Thank you. We got some problems with oil line of our new TG engine since it stops when we start to pupm oil seriously. We added a regulator yesterday night to solve it, this evening we will do a third engine run, if it work good we'll post new video ASAP
looks cool! but you have got to do something about that cc flames in the back with no afterburner is not what you want! make the cc a bit longer and try some diffrent hole patterns in the flametube, those flames will make the turbine blades fail, you don't want a TOT of above 8~900C
Done, we've ready a second prototype with a brand new Borg Warner turbocharger ready to go after my last University exam (13/07/2007). I'll post a video for our new setup asap with all modding you wrote about
Creo que el utilizar un turbocompresor de un vehículo corriente no asegura que la refrigeración de la turbina sea suficiente. Seguramente el problema está en que no hay una refrigeración adecuada tanto de la turbina como de la cámara de combustión.
it's a gas turbine project, I study engineering so it has always been my dream to build up my own one and there it is. This video shows a backyard gas-turbine project (a first attempt with some errors). Now I'm doing a second one, similar to the first but safer, good looking and with lots of gauges to get measures for didactical purpose (we calculate this simple GT cycle with EES-Engineering Equation SOlver, then we'll take a look at the gauges to see if they show same results).
Those engines can be used as demo, didactical, engine (for go karts), or to set up a very very small but effective cogenerative system to get heat and electrical power at same time.
Cara... muito massa.. tbm estou montando uma... soh gostaria que vc me desse umas dicas de como faço a ignicao e o principio de funcionamento... teria como?
For startup I use a leaf blower until turbine reaches a sufficient speed. Ending flames are caused by oil realeased by old oil gaskets on turbine. Thanks for your comment
Not a bad bit of gear, my brother has been declaring that he wants to build a turbine in various different ways for some time now, It would be nice to get a little bit of information on how you built it.
I'll be glad to do my best to help you, I can send you by e-mail a pdf file with some pictures of combustion chamber construction and some useful programs
Hi, if you mean the vertical tube on the right it's a little "oil tank" that help us to keep an open oil circuit avoiding oil expansion problems, also helps us to control oil level, however we'll add a cooler on the oil circuit asap
yep, you're right. That's because we used a conventional stove tube. The reason why it's that if ignition retard and propane will get the spark some seconds later, stove tube will explode avoiding major damages to other stainless steel parts. Other than that it's less dangerous to work this way.. just think about it as a "fuse" for excessive pressure
if you mean the "inflated" housing it's the compressor housing (inside there's compressor wheel), then air pass through the Al tube you see behind, then enter in combustion chamber (stainless steel cilinder) then enter in turbine housing and expand
excess of fuel, it was first engine run, now we setted it at a lower fuel flow with no flame since flames may damage turbine, now we're setting an after burner to keep flames outside (when needed) without damaging the turbine wheel
awesome engine setup. i have 3 BorgWarner turbos that put out 1100hp and 44psi. if you are interested in one let me know. other than that can you email me what you guys used to build the complete setup? thanks alot!
lavoro davvero molto interesante!!! abitate anche vicino a me ;) (io sono in prov di Treviso)

hey do you have a page, were you explain how you make it?
espido 4 years ago
not for now, however if you pm me your e-mail I'll reply you with a technical pdf I did for my University in attachment.
You can find interesting info on DIY gas turbine group (Yahoo) too

ok but what i mean is after you have started the engine a inflatable pipe got inflated

what is that your using as a starter?
saddogmobile 5 years ago
I'm using a big leaf blower (2.4Kw), it's pretty cheap, then I modded nozzle to perfectly fit compressor intake without losing air mass
