  • Worst move ever. You could spot all the poker tells on chan from miles away. That and there was a straight possibility on the table.

Can't believe this guy won 8 bracelets

  • @ati151185 hate much?

  • and Seidel was drawing dead on the turn, drawing live on the flop.

  • Was lucky enough to play a few hands against Chan, the guy is awesome

  • This is real? Terrible move on river!

  • Eric maybe the best right now

  • @popselias He has made more money than anyone in turny play.

  • Eric is my cousin even though I never met him...

  • Johnnys english was better back then than now? Wtf..

  • in Rounders

  • Seidel is twice as tall when they stand up, lol!

  • Donk!

  • even seidel is subject to a donk move

  • Heeeeeeerrrreeees Jhonny..

  • Seidel calls the 40 *dealer about to grab chips* wait and he raises 50! Good old ruling.

Anyone knows if the shove was an overbet? Poker sure has evolved.

  • @Kapser1 Firsty, I dont know how much they had in the stack, but by the amount of chips (cant really see the colour), he could've raised like 200K- 300K (Value bet)

  • This scene's on the movie Rounders, one of the best poker movies ever, watch it

  • the Chinese guy beat the weird white dude and won a lot of plastic coins.

  • @elkwyre those plastic coins can be swapped at the cashier for a lot of very real coins

  • seidel is one tall fucker. that or chan is short

  • @ehlu15 bit of both

  • johnny's English was better in 1988 lol

  • Yeah yeah Seidel what a loser. Did anyone mention he's picked up over $5 mil in 2011? Didn't think so.

  • lol that guy Eric is such a microsoft whitetrash. And wearing that hat like he's on vacation with his fat fastfoodmom on a museum. It's epic how he gets rickrolld by that chingchong too.

  • rounders

  • freakin old school.breathtaking play from chan :)

  • Big Bird

  • Johnny Chan's career tournament winnings = $8,500,000

    Erik Seidel's career tournament winnings = $14,600,000

Therefore, Erik Seidel > Johnny Chan

  • so weird! johnny chan spoke better english years ago!

  • You'll be running for your life when you see Seiborg!

  • A hand so good that it made its way into the movie Rounders.

  • why shove ther river w 1 pr?

  • @888edward888

For value. His image was of a bluff monkey he expected to get called by a lot of worse one pair hands.

  • @rodoidify ok ty

  • @888edward888 I think Seidel was trying to make it look like HE was bluffing. If he'd only bet 30,000, it would look exactly like he had a pair of queens and was betting for value, and Chan wouldn't have called with a marginal hand. Seidel was trapped because Chan obviously had the nuts, but if Chan had Ace high, he might have called the all in, thinking Seidel had missed a straight with king high or something.

  • This scene is featured in the movie Rounders, I suggest you all go see it if you like poker.

  • why would you go all in in a headsup with the top pair and a 7 kicker? the only calls u get are from AQ or higher......he should have checked or made a small bet and when chan raised him realize that his pair of Qs (especially with the 7 kicker) cant be enough

  • Read "Reverse-reverse-reverse-reverse-psychology" by Johnny Chan, Scribners' Sons, New York, NY, 1981, pp. 2451-2457.

  • no. it's not "OVERACTING." Acting like you have nothing is reverse-psychology. but this is reverse-reverse-psychology. seidel knows if chan overacts, than he could possibly be pretending to overact to show strength when he has NOTHING.

chan is overacting, seidel knows it could be a fake overacting. i.e. chan acting like he has nothing when he in fact DOES have nothing. so chan COULD have nothing and STILL act like he has nothing. it's reverse-reverse-psychology and reverse-reverse-reverse psych

  • was that 50K raise a string bet?

  • isnt that a string bet eric made on the flop????? guess they hadnt made that rule yet back in the 80's

  • Johnny Chan is fantastic

  • Johnny fucking Chan!!!!

  • is Eric monstrously tall or is Johnny just really short?

  • The most idiotic river bet i've ever seen. He's only getting called if hes beat.

  • @damnedcarrot

Dude, that's poker 101. Bluffing the river to get bigger hands to fold.

  • @billgoldbergmania

lol yeah but you dont get damnedcarrots point

look at the board. what the hell is seidel reppin. hes repping nothing rofl. the only hand that will call him are hands that got him beat rofl

  • Weak is strong. Strong is weak.

  • Johnny Chan The Best Player Of Texas Holde'm !!!

  • Can someone tell me why seidel put all in there? If seidel is here, he can tell too.

But really Chan is really a good actor, if i were there, i'd put all in too and wait for the seven or Q.

    Good work, Chan!

  • @ironmaidenrulez Good actor? Chan's over-acting was so obv he'd fail any casting call for a B or D rate movie. Seidel's problem is he wasn't watching Chan, he was watching cards. So he bluffed off his stack.

  • @BPMSmith Actually you are rite. There was a movie i watched before i write that comment, rounders maybe, i think i've been influenced of it. Now i watched again and nothin i see for bein actor from Chan ;) People changes. lol.

