He gave a speech that was basically about our country being "under attack". Several minutes later our entire class room watched the second plane hit live on the TV. Several girls in the class started crying pretty loudly after that as we believed we were really under attack. Scary, surreal day.

That documentary the French brothers made was very moving and intense. It was supposed to be about a rookie firefighter's first few months on the job and it ended up being about the attacks. Howard Stern reports live on his radio show that something has happened to one of the Towers. He states that it was clearly a terrorist attack. This was mentioned within the first five minutes after the first plane hit. The name Osama Bin Laden came up within a half hour of the first impact. Sometime around 10:00 Howard made a remark to the effect that those buildings won't stay standing.

I agree with some of the comments here. Their initial reactions were rather pathetic and seemed to displayed an almost complete lack of concern with what had just happened. That said, I think most of their initial reactions were probably due to them just not realizing and appreciating the full gravity of the situation before them since they clearly become much more serious and concerned about it as time goes on (specifically after the second plane hits).

I live in L.A. and Howard's show was how I heard about the whole tragedy. 9-11 was my last day of vacation and I got home the night before. I will never forget that morning & the show's coverage
How predictable: some people are complaining about the levity that exists BEFORE they knew the whole of what was actually happening. Remember, even at the end of this 10 minute clip, the biggest horrors were still yet to happen.

That documentary the French brothers made was very moving and intense. It was supposed to be about a rookie firefighter's first few months on the job and it ended up being about the attacks. The two brothers were sparated for hours and each was wondering if the other was alive. ..so when they were reunited....oye. ...tears.

Howard Stern reports live on his radio show that something has happened to one of the Towers. He states that it was clearly a terrorist attack. This was mentioned within the first five minutes after the first plane hit. The name Osama Bin Laden came up within a half hour of the first impact. Sometime around 10:00 Howard made a remark to the effect that those buildings won't stay standing.

I agree with some of the comments here. Their initial reactions were rather pathetic and seemed to displayed an almost complete lack of concern with what had just happened. That said, I think most of their initial reactions were probably due to them just not realizing and appreciating the full gravity of the situation before them since they clearly become much more serious and concerned about it as time goes on (specifically after the second plane hits).

But when the first plane hit people didn't automatically think it was a terrorist attack until after the second tower was hit. When the first tower was hit, people just thought it was a bad accident.

From hindsight, yes, Rickrolled8024, it appears that they aren't taking this too seriously at first, but nobody I knew was taking it too seriously until after the 2nd plane crashed. At first, most people thought it was a random plane crash, not an attack.
You can hear the seriousness in their voices change over once they get confirmation that the 2nd tower was hit.
