  • Dose it come out dry shadows or creamy?

  • "When You Pull All The Pigments To The Side, They Stay" *Pigments Fall To Other Side*

  • wow you're dumb

  • i love love love love love that new palette at the end lol

  • i love biosilk :) great tip! now its great to use something you already have laying arround :D

  • I actually like this idea alot...She obvousily has tried it for herself or she wouldnt be showing us how to do it.. I have a a couple of Questions for ya... Where do I find biosilk and Why havent you tried Glyserin? I heard that worked too but hey, Im just learning this is to why im searching how to do this because I have lots of broken shadows..

  • oh god. I am a makeup artist too, who makes my own makeup and I can assure you this is perfectly fine. Brand-Victims will say otherwise, but they have those in any industry. Look up the ingredients and you will see she is correct. Nothing here will harm you and it looks to work great.

  • where can u get biosilk?????

  • @girliecurlz22 You can get it at wal-mart where you find all the other hair care products. It is $16 there and i find wal-mart is the cheapest because ive seen them go from $20-$40 in salons, other stores, etc.

  • where did youget the thing you put the pressed pigments in?

  • hi you can use essential oils

  • "Biosilk is safe on the use of skin and contains the ingredients Dimethicone and Cyclomethicone, two usual ingredients listed in make up primers and skincare products"

That's why I make my own mixing medium of alcohol, monistat chafing cream and glycerine. It's similar to Coastal Scent's mixing medium ingredient list. Just a drop of the booty cream is needed.

  • you need a mixing medium as well. not just alcohol hunnie

  • Eyeshadows are made with alcohol :l And when you use alcohol in pressing pigments they do that because the alcohol evaporates.

  • can i use Matrix Biolage Shine renewal? I went to sallys and they said it was the generic version of Biosilk? Is that okay?

  • @alithereviewer actually you can use biosilk on skin it even says on the container

  • @songhug Yeah, I use my Biosilk on my skin too. I put it in my hair then rub the remainder on my hands and elbows. :)

  • @alithereviewer You are ill-informed. Biosilk is mostly cyclomethicone and dimethicone, which are ingredients commonly used in high-end eye makeup. Coastal Scents also sells a pigment pressing solution which is made from the same ingredients. Next time know what you're talking about before you make useless posts that misinforms people.

  • As someone who makes makeup, this is a nightmare..

Yes, it will press your eyeshadow, but biosilk is for your hair, and is NOT approved for use around your eyes.

The LAST thing you want to do is put that stuff near the sensitive skin around your eyes and damage it :(

PLEASE do NOT try this for eyeshadow...

I really hope nobody that saw this video is using it to press eyeshadow that they are selling :(

  • can you use chi silk infusion? please reply.

  • glycerin, it's good and cheap. 1 part glycerin to 3 parts alcohol, easy cheap works better non irritating.

  • Maybe its the quality of your eyeshadows..

  • what kind of biosilk is it?

    1.Biosilk Silk Therapy

    2.Biosilk Silk Therapy Shampoo

    3.Biosilk Silk Therapy Cure

  • Good idea!

  • hi what do you think of the Sampler colored micas to start off with? this would be my first time trying it. I was thinking of doing the 30 colored one. I was wondering if yours came with those pigments jars as in your "how to press" video tutorial. Please let me know, id appreciate it very much! xoxo

  • @barbieIovesmac I don't think you want to wear shampoo on your eyes...you definitely have to use the silk therapy.

  • Can you also use different biosilk shampoo or you have to use silk therapy??

  • i experimented using my daughter's Johnson's no more tangles spay. it ame ut pretty good. it was quite firm.

  • You copied the Coastal Scents video all you did was use Biosilk instead.

  • cual es ese producto del bote?

  • Too bad biosilk costs twice a much as fixing medium lol

  • @lah3m4 not per ounce

  • dont u think it flakes cus u added a bit to much of alcohal ?

