 or 6 but i still luv Scrubs!

  • ted actually has a really good voice

  • Oh now i get it , The song is from the movie Wizard of Oz and Dr Cox calls JD Dorothy in the end !

  • @NuclearMovies And he was wearin red shoes (dorothy's red slippers), todd was going on about "lions, tigers, and bears, oh my," the janitor painted a yellow brick road, jordan was melting like the witch :D

  • @NuclearMovies Not to mention that JD (Dorothy) is listening to Toto on his iPod. And, Elliot is the scarecrow, looking for brains, Turk is the tin man, looking for a heart, and Carla is the lion, looking for courage. The "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" reference. I think Dr. Cox says something about Elliot's "straw covered head". There are a million references in the episode. Sadly, no flying monkeys though.

  • @josh2ee Holy Crap... that's amazing, i never noticed the hints XD then again, i've never seen the movie... but that's awesome... to think this show actually holds symbolism... ;-;

  • @josh2ee well obviously lol

  • @dancechick4 Yes, I know it's obvious, I was responding to somebody else who hasn't seen the Wizard of Oz :)

  • @josh2ee And of course JD being nicknamed Dorothy

  • TED RULES

  • When 4 patients of dr cox died I almost cried. What was that episode ?

  • @pie0eater My Lunch

  • this is from wizard of oz... eliot needs the brain, carla need courage, turk needs a heart and jd needs to go home.

  • @Hoyle1995

Originally its by 'Big IZ', that movie just made it famous in the U.S.

  • That's one of these moments that makes Scrubs to such an awesome series. For me there is no other one more entertaining and more beautiful to watch.

  • beautiful voice

     awesome song

  • the only song they had as touching as this was at the end of season 8, when they played "The Book Of Love" by Peter Gabriel

  • @bhz10 what about when they play the fray when dr cox kill accidentaly 4 patients. or when dr cox has to go to ben's funeral when they play joshua radin?

  • Sam Lloyd is actually in a real acapella band
