  • Wow, this brought back some memories. This guy rules!

  • Why a boomerang does whatever it does... boomerangs. LOL!

  • 5:30

  • Our physics teacher is an exact replica of this bloke..

  • I **LOVED** that man and his show!

  • [bernoulli's principal will tell you]..WHY A BOOMERANG.....uhhh whatever it does.. boomerangs!"

  • 12 people like Archimedes' Principle

  • LOL, this is great. I remember seeing this guy on PBS when I was a little kid and thinking that he seemed a cranky, old man. I could hardly understand anything he was presenting because I was so young. But I continued to watch because once in awhile I would pick up on something interesting. My continued interest in science in adulthood must be partly due to him. Thank-you Professor Miller.

  • This makes Physics class good.

  • That is fantastic!!!!!

  • and I tell you that's terrific! R.I.P Julius!

  • 120 of them... ALL GENIUSES!

  • A physicist and mathematician who could also spell? How did he not conquer the world?

  • I feel such a dumbarse when I look at this guy and his experiments. Thanks for posting. Very exciting!

  • Absolute legend! The books that go with this series written by the man himself are super informative and very very funny.

  • Dear lord, this man is about the only teacher I'll WILLINGLY listen to!

  • i remember watching tapes of this show in science class and on pbs, back when pbs was worth watching

  • I use to love watching him. What a nut, but he was so fun to watch. he REALLY was passionate about what he did, and that was always good to see. Thanks for your post...it's really great!!!

  • As a child this was one of my favorites shows, it's a shame that kids today can't experience things like this anymore, it would definitely produce some much needed great minds.

  • I love how excited he always was in his videos! You could tell he loved what he was teaching!!!

  • Man i can't believe that 10 people dont like this video.

Their brains are probably the size of homers brain.

Thumbs up if u can c this.

  • Why do we like him???

Because he is a little kid in a scientists body!!!

  • @kerrileewolf We love him because he is a little kid within a scientist's mind :-) Bravo!

  • i enjoyed this...excellent teacher...but I think his voice sounds something like the Wizard...from the Wizard of Oz..."pay no attention to the man behind the curtain"

    Anyone else hear the similarity?

  • YES! I was trying so hard to remember what the name of this show was! I loved this guy so much!

  • 10 people dont understand any Physics

  • OMG!!! Bernoulli's principle must be why when you turn on the shower the shower curtain caves inward!!!@__@

  • @aachelabelaaron No, that happens even when the water doesn't touch the curtain. Water heats the air which rises and sucks air in the bottom. Try it with a cold shower (you don't have to be in there) or with the curtain not fully closed allowing air in through the side.

  • @johnclawed It's not necessary for the water to touch the curtain--the fact that the water is going that fast in that direction actually starts a breeze by shoving the air in the same direction, and other air gets dragged along.

I didn't run the experiment you suggested, though, so, not sure. But I think that what @aachelabelaaron said is probably right. And what you're saying could also be right--with all the stuff going on with the water, vapor pressure, heat, there could be multiple things

  • This made my DAY every time we watched it in school. Jesus, I would walk away with a smile on my face and a will to live after watching this man.

  • Who says we don't want flutter in our wings ?

  • I loved his show, we need more teachers like him.

  • Remember this guy from 12th grade physics? LOL Precious genious!!!

"And Im going to do it again!! Why? Because I LIKE it!!" LOL

...'And I tell you thats terrific!!! " LMFAO...AGAIN!

  • and what will the atmosphere do? the atmosphERE WILL COLLAPSE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He's having what I'm going to call a 'physicsgasm'.

  • seriously.... this guy is enjoying himself way too much

  • Simon Bar Sinister!!!!! I've been trying to remember who the cartoon mad scientist was!!!! Thank you and thanks for posting all of these videos, I loved watching this guy as a kid. Ubergeeks unite!!!

  • Sweet!! Wish this was on TV nowadays..

  • I remember this guy!!! I have tapes of him - I taped him cos I didn't think anyone would believe me if I told them about him!

He reminded me of Simon Bar Sinister from the Underdog cartoons. This is what you'd get if Underdog's major nemesis became a PBS physics teacher.

  • And this is why the oil kept spewing out in the gulf? Was the water creating the outside pressure over the narrow opening and squeezing the oil out?