  • I have used alcohol 3:1 to vegetable glycerin, can be found in ethnic hair sections and body. It is hypoallergenic and good for your skin. I have very sensitive eyes, and this works for me. holds together very well.

  • Im not going to agree nor disagree with what anyone is saying but I am going to say that, I have been using a small ammount of bio silk on my face after I clean it to help my dry skin for almost 4 years now, and my face is fine- but i dont use it on my eyes and im no doctor.

  • You're a retard if you follow this video. Biosilk is not meant to be used on the FACE. You'll remember this when your doctor gives you a good lecture....TRUST ME

  • you need to add a couple drops of glycerine to the alcohol and pigment mixture to make it stick together

  • I was talking about using this and... this is what some user said, which they make a valid point... I think I will just spend the 10.00... ugh

  • " Re: Pressing Mica's (biosilk hair therapy)

    « Reply #23 on: May 09, 2009, 02:04:09 PM

This product was made for one purpose. for the hair and and has nothing to do with makeup. Products like these are filled with chemicals and you have no idea what the percentage of the chemicals in this product that were used. It is not o'kay and using this over time may cause some serious skin damage and even loss of sight if used around the eye area. The skin around the eye is very thin." <group post

  • @bcso2006 I totally agree! As a makeup artist, i would NOT use biosilk around the eyes! Biosilk is good on " skin" and when they say " skin" they mean body- NOT face! I have a friend who MAKES makeup professionally and even she was shocked to see this ! You may not be affected the first time you use it around the eye, but prolonged usage can have a horrible outcome!

  • @DivaLatinaANNI Oh shut up. ._.

  • @ChainsawJulietx I don't see what you're vex about, I ACTUALLY went to school for this stuff so I know what I am talking about !

  • @DivaLatinaANNI Yeah, but nobody gives a shit what you have to say.

  • @ChainsawJulietx well i wasn't talking to you in the first place, I was agreeing with someone else, why don't you get on their case too or grow the hell up?

  • @DivaLatinaANNI Look, if she wants to use Biosilk, let her.

:l If she comes out with dry skin, does that harm you? No. No it doesn't.

  • the reason it wasnt holding is because u needed to add glycerin

  • @IzZyD526 so you use glycerin and alcohol? is there a tutorial for that?

  • I drove to Sally's because I had a $5.00 off coupon only to find out they don't care biosilk!

  • I purchased Sally's generic Value Products called Silk Treatment and according to the bottle (on the back) it has a side by side of bother The generic and Biosilk ingredients and they seem to be the same! What do you think?

  • Wonderful idea! Iam so doing htis today! :)

  • where do u get your empty palettes???

  • Brilliant! This worked so well for me, was quick and easy too. I had tried creams and alchohol etc but this has worked best for sure. Even BE minerals etc come out great - better maybe that when they are loose. Thanks so much!!!

  • wal-mart, sally's, almost anywhere that sells beuty supplies

  • lol i was at harmon which is a local drugstore in my town and they had biosilk and i didnt buy it i should have and i tried the alochol it didnt work it came out clumpy

  • I am so excited by this! I was going to drive into the city this weekend to buy MacPro mixing medium from the Mac pro store, so I could press some mineral powders. But I already have Biosilk! Now I can press a palette tonight!

  • This is awesome.Sadly I don't have pigments. :( But that Green and Blue color are AMAZING :D Those are my favorite colors! XD ahaha!

  • I pressed my minerals with hair serum but they won't dry... do you know why? or what I should do?

  • were do you get the loose pigments!!!!!!!!!! im looking for them everywere

  • u can get barry m dazzle dusts they work jsut aswell

  • mac...loreal.

  • QUESTION: (if any one can answer=)

I had the same problem with one of my shadows that I pressed with alcohol...

can I break it up and press it with biosilk now or do i have to just throw it away.

    Any ONE =(

    THANKS

  • you should be able to repress it. if there is any irritation after pressing it with biosilk, discard it then.

