  • BG: The games that had better graphics than NWN... oh Bioware, you amaze me.

  • Apparently Bhaal has a running nose.

  • nostalgia or not, since BG 2 all other RPG does not even came close to BG series, there were good rpg games here and there but still BG and BG 2 (and torment ofc.) are the best rpg games of all times if u ask me, those games just had a soul, not corrupted by the company greed for money. Those games were made by players for players, now games are made as a product for the croud, nothing more. I'm not saying making money is bad, but there has to be a line somewhere

  • @60groszy well bg2 SoA was made as a requiem of one of the developers. that´s the heart in that game. that game was made for a friend and ToB ended the epic storyline they made to make their friend who died while working at SoA proud. read the manual of BG and i think it´s this heart which makes this game once in all times. seriously i´d love to see how it would looj with modern technics but maybe it wouldn´t be BG anymore for that game i sacrifice my eyes at free will^^

  • GO FOR THE EYES BOO

  • BG 2 is great but I think some of you are wearing nostalgia goggles

  • @Halberd96 no just different opinions i started playing it again for about the 20th time last month and it was epic still and still he best

  • Ahh... We are all heroes; you and Boo and I. Hamsters and rangers everywhere, rejoice!

  • DOOM AWAITS THEE

  • @itsmu YOU SHALL SUFFER.

  • 1 person is Melissan.

  • what's best about this track besides its obvious epicness is that it speaks of the finality of the situation...and what is at stake.

  • What amazes me is that a game this good is, actually, just an expansions. ToB is an expansion that is just as good as any stand-alone game.

  • Probably my most replayed RPG of all time. The game's pacing is *perfect* Just pitch perfect. The exact correct proportion of side quest - main quest. It does a perfect job of giving you an open world to explore without sacrificing any urgency.

Seriously, I'm shocked I don't see more games get the formula this perfect. BG2 is simply the perfect, quintessential CRPG.

(It also helps that BG2 has an INTENSE modding community. You can get completely lost in infinity mods.)

  • This soundtrack was epic when I finally fought Melissan, at like 2 in the morning and I was half-asleep, this was a fucking wake up call saying YOU`RE ALMOST FINISHED WITH THE BEST GAME EVER!!!!

    LOVE LIVE MINSC AND BOO!

  • Abdel Abdarian WTF ?

  • This Soundtrack had a Western touch

  • Baldurs gate was one of my first rpgs and i love it to hell. I consumed hours and hours of this game in my childhood

  • my dad plays baldurs gate and i alwas watch him try to beat sarevok on the first game :)

  • This discussion reminds me of that Extra Credit video on the Escapist site: games can have good aesthetics without needing to have great graphics. The Infinity Engine games have superb aesthetics, so the game looks better than many modern games because the graphics that it does have is used so well.

  • the thing is that with Baldur's Gate the graphichs are "perfect" in it's on way ... you don't see bad acting by characters because there is none ... unlike in Dragon Age for example, the acting of the characters is so bad it breaks the whole thing IMO. in BG you need to use your imagination, like reading a book instead of watching badly acted movie.

  • Dude, this game was the good old days

  • Dragon age was very good. But melissan battle was way more epic than that stupid (hell how he was easy). Baldur's gate is no game for pussies and cowards.

  • @AriesByTheStars ,Baldurs gate is for cowards? And what shall be the best?

Baldurs Gate is great with great legend

  • Any chance for them to make BG 3? Though BG 2 TOB's end said it's the end.

  • Graphics or not, the feeling of Baldur's Gate still haven't met a match. i decided to give it another go not long ago, and i still shiverd my way through most of the game. Best and most Epic game i have ever played, and it almost brings a tear to my eye everytime i see it end.

"No! Say it is not so! We will no longer fight evil together? Boo will miss you, . Forever shall we hang our heads in sadness in remembrance of our great butt-kicking friend."

  • @Tennie10 Minsc was my favorite character in the Game

  • @Tennie10 Minsc is epic isn´t he? no matter which class i play Minsc is a must be in every party i mean. he fits almost everywhere right at front (a good axe and that mace against undead and he fucks everything) or as Archer with composite longbow (not much Characters have the needed strength to use it i think it was strength 16) and a two handed sword for defence and then enjoy his comments^^ this man rules^^

  • @Tennie10 I love Minsc lol everything her says always makes me laugh

  • "YOU SHALL SUFFER!" - Melissan.

