  • What the hell is Claire doing now? I have to say that this is just one of my guilty pleasures from the 80s. Has anyone got an mp3 of this? If she was watches this back she'll be definitely embarrassed! I had it on vinyl but unfortunately I overplayed it and was scratched to buggery. Drop me a line and i'll send you my e-mail address. Thanks

  • @addicted2tha80s She is a teacher. She was my teacher about 7 years ago with her brother Stephen, whose scarf she is wearing in this.

  • @Vlad6344 Does anyone take the mick out of her by singing the song to her? Your so lucky to have had her in your teacher. Are you from Manchester by the way? Sorry for asking.

P.S. Is her brother older or younger than her and is he a teacher too?

  • Claire Usher is 35 in 2011.

  • so much better than today's shite music

  • I bet she is a horney 40 1/2 year old today. She has the signs even at 8 1/2 [no I am not Gary Glitter]

  • wouldnt it be fun if she was the lead singer in some punkband called Spermsuckers From Hell today!

  • wow iv been thinking of this song forever.god i feel old..im only 36.i was younger then.lol.xxxxxxxxxxx

  • WONDERED if there is the B side to this record it was called BIG SISTER!! I loved this record as I was 8 when it came out and had many fun times with my BIG SISTER doing shows for mum and dad LOL!! If anyone can post BIG SISTER would be AMAZING :)

  • better years then, people had respect in them days, britain and europe is dead now with all this violent ethnic music

  • She can't be 25! This was about 1986, wasn't it? She was about 10 then, so she must be 30 odd now.

  • @StanPomeray This came out when I was about nine and I'm 35. I remember because my grandma brought me the record for helping me paint her living room, even though I got more paint on myself lol. I loved this song as a kid, I wonder what happened to her.

  • @thesacredyew

Hi there, Just wondered if you remember the B side of this record, it was called BIG SISTER!! would love to find that again :)

  • @katfish112003 Oh yes I remember but unfortently I don't have the record anymore.

  • i cant believe its not butter and my cousin lenny at the age of 42 thinks this is better than led zeppelin

  • If she was 9 when she sang this then it would make her 34 now

  • @Themalster heeeey dont knowc her age dude that means i could legally do her now lol

  • she was nine when she sang this song now she is 25

  • What are you people watching it for??? If it's so awful why did you search it?

  • @btmecj was not that bad

  • I bet she is fit now she is 33?

  • ...is she now legal?

  • It's a nice bit of tongue-in-cheek from the team that brought us Matchstalk Men and Matchstalk Cats and Dogs. According to Wikipedia she married a bloke she met working on Riverdance and now works as an Irish dance teacher. Bet she cringes when this keeps getting dragged out though.

  • @barttheanorak awwww bless her

  • child exploitation at its most vile

  • @bigcherry99 Actually she went for the Saturday Superstore talent contest with that song and won. No-one exploited her, it was her choice. She's now all growed up and married to a bloke she met working on Riverdance.

  • @barttheanorak how can a 9 year old make a 'choice' like this?

    .

    clare's parents are unbelievably irresponsible

  • @barttheanorak don't be ridiculous. you can't make your own choices at 8 years old

    .

any parent who lets their 8 yr old decide if they want to go on national TV or not, is an abusive parent

  • Ah, the innocence of the 80s... WAS SHITE.

  • I remember singing this at a school concert - what was I thinking!! Even remember who I was 'singing it to' lol

  • ok

  • I heard that Gary Glitter invited them to tour with him

  • I remember this so well. Started singing it randomly yesterday so had to search for it. So glad it is on here. Thankyou!!

  • loved this song x

  • aww used 2 sing this 2 my grandad...good memories :)

  • hi claire how u doning it horrble beeing in love at 8 and half how sad whre we lol

  • This is mine and my sisters song when we was little lol

  • that ones was one of them days that top of the pops mimed all the songs.

  • Ms. Claire Easter???!!!!!

  • i too was eight and a half when this came out. even then it made me want to go on a murderous rampage.

  • Oh the memories of this

  • Dear God! Still can't believe we came third to this! I hear she's a teacher now - me too! Who'd have thought we had anything in common!!!

  • Im 35 now and ive just introduced my 8 year old to this song...i used to love it..haha x

  • im 35 now and ive just introduced my 8 year old daughter to this song...lol...i used to love it..haha x

  • im 32 and was 8 and 1/ when this came out .. so there that answer... so bloody funny forgot all about this till a mate put it on Face Book..... Thanks for the laughs.......

  • Wonder how old Claire is now and what she's doing?

  • I remember this! My sister and i were in the final of Saturday Superstore that year singing "Me and Little Andy"....lol the things my mum got us to do! I LOVE THIS!

  • Timeless !

  • this little girl probably inspired most kids today to sing.fab

  • A song to give Gary Glitter stretchmarks on his palms

  • She was my teacher! and her brother Steve too, he's also there

  • i think its class an im a under 18

  • gazza1190 - this was released in 1986 I think. There was an inerview, Wogan I think, at the time where she let slip that she was actually now 9 years old. The horror!