  • you can press it again with the biosilk if it doensn't work with biosilf just give it to someone or throw it away

  • i"ve heard that it makes it really oily? is that true

  • Thanks!!

  • Where can you find the Biosilk?

  • Hair salons, or Hair stores? I have a set :)

    They work awesome! :D

  • can i use this to press micas?

  • yeah...

  • does this change the color?

if its a matt pigment will it make it shiney?

  • ur pots r kinda loose

  • what colours did u use theyre gorgeoussssssssssssssssssssssss

  • where can you get the bio silk?

  • you can get it at any drugstore such as cvs for 13 dollars or you can go to sallys beauty supply and buy the generic for 6-9 dollars

  • any beauty supply

  • You can get it at the hairdressers`:)

And you can use the bio slik silk therapy to just about everything in the whole world. Its LOVELY!

  • how do you make the loose pigment?

  • u kan use MAC , JANE , CS , EM and alot moore :)

or if u wanna make ur own u can crack a eyeshadow and blend together whit glitter og something :)

  • what kind of pigment do you use?

  • biosilk has parabens in it!

  • thats such a huge waste! use glycerin for 2 dollars at any drugstore! thats the ingredient thats making the pigment bond!

  • wait can i mix glycerin with my loose mineral powder? its not going to damage my skin?

  • Glycerine is very good for your skin, it binds moisture=)

  • Do you mix the glycerin with anything before you press the pigments?

  • where can i buy biosilk?

  • where do you get biosilk?

  • I saw it at sweetbay once, but it was 12 bucks for one half the size of hers! Get glycerin, its alot cheaper and works just as well!

  • For a cheaper alternative for the Biosilk (that doesn't burn) you can use glycerin

  • do you need to mix it with water or what?

  • Nope, just alcohol, and there's also a generic brand you can buy at Sally's and the ingredients are identical to the Biosilk.

  • So you mixed the glycerin with alcohol?

  • 1 part glycerin to 3 parts water

  • BioSilk BURNS?!

  • I dunno, someone said it did. And I've heard it from people before.

  • ohhhhh thanks

  • that's so cool !

where did you get the palette ??

  • Hmmm...my earlier reply never posted. For the person who asked, those pallets and pans/tins are from TKB Trading and fairly cheap.

  • can you use this method for pressing the NYX loose pearl mania? please let me know.... thankss

  • yup

  • I tried this, and it was easy... but when I applied the new pressed eyeshadow, it immediately started to burn my skin. I am really glad I only did 2 to start with, since now they are going in the trash :(

  • to press it you can use the back of other of your square pan,if you dont want to use your hands anymore... i think i will work

  • where can i find biosilk?

  • u can find them almost everywhere.

    jc penny

    kroger

    i believe ulta

    n sometimes @ tj maxx

    i recommend tj maxx.

    that where i got it!!

    i got it 4 20 bucks!!!

    it was the biggest size!!

    tj maxx sells things cheaper!!

  • thanks a lot!!!

  • why are u making it so hard? all u gotta do is google it and it wil tell u where u can find it at.

  • this is interesting

  • great idea..ps i love your nails!

  • i was thinking the same thing. so its great that u were experimenting. thanks for sharing

  • hey kayden,

i tried googling Hexyl Cinnamic Aldehyde which is an ingredient in biosilk and its an eye irritant.Apparently the only common ingredients between ez prez and biosilk are cyclomethicone and dimethicone. after seeing you review i tried the biosilk method and was really dissapointed to know that there was an eye irritant in it, so i stopped using it :(

  • thanks for the warning!

i've been using my pressed shadows for months and i seem to be okay but probably because i'm very careful not to let any flake into my eye.

  • she sounds like pursebuzz,

  • where did you get the palette

  • i it the biosilk glazing gel?

  • biosilk is a hair serum.

  • You've mixed the pigments up,but how do you press them?