    "I SHALL PREVAIL!" - PLANETAR.

damn, those were the days. Now, I had my character fully-spec after hundreds of time playing... I love sorcerer.

  • Oh, shit! What the fuck? This...this is fucking badass!

  • Fking awesome game, far surpasses dragon age in graphics quality and in storyline

  • Fking awesome game, far surpasses dragon age in quality and in storyline

  • Baldur's gate is hands down one of my favorite game of all time and it gave birth to one of the most celebrated game studio in the industry

  • i read harry potter the 4th book.during the part on the final duel while listening 2 this LOL epic battle.

  • Mellissan didn't like listening to the music in the battle that killed her...

  • This is the music that plays when Chuck Norris takes a breath.

  • hate to change the subject, but... download link? plz??

  • Nothing Bioware have recently offered even comes close to this series. They can't reclaim the magic.

  • I remember thinking two thing...."Epic music!" and "Is there an end to that bitch?!"...XD

  • I so hate mellisan she is stupid! she said she could face The child of bhall! How dare of her! she if pristness of Lord of murder!

  • my favorite RPG to date!

  • Me pone los pelos de punta, me entran ganas de volver a jugar y llegar al trono de Bhaal! ufff...

  • bioware have made some great games

  • The game just reeked of style :). From the characters, story, to the art of the whole world, it felt like a storybook in living form, and I think at least in that it has not yet been equaled in anything but films. I still fire it up and plug in new mods that people have made from time to time.

  • I still think these games look good. Sure it's not high end graphics but the visuals are aesthetically pleasing and lasting. When I play them I still feel like I'm there because of the story, interactions, music, sounds...everything. A lot of new games, for all their visual glory just plain feel dead in comparison.

  • Focusing on graphics alone is sh**, left 4 dead pah!!! 4 levels and game over frak that!!! Music+Gameplay+storyline = awesome game. BG2+TOB = awesome game & 10/10 for the 3 categories + add the awesome intense fights (not 4 or 5 monster mobs but try the shiat loads in BG2) and fraking awesome boss fights that only BG2 can provide with it's awesome music and you have the only game in existence that goes above the 10/10 score!!!!!!!

  • @DaCMasta ...absolutely.

  • Baldurs Gate its the best, there is so much items, quest, the characters, music, the strategy of every battle.

Dragon age its so lame its for little kids.

  • @parlante123 well to be fair dragon age was pretty good game, it made me feel a little nostalgic, but yeah, baldurs gate is without equal

  • @parlante123 I resent that statment. I am a "lil kid". im 16 and I pretty grew up on this series and I dont think DAO could equal it but it made me understand more of how good this game was and it was plenty fun and plenty good. Dont make a general hate statement please. DAO IS good, its just not BG3.

  • watch?v=MsveK8rT2aU

  • This is definately the best gaming music of all time.

  • I vote new companies save themselves thousands of dollars by saying fuck you good graphics and hiring 3 more writers to get this crap fixed. It's a shame to see the same kind of idiocy from american idol and reality tv shows spill into my video games. give me epicness, insane fights, diverse characters, and a real god damn story that actually makes you care bout whats happening... all else is sugar coated bullshit.

  • @Baconbits16 totally agree with u

  • Simply great music, great gameplay. Many people complains obout graphics, generaly, but I dont get it. The fact that graphic part of the game was not that good meant, that the storyline and other important parts had to be better, cooler. Today?? Its just graphics, and then the rest...what a shame

  • @Shroubek dude, i have no idea why anyone would complain about graphics.

even to this day, the game got some seriously great graphics. all the walls, floors, everything has huge amount of detail.

  • @ssdiothor there prerenderd meaning there really pictures and stuff pasted there buts it done very well like resident evil remake

  • YOU SHALL SUFFER

    DOOM AWAITS THEE

  • "Damn the Ctrl+Y!!"yelled the almost goddess as she burned to oblivion.

    Just kidding.

    PS: English isn't my language.

  • Bioware are Geniuses!!! NWN and Baldurs Gate 2 are the greatest things they have done!