  • i love this man

  • I love how he gets so exited by something so innocent :)) I TELL YOU THATS TERRIFIC !

  • this man was good

  • Comment removed

  • I used to watch this guy on PBS (?). Entertaining if not impressively informative.

If you close your eyes, you can hear the wizard from The Wizard of Oz....

  • Boy this guy takes me back to grade school! Blast from the past! Very nice to see him again! :^))

"How do you do, ladies and gentlemen , and boys and girls I am Julius Sumner Miller, and physics is my business." ... "Why Is It So?"

  • someone in my family shared it on they're facebook page and said "He's my favorite". This guy's awesome!!!!!

  • This guy is awesome!

  • @djahriman agreed

  • "God: Hidden Science" - Google it!

  • there it is!

  • "And I tell you that's TERRIFIC"

    I love this guy.

  • "If I like it, I'm gonna do it twice." That's going on a t-shirt!ROTFL!!!!!

  • This guy was awesome! I am so glad I found this video.

  • why? BECAUSE I LIKE IT! lolrofllmfao!!!!

  • LOL THE PART ABOUT THE ATOMIZer is the funniest thing ever... this guy is like comedy+science, perfecT..

  • sounds like a deadly weapon

  • thanks

    it help me alot

although i have learned this in my class

this is not the way my teacher taught me

    so THANKS

  • I'd always thought he sounded like a Speak-N-Spell on these tapes :D

  • I have no logic or reason in my lil brain, yet thanks to the Dr. I have a basic understanding of physics...advanced really. I know it works

  • OMG I remember watching this guy do adds for cadbury chocolate.... Atmospheric preasure does the work LOL

  • I was scared of this music, but I still watched him. I was four.

  • I like Bill Nye, certainly, and Beekman was amusing in his own "Saturday morning" kind of way, and respect MUST be paid to the great Mr. Wizard... but not one of them can come close to the pure genuine enthusiasm that Julius Sumner Miller displays. The greatest scientific mind in all of televised history!

  • I always thought Miller was more for the college kids. Bill Nye was for high school kids. Mr. Wizard was for junior high school crowd and Beekman was for elementary school kids.

  • @dgwaters Surely you jest. I enjoyed all of them long before I ever set foot in any school.

  • hahahahah this guy is the best!!!

  • What's the other family he mentions in the video?

  • Bach

  • I love him on the Hillarious House Of Freightenstein. Classic Television

  • once more! why? because i like it! hahaha

  • its so tarific im going to do it again

  • Although an obviously intelligent man, Professor Miller scares me.

  • Good news, everyone! I've just invented the Death Clock!

  • nice!

  • "Remember, a requirement of our work together is Imagination".

    What an absolute legend.

  • What does it mean?

  • I remember watching this video 2 years ago, bernoulli's principle still fascinates me.

  • Used to love watching his show a kid. Imagine him in the kitchen, and all the potential experiments at his disposal.

    ''Why is it so''

  • Haha, i remember this. This guy is crrazzzzyyyy. xD Bless his freeking crackpot heart. :)

  • I watched this guy in high school physics. Brilliant man.

  • Fun, precise, illustrative. Great video.

  • this explains the floor of a F1 car, and the freaking 2009 diffuser which causes more constriction.

  • he made learning fun unlike Professors today who want to ram politics down our young persons throats and dont even teach the lessons anymore. RIP Professor, I enjoyed your teachings

  • i know eh?

like the one place where politics is not needed?

his slow pace in voice, his explanations, and i guess his down-to-earthness is what makes this guy so great, wish he were still here : (

  • And I tell you THAT'S TERRIFIC!! Why? BECAUSE I LIKE IT!!

  • Hell yes.

  • this guy is fucking hilarious

  • That's amazing. It goes against what common sense tells us. Doesn't he just love it. I know I did.

  • Who wouldn't LOVE this man! I wish I had remembered him when I was in physics...

  • bernoulli reynolds everyday, 3rd year aero student. bernoulli invented the math needed for flight, the engineers just used it.

  • julius

  • thanks for a great video Awesome!!!!!!!!

  • I LOVED Fridays in Science class when I was in junior high. That was the day we'd watch Dr. Miller. I was always a good student, and very interested in Science. But Dr. Miller showed what everything we talked about actually meant. He was always so excited about the subjects, and that got me excited too. I'm thrilled to find Dr. Miller's experiments here on Youtube. When my daughter is older, we'll watch these together.

