A true native american should be chosen for this not some privilaged white boy (im white btw) Anyways IMO this is the SECOND coolest pregame tradition in college sports the first being the eagle flight over Jordan-Hare
@budboy1988 It used to be that way. Any man playing the part of Osceola had to be at least half Seminole. It had to change because the number of Native American students dropped. It's sad that a Seminole doesn't do it anymore, but hopefully one day a tribe member will be in the saddle again.
i'm half native.... no idea what tribe and i go to Alabama, but if i went to Florida State i'd have been trying to find out any way i could be the Cheif by senior year.
I generally agree with you on this, though I think the Seminoles actually support this practice. That's only what I think though, I'm not as well versed with the FSU Seminoles because I know that my alma mater was having some issues with their Chief some years ago.
@antisocialist87 i went to fsu. we have the seminole nation's full support. they make sure osceola's costume is correct. also, they get a percentage of all the licensing fees. plus, fsu provides scholarships for students from the seminole nation. so it is a win-win deal.
@jneil2007 The Seminole Tribe of Florida fully supports the use of chief Osceola and Renegade. The tradition is open to all students to apply, and there are members of the Seminole tribe of Florida constantly enrolled at FSU.
hmm too bad the oklahoma branch of the seminole nation as well as sevreal in the florida band are protesting it and ofcourse its some random yonaig asshole in makeup and the fans doing that stupid tomahawk chop and the seminoles never had tomahawks until the time they were being exterminataed and removed by the whites, hmm very intresting for a so called institution of higher learning
Both the Seminole Tribes of Florida and Oklahoma have given FSU permission to use the image of Chief Osceola. Infact, they LOVE the fact that FSU uses the image.

How about asking someone from the tribe to do it?Florida was set up as a prison for the displaced indian tribes or viewed as a swampy wasteland to dump them in?
this video makes me feel good to be a decendant of chief osceola

It would be better if a Seminole Indian did this tradition.