  • And by way WHERE CAN I FIND THIS!?? ITS FREAKING AWSOME is it avalible on Itunes?

  • Dunno what people mean with the graphics. I think the visuals shown in BG II and ToB are better then some "modern" RPGs with their 3D and flat textures. I mean Dragonage? Serously, get a bit closer and you see in many places a lot of bad visuals, same to Fallout 3, full of glitches and bugs anyway. For BG most of the graphic was "hand made" and you can see that. Atkatla and particuilarly the dungeons look very good. Only thing that comes close is the elven ruins in Dragonage eventualy

  • @CrniWuk agreed... graphics-wise BG2 is much better than Diablo 2 itself and the gameplay is WAY MUCH BETTER than Diablo 2.

  • @CrniWuk and even if the graphics were bad i'd still play it the gameplay, dialogue, humor, epicness, story, and so much more shit is more than enough to carry it to my top 3 games

  • @CrniWuk I wish they would still release games in 2D, those were awesome.

(BGs, Icewind Dale 1, 2, the oldschool C&C's, Starcraft, Diablo, Age of empires and countless others)

Better gameplay, better storylines, more creative, just awesome.

  • @CrniWuk

Some, yes, but pre-rendered flat images are too limited. Dragon Age? You can rotate the camera, survey they area from so many different directions, get a close-up view or a distant vantage however the mood takes you. Not to mention the advantages of having actual face graphics. =P

But you do have a point. Thing is, the more advanced things get, the more expensive and time-consuming it gets. So designers wind up having to cut corners to make the deadline, or even to save space.

  • @CrniWuk I love old games. They generally have more gameplay, better stories etc etc.

But to say that modern graphics are no better? BG graphics were amazing for their time, but regardless of how close you look at it, they are not a touch on things such as Oblivion...

You cannot compare graphics of a game some 11-12 years old. It simply wouldn't stand, which is natural.

The difference is, graphics do not make a game. They only make a fraction of it.

  • @Grigeral

I think what you are talking about are the visuals with pixel shaders, HDR lighting, paralxing or what ever new features are used today with 3 dimensional graphics. Those cant be compared. But I am talking about the artistic side and style.

  • @Grigeral

I am not comparing simply the "visual" side of the graphic but the artistic as well. Take a closer look at the dungeons and locations of Oblivion which are generic fillers random content. Every ruin looks the same and you cant tell them apart. In BG the style for many places is unique Atkala doesnt looke like Waterdeep and many dungeons had a distrinctive look. Artistacly speaking. I love the elven ruins in Oblivion, but there are not enough uniquie locations.

  • @CrniWuk

True that I love Oblivion but they miss alot of the details that were in morrowind and baldurs gate 1 and 2 that is the minus with better graphics but I still love all of these games

and I never care that much about graphics

  • @Grigeral Of course you can.

Some modern day games have great models but terrible interfaces and tie everything else in together poorly. I am sure if you went looking you'd find a dozen with terrible camera's or animations which looked ridiculous, yet models and resolution which at first glance were great.

BG2 was one of the most complete package I have ever seen, it had it all for its time.

  • @CrniWuk I agree about Dragon Age, it looked SO muddy. Fallout 3 on the computer, however, was a very high-quality piece of work.

I will say this, though. BG2 kicks the hell out of NWN 1 and 2 any day.

  • @CrniWuk And IWD... Damn, it was beautiful

  • @CrniWuk i prefer dragon age graphics but because of the better graphics they seem to forgot to make a game which is nearly awesome and fun to play just like baldurs gate.....

  • @CrniWuk Their Graphicwhores who think that Graphics make the game, Best idea is to leave them to it when they finally get tired of their poorly made games and play the so -called "Bad Graphic" games they'll see intill then let's just enjoy our "BADLY" made games shall we. LOL

  • Best.

  • ad Narutofan78215:

What is more important in life than love and revenge?

  • @Eleshar24 God...talk about your invalid choices.

  • are you mad? Amelyssan the Blackhearted was the ultimate villain and evil npc in any game ive ever seen.

a mortal, trying to become a god...what more do you possibly want!?

  • @MaynardKeenanX

Pale version of Joneleth.....but much more subtle than him!