  • give him an oscar

  • Seidel seems Ibrahimovic

  • *chan looks away*

"oh look at that look of the defending champ".

gets me everytime! well played johnny!

  • owned

  • What the hell was Seidel thinking.

  • he had top pair and didn't realize that while he was playing the cards, johnny chan, as any real poker pro would do, played the man.

  • @YouCanCallMeAl1022 easy to do that wen u have the nuts bro

  • @eddycadub well he knew he'd win the hand, but he knew well enough to check it down to the river and not raise him out of position. There wasn't even a check raise on this hand!

  • @YouCanCallMeAl1022 what u said doesnt really make sense cos chan was in poisition, seidel check raised him on the flop, and he flats, then they both check the turn, and seidel shoves the river for value. no doubt chan played his hand well.

  • @eddycadub good point--chan was the one in position. Well in that case chan knew that he could call it the whole way given that seidel would raise it the whole way.

  • @YouCanCallMeAl1022 sure its easy when you flop the goods

  • It's easy to say that when you aren't in his seat. Chan played it patiently and had the nuts, I'm sure top pros like Ivey and Antonius would also get suckered in the similar situation.

  • Not particularly...any over exaggerated gesture like that would probably make me more suspicious than comfortable!

  • How sick is that?!

This is one sport that money can't buy. No coach, no manager. No free agent contracts. Nothing to do with age or weight; just one on one survival of the fittest--lurking for that one twist of fate. Johnny is king of the jungle.

  • Lol you do know it actually takes quite a bit of skill to play in the leagues like this, right? :D

  • Came so close the next year to 3 in a row too!! Except that little geek Hellmuth won it instead...

And i don't think their was any need for Seidel to go all in on the river their for his whole tournament life with Top pair, shit kicker...but it's easy to say that when we know the whole cards i guess!

  • okay so chans on the button flops a straight seidel flops top pair tough situation once you bet big on the flop as seidel does cuz he has to keep firing

  • This hand can create a wrong impression that it took a lot of skill to win this..I mean, in HU, it's almost a cold deck.

Not to take anything away from Chan, but poker has evolved so much from 80s..

  • What happen to Chan after been the perfect player?? you most love this hand.. but now he is just a "good" player..

  • 1:24 A true champ

  • puto jackie chan k el mate damon se lo come! faime caso a min! ni KGB ni Gusano!

  • nice hand !

  • sick trap sick trap

  • don't you have to say "call" first before you flip over your hand. Otherwise they could assume you're folding.

  • No as long as you dont put your cards past the action line or bet line then you are fine. in the WSOP they can make you sit out a hand for exposing your hand but with sidel all in it dident matter. Let me tell you how knowing the rules can help you. i was playing live and it showdown. i was beat he turned over his cards and threw them in the middle. it one card touched the muck i turned over the loser and before the post was pushed the i called for the floor.

  • Let me tell you how knowing the rules can help you. i was playing live and it showdown. i was beat he turned over his cards and threw them in the middle. it one card touched the muck i turned over the loser and before the post was pushed i told the dealer to stop and i called for the floor. i said hey this guy threw his cards in the muck. the floor said dead hand. i took the 400 pot with the loser. racked my chips and got the hell outta there.

  • you know that's terrible poker etiquette right? you may save your ass in a tourney, but it's bad sportmanship and just plain rude towards your fellow player.

  • Yes its terrible poke etiquette. but its about making money anyway possible in with in the rules. I dont care what people think about me. I only want their money

  • It depends, in cash games you can do pretty much anything as long as no one minds. In tournaments however it really depends on the rules and how lenient the tournament directors are. I was playing a tournament the other day and someone did something like this and the director called the hand mucked even though the dude was pondering whether he should call or not.

  • Pure discipline from Chan. Legendary

  • J 9 IS TJ CLOUTIER'S HAND

  • Amazing "Hollywood" by Chan to trap Seidel!!

  • y isnt the J9 call the chan???

  • man... control... now that ain't luck at all, johnny beat that guy in every way worst he could be beat

  • look at that fuck.

  • I don't like how your description says "Erik-poor-Seidel"

It makes him sound like a freakin' amateur. He's one of the best players around...not freakin' Moneymaker.

  • you right, aIso it's a finaIe game as aII we know so he's not poor of course. but we re taIkin about onIy this hands, and there s a scene in the movie; the rounders , that s how peopIe caII him there whiIe watching this game.

  • You river shove to get someone off a hand like top pair (see 2003), not when you have top pair, because anyone with better than that will be calling your river shove.

  • wow awesome

  • Such an awful river shove from Seidel ... great player though

  • johhnny effing chan the master

  • how many entries was there?

  • what an impresive play, the poker will never be as it used to be.

  • Johnny Chan is the man!!! The only other living person on his level is Doyle. And this is before most of us even know what hold'em is.

  • Oh, and LOL at the size difference of these two... It looks like Harry and Marv from Home Alone.

  • LOL

  • LMFAO good one.

