"And wide are your delusions. Deep red is the space behind your eyes. Closed forever, is the door to your room. But inside there lives the sound. You despise, but I love. You despise, but I love. Mother... I was wrong... Mother... I was wrong.... You were wrong... I am wrong... "
I can't help but be reminded of the Time Machines album from Coil. Both are experimental albums, both are rather long, both have similar designs for the cover and both are completely amazing.
It's a decent song from a very good album, but it MASSIVELY rips off "Time" by Pink Floyd. Have a listen to it from about 10 minutes onwards (I'm guessing at that time completely), it even has the plinky plonky melody in the background!
@cornishpastie9 REALLY?? OK, makes sure you've gone to just before 10:00 (my estimate was freakishly accurate) - the chords are the same. That is fine, because a lot of songs have identical chord progressions. But the melody in the background sounds so much like the intro (after the clocks have finished) to Time!! SO much like it.
I will listen to Time again...just to check. But I cannot believe you can't hear it.
@brodftw I don't see the problem. I would say that it's mostly similair in "feel" (because of chord progression and to some extent instrumentation) rather than any actual melody. The melody you are referring to is not identical, although similair. In The Sound the melody is basically just the notes of the played chords while in Time it's more than that and since it's the same chords, of course they are going to sound similair.
Besides, this is a 13 minute song and it only sounds similair to the intro of Time and not the rest of the song at all, so considering this and the fact that this turns out quite different in sound, as I said I don't see the problem. You definately may be right about the source of inspiration though.
@brodftw I can actually hear it it fairly clearly but I'm reminded of one of my favorite quotes:
"To see beyond the horizon, stand on the shoulder's of giants". There is nothing wrong to admitting to your influences or even allowing them to - for lack of a better word- influence your works. Clearly Swans has demonstrated they are open to an ongoing conversation with the history of music, and this is just one more part of it.
@brodftw I grew up listening to DDark Side Of The Moon and there is no way Time comes close to being as visceral and emotive as this track is. I can respect Floyd but they sound like elevator music compared to Soundtracks For The Blind.
This is easily my favourite SWANS song. Bar none. I love SWANS but this one gets the blue ribbon.

@TheFragile89 True, they don't sound similar (except for the droning synths in this song) but I couldn't help but think of it.

What are you talking about? I can't even spot the slightest resemblance listening to the two songs one after the other.