  • As epic as this is, she was just a complete let down after Irenicus. She simply isn't credible as a villain after you've just dispatched someone much, much better written. That ridiculous accent did her no favours, either.

  • She didn't need to have some deep purpose, after all she was trying to become Goddess of Murder.

Irenicus was more of a let down IMO. All this build up of him being a sophisticated and intellectual villain and all he cared about was love and revenge.

Sarevok is still top dog in my book.

  • Well, see, that's probably part of it. I doubt if I'm the only one who didn't have some degree of sympathy for him after Queen Allegedly Lawful Good did what she did. It just made it more interesting. Although you're damn right, Sarevok is interesting because of the whole "It could have been me." thing. She, however, is just vapid and has no particularly interesting points about her... on the other hand, she's not Bodhi, which helps.

  • QFT!!!

When I work out how to do it, I will write a mod which adds the dialogue option, "(Slap Ellesime) You bloody idiot! You only went and let someone who wanted to become a god and kill your entire city's population in the process live rather than snicking his head off like you ought to have done 50 years ago to save us the arsing bother of coming to this overgrown hippie compound just to save your neck on pain of having my soul sucked out! Cretinous bitch!"

  • @Hessar

Well the final fight isn't a let down if you have ascension mod.

  • Depends on what type of a let down we're speaking of. I just think she's a bit of a poo character, really. Ascension was fun, in a nightmarish kind of way. Damnit, now I want to play the bloody game again...

  • Well if you say that a stereotypical servant-betrays-master theme and the whole appear-at-the-start-then-fight-you-in-the-end thing is crap then yeah maybe.

But otherwise I like the way she manipulated you to kill (or try to kill, depends on what your choice is with balthazaar) the 5.

  • I suppose a lot of what I disliked is that... well, it was blatantly obvious she wasn't a goodie goodie two shoes. But you can't not go along with it. Though yeah, that'd have broke the plot, I guess.

  • @Hessar That just make me want to kill her all the more. How dare she try and usurp Irenicus' place as main villain! She shall feel my wrath for that sacrilege.

  • Excellent.

    Dramatic. Powerful. Thrilling.

    Love it.

  • Maxed out Wizard Slayer, Silver Vorpal Sword. Wizards get 10% chance at spell failure when hit by a WS, so she's basically just mega-Sarevok after I hit her a few times.

  • Even Illasera is quite powerful in the ascension mod. However, other fingers of the end are even thougher, and by far... (Except Balthazar maybe ?)

  • Awesome tune

  • Amelissan with Ascension Mod was the hardest boss i've ever fought in a video game

  • maybe your tactics are not good.. in the storyline, fighting Abazigal is hardest.. because you've to face Draconis and lot tougher!

  • This may be true for the unmodded game, but with installed ascension-mod amelissan is 1000 times tougher than abazigal. Sure, abazigal does some serious damage in human form, but amelissan is just insane and her "summon 50 demons in 1 round" spell has killed me countless times.

  • what is the mod?

  • the ascension-mod changes the fights and the story of throne of bhaal to be a better fitting end of the game and the last fight vs melissan is just INSANE difficult, first you have to fight the resurrected irenicus, bodhi, the slayes and sarevok all at the same time, then in phase 2 you have to fight all of the 5 bhaalspawns together and after you take out 2 of them amelissan joins the battle.

  • try to remember that it's not Amellisan.. it's Amellysan.. Irenicus, Bodhi, Slayers and Sarevok is quite acceptable.. Illasera, Gromnir Ill Khan, and Yaga-Shura isn't that tough.. but Abazigal and Sendai?? whoa.. and with Amellysan.. oh, this is helicilious.. but with 1000 HP on Sarevok.. I think I can't be beaten.. they don't stand a chance if I choose the right strategy.. where can I get this mod..

  • The fifth bhaalspawn is balthasar, not gromnir ;-)

Yagashura and illasera aren't so easy though, because they got improvements in ascension as well.