  • johnny chan the master just about sums it up

  • Johnny Chan, Erik Seidel, Allen Cunningham, Phil Ivey, and Daniel Negreanu... 5 BEST. All in all, this is the best final 2 in WSOP main event history. FUCK Hellmuth, he's good, but not as good as the mentioned 5, IMO.

  • haha, give credit where it's due. Hellmuth acts like a prick and a whiny bitch during poker when things don't go according to the way he expected. But Hellmuth has most bracelets and defeated Chan legitimately.

  • Not saying Hellmuth's not a good player (obviously he must be to win all those bracelets) ... but look at how many events he's played in to win his 11 bracelets. Chan has 10, and he's probably played 1/5 as many events.

And I point this out b/c I think Hellmuth is a whiny bitch ... lol

  • Yes, Hellmuth is a great tournament player however hes a HORRIBLE cash money/ ring game player. Chan/Ungar/Brunson and Moss are the best there ever was in poker and nobody can beat those four in the long run.

  • in the Iong run.; Negreanu is one of the unbeatabIe men either.

  • my actual favorite player... that guy can read hands like no one...

  • Don't forget about Ivey. He's probably the best all around player there is. Better than Negreanu I'd think, and even Negreanu has said so on several occasions.

  • @tashih

I completely agree with you. Eventually they'll have to change Negreanu's name from "Kid Poker" to "Kid Perfect" for playing perfect poker the majority of the time.

  • @tashih so is Antonius

  • moss wasn't

  • @TheDrewCareyShow

hard to beat ungar's s performance but ivey would do great if he would play more tournaments.

  • Marvelous...Johnny Chan rules

  • Also, apart from the fact that you mistook obvious admiration for insult, why would you automatically assume racism? And then you call Seidel a "white faggot"? What the fuck is wrong with you. Sounds like your the racist.

  • Seidel wasn't bluffing, he had a pair of queens with no overcards, no possibility that Chan had a flush and only 3 cards in a possible straight. I'm not sure on the exact numbers but the probability of his pair being the best hand was around 90%. In fact the probability of getting a straight on the flop is only around 0.4%. It was a lucky hand and Chan played it perfectly.

  • Yes but is that a value bet? Do you really hope for a worst kicker than a 7 to call for his tournament life in the WSOP? Or do you hope for a better kicker to fold?

  • wasnt that a string bet by Seidel?

  • now thats was poker, today its a farce

  • you guys are fucking idiots holy shit. When you say johnny fucking chan" its a way of emphasising the individual, its a modern way of showing how important or good someone is, its like michael fucking jordan. you idiots who think its an insult get off your comuter and ur fucking monitor tan and go talk to people in the modern fucking world.

  • You are so extremely stupid it's unbelievable.

  • Apparently you don't know the use of "fuck" in modern english. Johnny fucking Chan is just a way of stressing the importance of the person.

    "Yo this guy's pretty good."

"THIS GUY??? IT'S JOHNNY FUCKING CHAN."

And watch out what you call me punk.

  • wow, you need to get updated on the language culture!

  • fuck has 2 means:

1-when you say "johnny fucking chan" it s a way of showing how good someone is.

2-now get the "fuck" out of here!

  • fuck my ass

  • you should be Lloyd in Entourage. hahaha shut the fuck up Lloyd.

  • MAESTRO!!! Viva el Texas Hold'em

  • magic hand and play from chan , played his position great and owned seidel the whole way.

hope i can be that good one day

  • this is probably the most well known hand in the history of poker, to be honest. and its great if you watch rounders with commentary by ferguson, moneymaker, chan and hellmuth. they talk about how this is one of the best played hands ever, mainly because chan knew how seidel was playing (i saw the whole final table online, he is crazy fast and aggressive) brilliant hand, and play by chan.

  • grande

  • Malefico Johnny Chan...

  • The perfect example of acting weak in posistion of strength, Classic hand, great play from Chan, The master!!!!

  • I still don't fully understand the all-in move by Seidel. Johnny was acting weak so surely on that premise, going all-in on top pair was a bad play. If Johnny really was weak - there was no way he could call. If Johnny was strong - Eric had lost and was out.

Surely if Eric thought Johnny was weak - checking and getting him to "bluff" was the correct play.

  • lol i love how chan talks

  • ranking's today WSOP earnings: erik seidel=7, johnny chan=37... lol

  • but what about lifetime cash earnings.. u still got to give johnny some credit for 10 bracelets as well

  • how is 37th funny? that is pretty successful

  • it's funny considering johnny chan who is such a great poker player and has won 10 bracelets and is only 37th in lifetime winnings. If a person with no bracelets were to win this years WSOP main event they would have over twice the amount of money won by johnny with just one bracelet.

  • You also have to take into account just how many guys he had a piece of. One year he had half the winnings of both the 1st AND second place finishers at the WSOP.

  • johnny chan is one of the best poker player that i have seen in my life..

  • Just an incredible player.

  • The look on seidels face, oh wow

  • Johnny owned him by showing exactly how you trap an aggressive player. But Johnny was overacting and if Seidel would've watched his face instead of the cards he'd have avoided a bustout.

  • Well played.

  • First Comment!! whoo! johhny chan is the ish man! lol