  • Oh My God!!!! I used to love this - seem to remember it being on Going Live or similar on a saturday morning. Classic. I wonder what happened to her.

  • Remember this from bein a kid, classic.

  • @tafferatu it was from saturday superstore search for a superstar , i think

  • Well said djjoff. I fully agree with those X-Factor "criminals". This is just a fun song. I find it interesting to look at what Youtube has grouped with it. St Winifred's School Choir I can understand, but Smokie with "Living Next Door To Alice"?

  • Well said djjoff.

I remember when it came out, there was some news feature where they went and spoke to Claire at her home and we saw her family. They were all really artistic and keen to nurture the talent of their kids but not in a pushy showbizz way - in a positive and encouraging manner. She went on to perform in Riverdance and should have nothing to be ashamed of in the start of her musical career.

  • first time i have seen this and heard. it is brill. well done claire. does anyone know what year was this.

as i was born in 1981.

  • @gazza1190 I remember also seeing this at the time and it was 1986.

  • What I hate about this is the snotty attitude of the TOTP 'notes'. Why is it a crime against music and decency? It was an innocent bit of fun for kids. Since when was that a crime? I think the Black Eyes Peas, Tinie Tempah and Simon Cowell are responsible for far more crimes against music, but there we are. Such is the UK.

  • Love it!!!!! A big shout out to kym smith of Halifax!!!!!!

  • finger up me nose playing with me toes fit it in song where you can might play this to me eldest hheheheeh oh he will cringe lol

  • finger up me nose playing with me toes

  • she's wearing ladies' shoes about several sizes bigger

  • LOL @ the dude's statement at the end, damn... theyre really sorry but they still showed the video lol. poor claire

  • Michael Jackson liked this number

  • @n136ha Nah....the singer's a girl so wouldn't have been Jacko's thing. Gary Glitter probably got blisters on his palms though....

  • @TomthatiscalledTom Oh Jesus do you really have to say things like that?! it is bad enough even thinking about that pedo scum PAUL GADD! Bastard shouldnt even use the Glitter name now.

  • She's not realli singing is she cuz near the end she's not singing. Lol luv tis song thow :)(

  • @Lovelyluckylollypop Hi think it was somethink to do with performing rights and kids on stage stopped them singing live

  • OMG this is just..... oh words fail me! But just love the fact they even pushed in a key change 3/4 of the way through!!

  • God, what with all the mullets and shite fashion, I can't even stand to look at my old school photos from 1986. If I knew that a video existed of me performing on Top of the Pops in 1986 for an audience of millions, it would be a living nightmare.

  • My wife is the one in the orange jumper in the background( skipping at the beginning) haha go for it andrea!!

  • I'd love to hear Claire's comments about this song.

  • whats happened to Clare she must be all grown up maybe is married with kids of her own.

  • Comment removed

  • spooky thing was that Stephen was actually her BROTHER!!

  • i still own this classic i used to play this at our youthclub disco`s

  • lol at the adults in the crowd clapping along :D what a bizarre image ! I bet most of were thinking, why the hell are we being made to do this :S

  • Top of Gary Glitter's play list

  • Claire got a job dancing in Riverdance then went to teaching Irish dance with her husband.

  • Oh my god!!! I can't believe I actually bought the 7"! Shame on me!!! Its so dreadful!! Ok I was only about 5 at the time though!

  • I am cringing for her. Hahahaha. Lmao. Wonder what she is doing now?

  • It's actually worse being in love when you're 47. Especially when the person in question won't come round to your place "because mum says I've got to revise for my mock exams". Grrr!

  • It's orrible being shoved on TOTP and forced to sing a crap song when you're eight and half.

  • I remember this so much lol

  • the child has talent

  • claire what are doing now?

    comment here on u tube

  • We watched this at school with our tutor!

  • The poor kid is dying on stage. Look how many times she rolls her eyes :P Embarrassed much?

  • i luv this songg!

  • I wonder what happened to Claire. I remember watching this on Saturday Superstore.

  • It wasn't that bad... I didn't have to cut off my ears.....relax!.....

  • My friend is 1 of Claires friends in the back ground(the 1 in the blue dungerees) n we all torment her relentlessly wen we're drunk, she loves us 4 it.... NOT! lol!

She's 32 now and yes natalie cassady did sing Chick chick chick chick chicken!

    Oh the memories :)

  • It wasn't natalie cassidy it was natalie casey

  • We lived in Peterborough when our daughter was 8 and this song came out! FYI, she's now 32. So the "38" age is b it exagerated. Anyway, we thought it was a cute and "catchy" little tune.

Also, we are Americans. We enjoyed our time there, but alas, it has been so long now!

  • I feel silly listening to this song. But I don't care.

  • Did anyone know that Stephen who Claire is singing about is actually ...her brother???!!!

  • Very theatrically based

  • I give it a 2*

  • OMG I used to love this song.