I can't post a link in a youtube comment, but if you type "ascension mod" in google it should be the first hit. the name of the website is "weidu"

  • not again.. it's Balthazar.. I'll try.. but do you achieved a 1000 HP for Sarevok? I doubt you do.. for me, he got maxed level. The last level for him is he is granted as one of the bhaalspawn.. which makes me uncomfortable because BG is like Oblivion.. if one's achieved great.. the spawn will be the same.. after he was granted as a b.spawn.. he can turn to a Slayer and won't loose any hp..he's the greatest person in BG.. he even can do 800 damage in Critical Hit.. use him, I advise..

  • Sarevok is very strong yes, but a correctly used fighter/mage or fighter/thief is nearly unbeatable as well.

  • maybe... but I feared if a dual-class may lacked the skills.. Slayer change.. whoa..

  • And sry for the name-errors, but it's balthasar and amelissan in my german version, so i wrote them like that ^^

  • oh.. cheers..

  • One of the best game ever made!

  • "Melissan deals 137 Damage to Sarevok"

    "Sarevok- Death"

    "Slayer Shadow attacks Cernd"

"Melissan: Minions of the Abyss, your Mistress summons your aid!"

Spawns in like 2 Elder Orbs, a Alhoon, Cornugonski and Glabrezu.

  • "Viconia: Oh shit "

"Melissan deals over 9000 damage to the world"

  • Oh shit, OVER NINEEE THOUSAAAAAND.....

  • Best RPG I've ever played. No other game is as deep and atmospheric as Baldur's Gate. There's kust no competition.

    <3333333333333....

  • I love Baldur's Gate2. Its just damn good and EPIC!

  • @jehangirthegreat play planescape torment, you''ll see what is epic. ;)

  • @Felipe550710 Please, Torment was a great RPG but the Baldur's Gate series is alot more epic.

  • not as good as bhaalspawn or dragon battle.but its good anyway.

you havent played tob if you didnt do it with acension btw..its the true version all things considerd[better demogorgon, more story choises..MUCH MUCH better final battle..etc.

if your old tob disc is rotting just get acsention and enjoy this for the final time

  • Is it compatible with "Wheels of Prophecy"?

  • Ascension isn't for the faint of heart. The final battle is incredibly difficult if you don't play your cards right. Abazigal will rip through everyone without regard to armor or HP, Balthazar (if you didn't convince him to fight for you or abstain) hits just as hard and gets all kinds of specials, Sendai can cast some truly nasty spells, Yaga-Shura is almost immortal, and Illasera will butcher your casters if you don't keep her busy.

And then Amelyssan will join in after you kill a few...

  • You kidding? Ascension is merciless!

I haven't even tried it myself (and I've played BG through like 50+ times by now), but I bet I'd get wiped out in seconds even with Spike Traps & Project Image + Summon Planetar -cheesing.

Regular Melissan fight is just enough for me, thank you very much..

  • On the other hand, it is not that hard if you play your cards right. There are a lot to exploit: for example, the routes to the platforms are narrow, but Yaga-Shura and Amelyssan are both overweight; Killing a bhaalspawn disables Amelyssan, but you need to do it at the right moment; Amelyssan's raw power and summons are deadly, but if you can make her unable to move...

  • technically it was more difficult but I found it cheesier

i felt sarevok's development was complete and melissan being batshit insane crazy was a fitting end.

the only reason people disliked the final is cuz they got lots of warriors, and how mel was set up only wars or strong clerics could hurt, everyone else was dead meat.

  • One of the greatest duels at D&D.

  • everything in the unmodded game is easy.

  • You shall suffa!

  • Melissan - death

  • HAY ! This is from my epic battle with Melissan xD

  • There's a file somewhere (on the NWN2 vault site, I think) that you can extract to get all the music from the entire Baldur's Gate series. You have to add most of the track names yourself, but it's worth it for such amazing music! XD

  • i cant find it. care to help me out?

  • F***ing demogorgon. I fought the original, much harder version, I got a total party kill one hundred times in a row before I could pull off a single shot.

  • Does anyone have the mp3 to this?

  • try using a program called atube catcher

  • Finished both games twice and after 2 years.....I kind of miss it lol!!!

  • nice final battle music but the dragon battle music is much better but Baldurs gate is the BEST GAME EVER MADE!!!!!!!!

  • and by the way WEERE CAN I FIND THE MUSICS PLZ AN REPLY IF YOU KNOW BECAUSE SOME OF THE MUSICS ARE SOOOOO GREAT!

