Medication is not a cure for seizures and it can't prevent death. More people die every year from seizures than breast cancer, it's a sad fact. @iampotts02 Not every person who has seizures takes meds. There are a lot of terrible side effects to seizure meds, I personally have experienced them. Some people try a special diet instead of meds. Who knows what their reasoning was for not using meds. No matter how much meds or what kind I took it didn't help decrease my seizures. Finally I had to have surgery and even then not everyone has that option. Jett may have had uncontrollable seizures, we don't know.

A child who has autism is not suffering. I have a 15 yr. old who was diagnosed as having high functioning autism. They may look lost at times but they are so aware of what is going on. Crowds are a problem, loud noises etc. This is not a poor soul but a pure soul. These children have so much love and are so intelligent. It's not a disease, its a child that expresses differently, comprehends differently, takes longer to explain things, reacts differently.

I think it´s obvious that Jett was a low function autist. I´m not specialist but wonder how fine he dev. with that condition. I believe Jett was on the spectrum. What 16-year-old is going to hold his Dad's hand even in a crowd of photographers. If you notice, even the daughter doesn't hold her mom's hand the whole time. I feel so sorry for the Travoltas for their loss. They seem like good parents who were doing their utmost for their son even if it's not what someone else might do. Autism is not a disease. It's a neurological condition. There are many ways to treat this without medication.

A child who has autism is not suffering. I have a 15 yr. old who was diagnosed as having high functioning autism. They may look lost at times but they are so aware of what is going on. Crowds are a problem, loud noises etc. This is not a poor soul but a pure soul. These children have so much love and are so intelligent. It's not a disease, its a child that expresses differently, comprehends differently, takes longer to explain things, reacts differently.

Perhaps John and Kelly and family were tired of the burden so they decided NOT to give Jett his meds... If for personal reasons or relgious reasons, does it really matter. They, like Dumbledore, who felt put upon for having to take care of a "non-perfect" individual in a perfect life... they felt stress.... Perhaps it was accidental, perhaps not... The question is: is that his nature or did he profit from parental strong love? The answer gives clues for all autists. It´s true: as other autists of his type he seemingly also lost some functions-in youth he even communic. more by eyes and view. But his behaviour shows that he still was rather reactive (as autist!)

Everybody here assumes that he was autistic, but not every child of 16 that is helped like that is autistic, he could have some sort of brain damage or whatever. I think it´s obvious that Jett was a low function autist. I´m not specialist but wonder how fine he dev. with that condition. The clue for me is that he really adapted in some "emotional-stuff"- and he is focussing and watching. He still was an autist - but his case gave me a clue in that even severe autists can adapt in some more human sense. This boy is some sort of communicating with eyes and attention and is ~present to a degree that impresses me.

He shows great signs (of resp.) for an - probably - low funct. autist. The Travolta´s showed great character in the relation to their son (problem beeing public star-they could have given him away but cared intensely). They then could manage things eaysier than av.+they have money...but anyway: the special thing is the huge love bond that had strong effects

Spend some time with an autistic kid who throws tantrums, is unruly, never speaks audible words, craps his pants and strews it down the hall, has to have "help" in bathing himself, & is unable to use a fork & spoon & see how long you want to raise a kid like that. My Mom's friend has a grandson like this. It's a nightmare, but the parents (out of guilt maybe) refuse to put him in a group home. He's worse than a two-year old but he's 21. Their marriage has suffered greatly. No one deserves it.

I believe that the MMR vaccine as a cause for Autism is debatable. That might be one way, but the majority of people I know who have a kid with this were BORN with it. No Mitsy, the ones who had it at birth are usually C Section babies who had an ischemic injury that affected brain development but it didn't occur in development in the womb. They were perfectly healthy throughout gestation, so you cannot detect it through genetic testing. It is not a genetic disease. I attend medical lectures on the causes of autism that don't reach main stream media.

I don't believe in late-term abortions. I believe in genetic testing and amnio tests which would tell the parents that they would have a retarded child if they continued the pregnancy.