  • I'm currently in an AP Physics course, and my high school teacher shows these whenever they apply to our subject. Great stuff!

  • I dont feel "old" but Miller was one of my physics profs back in the 50s, before he was ever on TV. I am amazed to see him again here as well as seeing some of the blogs that demean him. This man was a genius & great college prof, a student of Einstein. In gen. physics class, his section on atomic sci. was outstanding, he took us to the cyclotron at UCLA, he collaborated with Cal-Tech scientists like Gell-mann & even touched on transmutation equations in our basic class. A remarkable genius

  • please someone explain to me why, when the funnel is in normal position with the ball up, does the ball not rise, I understand it when its upside down; less pressure, moves up.

But when the ball is on top of the funnel, all air simply escapes through the little side? because I hear a sucking noise, but why?

  • To gustavoadolfo44: physics is not my business but I think the principle is the same regardless of the orientation of the funnel...high velocity air creates lower-than-atmospheric pressure at the narrow end of the funnel so the air at the wide end of the funnel (at atmospheric pressure) pushes the ball against the narrow end.

  • Toucan Sam!!!! That's what this dude reminds me of

  • This guy is so out of his mind, I love him.

  • I watched re-runs of Demonstrations in Physics with Dr. Miller on PBS while I was in high school in the late 80s. I went into engineering and through undergrad and grad school there was not one prof who was as good a teacher, entertaining or personable as Dr. Miller! Having a dry and boring personality must be a prerequisite for those in Physics, Math and Engineering. This rule doesn't just hold for academia, but industry too!

Dr. Miller rocks! Thanks for posting!

  • Best professor ever! The ending is the best hahaha.

  • we used to watch him all the time in 8th grade.

hes better than like all my science teachers combind.

plus i love how he opens every show with

"Im Julius Sumner Miller...and physics is my business"

  • This is also how tornados get so destructive, blowing out windows, etc.

  • If only teachers in universities these days had his enthusiasm. They don't give 2 fucks about you until you are a graduate student...

  • It's definitely obvious he is passionate about his subject. I have had physic teachers who teach the same lessons as last year, give out homework, and one project for US to figure out what would happen and why. So I agree, I have such a great interest in Physics and Mathematics, but unforunately the professor who cared the most was from Economics...the rest is history.

  • Gotta love Dr. J

  • hahaha i love watching him at our school

  • Amazing how non intuitive science can be.

  • he is THE MAN

  • Watch it now!

My teacher loves this guy. He says that Bill Nye is crap compared to Julius. lol.

  • Your teacher is a wise man.

  • I love this guy !!!

  • PLEASE DONT READ THIS. YOU WILL GET KISSED ON THE NEAREST POSSIBLE FRIDAY BY THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE. TOMORROW WILL BE THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE. • hair cut plz!!! XD

  • This guy rocks! ! !

  • "thats fantastiC"

  • HAHAHA 5:52 "...INDEED!"

who talks like that? seriously! Im going to use "indeed" more like miller.

  • I love how exited he gets!

  • I used to watch this guy on Public TV in Gastonia NC back in the 80's. I remember one demonstration of his where he plunged his hand into molten lead.

  • I love physics! I also like eccentric people, so long as they ain't violent.

Combine "hard" subjects like physics and math with an enthusiastic, eccentric instructor, and you['ve] got fun learning!

  • Great Scott!

That's all this guy needed to say.

I wish he had been my physics teacher. It would have been a pleasure.

  • Bernoulli effect proves cold fusion!

    check it out my video

    9. Cold fusion. Kuopio

  • What a wonderful character.

  • amazing :)

  • When the bullet leaves the gun is not the atmosphere closing in behind it? I think so.

  • "Im going to do this one more time! Why???Because i like it!!!

  • why a bird can soar, why a boomerang...er... whatever it does, boomerang !

genius. check out 'man with plank' video somewhere on utube.

  • The old guy rocked.. RIP

  • What a nut ball Hes funny

  • I can't believe ol' Julius is here on youtube. It really brings back a lot of memories about junior high science class. The man is just excited to be alive and spreading the 'gospel' of science in his videos!

