Basically the reason subliminal messages work at controlling people is, because that person has a preconceived idea of what the symbol represents.

If the symbol for you means nothing, or means something different than what they want it to mean. Then it will NOT HAVE THE DESIRED EFFECT ON THE RECIPIENT AT ALL. The other option would be for the mind to finally reject it after not being able to place it somewhere.