  • if i remember right this was something to do with saturday superstore witth this winning some competiton on there or something like that

  • christ!!! what an era for music. this was round the same time as grange hill cast and spitting image were in the charts. but compared to this grange hill and spitting image's hits were not that bad

  • It was piss poor. Don't forget we had Chas n' Dave, Su Pollard, Anita Dobson ..... feckin' awful.

  • She is probably singing a slighty different version now.

'It's orrible being in love when your 38 and a half'

  • dont be so "orrible" the kids loved it - lol

  • What an atrocity. And funded by license fee payers.

More to the point, how has the 80's come back into fashion when this is what we had to put up with and the grandma song and shuddupayaface (if your Italian, find it and watch it, you will lol at your portrayal).

  • omg i used to listen to this song when i was little and i broke the record cos i listened to it that much lol

  • great song, i was 8 & had her picture on my wall lol

  • this song is just so bad

  • nearly as good as Russ Abbots Atmosphere

  • brilliant song really takes me back

  • Aww. How cute lol

  • 80s cheese never got so cheesy!

  • i remember, is that a fact?

  • Make me want to puke on the spot this terrible child being woman nonsense. The Victorian got it right i read this. she should be selling matches or sweeping chimney pot.

  • I would of been 6 when this song was out and i loved it, i used to sing it and dance up and down the street. I wonder what Claires doing now?!

  • i was ACTUALLY 81/2 whan this came out and me and friends walkin round the playground as bold as brass, singin this .......... oh happy times x x x xthanku

  • Would love to see some of the other acts that appeared on "Superstore" - I remember so many of them. I live in the US now and wonder if any of them, even the ones that didn't win, went on to success. There was a lot of very talented youngsters. I intend to search Youtube for the ones whose names I remember, and any of you can help me out :)

  • Saturday Superstore Search for a Superstar....well before Britain'sGot talent!!

  • Its orrible bein in love when your eight an a halffffffffff WHAT A BAD SONG

  • a bit controversial considering there r grown men in the audience

  • the kids must be grown up with their own. i bet their kids laugh at them.

  • lol

  • This song and video was very popular in the Cleveland region of north-east England.

  • the grown men musn't been that fussed then

  • I remember this so well!

Wasnt it the winner of a kids TV programme song contest? Something like The Wide Awake Club or Saturday Superstore?

  • does anyone know where i can download this song? the cheese factor is great :)

  • the good old 80's lol.. miss the 80's so much

  • I can't believe this is on here. Thanks WiggyStHelensUK for posting this.

  • Does anyone have an mp3 of this?

  • I used to have this single!

  • errr-- errm --- well...

  • Gary Glitter's favourite song

  • how are we expected to take this comment then ???

  • paedo!!!!

  • You obviously didnt read the comment correctly.

  • Yeah its orrible being in love at 8 and half.Sex is a lot more painful for one.

    LOL

  • You know that from personal experience then?

  • at least its good to see back then kids not wearing hoodies , smoking ,drinking and telling everyone who dares to walk past them to fuck off!!!

  • well, we are suffering the dont smack your kids generation.

  • @danthemanmusic17

    It's a real shame. I

Think current young Brits will be

    Like Americans

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

    Funny though

  • This was quite good compared to some of the stuff which was produced during the 80's..lol

  • Holy SH*T! I never thought I'd see this again!

Think I was about 13-14 when this was out. You'd never get owt like this these days!

  • I was 7 when this came out.

8 and a half seemed mature to me ha ha ha

  • anyone remember the band who came third on that competition?

well, i'll tell you, it was the radcliffe rollers. the radcliffe school steel band.

    pass dem dutchie x

  • Sorry - I got the year a bit wrong!

These were the days of rampant Thatcherism or so I recall. Maybe I was too busy to notice!

  • Thanks for a reminder of more innocent times - the World was a much better place in 1978 !

I doubt if anything similar would get a release these days - and justifyably so - a sad fact indeed!

I'm always bemused at the 'grim' way the 1970's are portrayed on TV - none of which is true ! They were simply the happiest times of my life.

Younger programme makers may well have historical archives at their disposal - but they weren't actually there!

  • omg i remember this i was in school when this came out what a song this was used to watch saturday superstore in the morning as this is where this record came from they won with that on that very programme 1986 the year.

  • Good memories

  • wats her second name

  • Usher

  • Usher

  • It's Gary Glitter's backing group!

  • She's singing about him!

  • i was 9 and a half and in love with my first love called mandy lol cheeesy or what?

  • Oh my god, how the memories of my childhood have just flashed before my eyes I'm welling up!!

    Dooooooowop Doowop!!!

I only wish we could get the B side "big sister"

  • Cutecheryl321, I also saw this clip on "Most Annoying Songs Ever" and thought OMG it's the first time I've heard this since it was originally released. I was only a kid and what a blast from the past :) Had to look it up.... LOL

  • you wouldnt think it but she grew up to be anne widdecombe.

  • bless this has just been on TV on "Most annoying pop songs ever"

it was more a dig at "Hansen" mmmmm bop though....