  • My twin daughters are into Bill Nye. I told them about watching this guy on WQED Pittsburgh when I was in the fifth grade. Just as wondeful now as back then. Glad to see him again.

  • Dr. Miller is the best! I owe my own interest in science and physics to this wonderful man. I only wish the children of today had such a role model. Bless you Dr. Miller.

  • the man

  • i love this

  • Oh my gosh!!!!..when I searched for this I thought it was just wishful thinking, but no..thank you logindoss..great memories from 10th grade in high school!!

  • Really a great teacher this man is. If someone like this great man had taughted me physics in my youth,I would live now in different way.

  • Teehee... That guy is sick (in the good way).

  • This guy's my hero. He taught me more physics by the age of six on Hillarious House of Frightenstein than I learnt in all of highschool! lol I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it

  • He was my favorite part of that show. It's still shown on Space channel here in Canada and I watch just to see his segments.

  • A tip of the hat to a fellow Canuck! Harvey Walllllbanger!

  • I love this guy's enthusiasm! He seems like he's having a ball. I used to watch this in the 80s on PBS. He definitely has a "mad scientist" vibe to him. One can almost imagine him in a castle laboratory raising the dead with electricity and screaming : "I'TS ALIVE!!!!! MY CREATION!!!! ALIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!!!!!

  • this guy is serious business

  • if this guy was my physics prof i wouldnt look at the clock so often

  • I love how it's not edited. It feels like an actual live demonstration.

"Why a boomerang uhhh... whatever it does. Boomerang."

    Yessss.

  • Great programming move putting Professor Miller's physics lessons on at 445 AM! I'm sure they really sunk in then. Wouldn't want the public to learn anything, would we?

  • Mythbusters has to have at least been influenced by this man and the Curiosity Show et al.

  • so easy to understand great teacher!

  • lol my science teacher makes us watch these videos

  • why?....your teacher can't teach it him/herself?

  • no, he can but he likes Julius

  • AHAHA!!! My science teacher worships this guy, and I have to admit he's grown on me. He clearly loves what he does so much.

  • So sad I haven't had such a passioned man as a physics teacher! Mine were so boring I had to learn everything in books or in my parent's garage or kitchen.

  • "physics is my business" =D

  • the man

  • I finally found it!!! Thanks for posting this vid, I've been looking all over for it.

  • Please clone him for every school in the world, and the world will be heaven..

  • I like his giant pad of paper.

  • seseame street + physics

  • I fuckin love this dude.

  • I miss the days when you could actually learn something from TV. Professor Miller, Dan Posin and others put useful knowledge into people's heads, unlike today's pap peddlers. They called it in the early 60s: TV has become a vast wasteland.

  • he had brilliant minds in the past... Einstein, Faraday, Volta, Dirac... now we have Britney Spears, Tom Cuise and Justin Timberlake...

  • We actually watch this guy in my Physics class XD

  • He's brilliant! They don't make them like that any more!

  • Amazing guy. Wish he was my grandpa or something.

  • Nice video. If you have a chance, look at my students showing some interesting physics demonstrations to the song "charge me up" on my site.

    Happy New Year !!!

  • Great way to learn basic physics.

  • Man, this takes me back to my grade school days.

  • this dude is smart but its fucking knot's!

  • Excellent!

  • haha i like his teaching style..

he could really get the students to pay attention and enjoy while learning =P

  • I can remember watching this and many other similar programs on the educational films from the University of Michigan as a child in the early 1970's that used to run in 'graveyard' time at many stations to fulfill their FCC mandate for such programming at the time. WSYR TV in Syracuse, NY used to run these right at sign-on, 6am on Saturday mornings before the cartoons. I bet there's a lot of those old University of Michigan programs still around, they were hoky but they were wonderful.

  • Five stars just for the voice alone.

  • "why A Boomerang...Does whatever it does!"

  • This is terriic!

    wtf is wrong w/ him!

    he looks obsessed

  • yeah he was about to do a 4th can i was like what? ok we go it mother fucker

  • Is he drunk?

  • Not drunk at all. He was thrilled to teach, to demonstrate in easily understood forms, just how physics work. And so he was a man who was truly happy when he was working.

  • He is very passionate about what he does.

  • "let's do it a second time. Why? Because I like it!" lol, he's freakin crazy!