  • I have all these musics ripped since there is an utility to convert infinity engine musics into wave format (so mp3 is easy to make).

Try to look for IE and music on google?

  • Do you have the mp3 for this one?

  • Demogorgon was eaaasy but melissana... this is other history.... She was veery very hard. In the most difficult level she is immortal.... Song is nice :)

  • yes, she's very hard! the 1st time i fight her, it took me 5-6 times i reload the game... she keep on summoning the creature with unlimited numbers!

  • I love this song now, but there was a time when I'd break out in a cold sweat just thinking about it. Amellysan is a beast to kill.

  • Oh god demogorgon, don't drain all my levels with your god damned tail and your abillity to take two rounds worth of actions!!! IT BURNSSSSSSS!!!

  • You're not meant to use timestop.

  • Doom awaits thee!

  • You shall suffer! *I love her taunts*

  • Well actually demogorgon is immune to time stop. If you use it you will just make your party stop and he will kill all your party in 12 sec:) Just use a lot of traps. Every time i play i have at least 2 wizards in party so i use few sequencers and when the batlle starts he gets hit by few lower resistance spells and a LOT of Abi-Dalzim's:) Like Flaminjapaleno said, 5 sec

  • I just used Breach, Haste, Pierce Shield, then got Ravn (my character, a berserker), Sarevok, and Korgan up in his face. We took some big hits but he went down quick enough.

  • @Ascyltos you wouldn't be able to do that with ascension mod :)

  • I created a party of Bhaalspawn (played BG1 + BG2,Tob 6 times with different characters) that party owned demogorgon in just 5 seconds!

  • Champ! You are god!

  • It's a shame that I never managed to kill the Demon Prince in the fortress.

  • Demogorgon he was EASY

    (considering im lv 32

  • My party couldn't bring him down. Ok, it was a bad party as it was my first one. And I didn't use time stop.

  • i never used time stop on him i only us it on REAL bosses

    Draconis

  • Hm, Draconis died so easily that I don't remember him. :D

  • for me he was a HARD (to beat) son of a bitch

  • yeah, he keeps using invisibility.. my 3 character died.. but i got Viconia~ mass raise dead..

  • Not only is the music insanely great, dialog written wonderfully, and gameplay fun as hell, but the best parts are the player's emotional ties to the charecters and their advancement in the story. When I get done with this game, I bet I'm gonna feel empty inside. To me, that is what an RPG should be... real emotional concern for the charecters.

  • you havent finished yet? i envy you. the first time going through it was one of the best game experiences ever.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh yeah, that was yesterday!

  • Yeah I agree. Though one of the highlights was the replayability. I love how there were all those extra quests depending on what class you were. Sometimes I just chose the fighter/mage/cleric class to get more options. Never chose Aerie because she seemed a little bit to whiney for me, but I'm going through the game again to check it out. Good times.

  • I agree with you in this.

  • i cant wait for BG3:The Black Hound, I think it is going na be great

  • Does anyone know whether this music is somewhere for download in decent quality? I've got the tracks released by Bioware but the best pieces including this one are missing.

  • the GOAT (greatest of all time) simple as that. They should make a movie of this instead of the average at best D&D films made; all they'd have to do is shamelessly copy the game and it would be perfect.

  • Demogorgon by far or at least for sure the original one, my game doesnt have that lame ass weak one, Demo is just P I M P, and Melissan, well, she is just weak :)

  • i disagree demogorgon is easy and melissan is well really hard

  • best RPG I've ever played. No other game is as deep and atmospheric as Baldur's Gate II. There's just no competition.

    oh and <3 Viconia <3

  • no game maker put so much time soul effort and money into another game

  • This is the number 1 RPG ever made. I dont remember if I played any other RPGs that can be compared to this one. Maybe the Mask of the Betrayer expansion.

  • For me Baldur's Gate is the best RPG ever made. When I play RPG I always compare that to this masterpiece. So far the results have been average "The Witcher" being on the top. It saddens me that they never will make a game like this. This game gives you a reason to play and does it well. When moderate RPGs say "Wanna some moneh and powah? Then go kill those orcs over there!". In BG you are a spawn of a god whose soul has been stolen by mad sorceror. And you are not alone in this world.