  • i press them using my hands for the square pans. it's better to use a quarter to press a circular pan.

  • can u use this 4 usual eyeshadows not mineral

  • i don't know. i haven't tried.

  • I just wanted to point out to everyone there are other products you can use that are less expensive than biosilk that contain Dimethicone and Cyclomethicone. I looked at a couple of my hair polishers/serums and they normally contain both ingrediants.

Great video though, it gave me idea to check out the hair products I already have :-).

  • indeed.

i just have biosilk lying around because i don't use it.

definitely experiment but carefully look at the ingredients to determine if it's eye safe.

  • I used citre shine. It's $4 and smells amazing! Only question tho, I know that these hair serums don't actually "dry" so would the shadow turn out sort of 'greasy' at all, or crease because of it?

    *Rocksterize* tutorials

  • i pressed mine with fantasia hair polisher (i added/mixed in a little alcohol w/ it too).

my shadows dried fine and i doubt any creasing.

as with any application of eyeshadows, use a good base so it won't crease, if u end up having problems.

  • use a tiny bit at a time. i would suggest a few drops of alcohol as well. i tried using a thicker serum before and it presses well but i had trouble getting the shadow onto a brush.

  • I used the citre shine on one, and then again on another. The first one worked but then the second one was hard to get on the brush. I think it's either too thick or I didn't use enough the second time. I'm trying again...experimenting lol =/

    *Rocksterize* tutorials

  • i think the thicker serums are harder to get on a brush after pressing. i've noticed it's much nicer when i use the thinner ones.

  • u can also use perfume. trust me. i ve tried nd it work!!!

  • yeah because perfume has alcohol in it

  • For most minerals or fine-milled shadows the alcohol method won't work. It's taken me a few tries w/ a few eyeshadows to see what brands will work and which ones won't. :)

    *Rocksterize* tutorials

  • so did you mix your own pigments( the color) or did you buy those eyeshadows and press them? if u bought them somewhere, could u tell? i LOVE those colors :)

  • I was wondering if you could mix the Biosilk with water or alcohol?

  • alcohol is soluble in biosilk but i don't think you can mix water with it.

  • where would one get these tins that you have to press into?

  • will the biosilk sting your eyes? i work at a drugstore, and i read the precautions... n it says to keep away from eyes?

  • i believe it should stay out of your eyes. eyelids should be okay.

  • the best would be to find smthg that contains the ingredients you've mentionned and is safe for the eyes but what?

  • HI I m in France and I don't really know what is your biosilk, is it cheap?

I m looking for something to press my pigments because I don't want to use alcohol, I am very sensitive. Any ideas? thanks

  • biosilk is just a serum to calm down frizzy hair or to smooth it down.

try purchasing a serum with the ingredients i listed.

  • those are all macs too?

  • nope. they are pigments i made.

  • wont it make the eyes feel greasy.because that some greasy hair stuff its like really thick.

  • not at all. a lot of pressed eyeshadows have these ingredients listed in them.

  • o ok then thanks will def try this

  • Brilliant! I like mineral makeup except puff of smoke I have to deal with every time I apply. I am going to try this! Thank you very much for the video.

  • whwre ca u get those kind of pans

  • awesome! do you think CHI Silk Infusion would work as good?

  • not sure. i just know the main ingredients in silk therapy worked well. try checking the label and compare the ingredients with EZpress.

  • I checked, both CHI & Biosilk contain Cyclomethicone & Dimethicone and that's what you mentioned are the same like EZ Press, is that right?

    thanks in advance!

  • hey thanks for this.. Im in Scotland in the Uk and have lots of Mac pigments I am going to try this with... your tutorial is great!!!!

  • mac pigments are actually great with only alcohol.

  • yay i tried this with the generic version of biosilk from sally's nd it worked soooo well! i posted a vid response to show the colors nd swatches i pressed

  • Were the eyeshadows, or pigments you presses, from any certain brand or company?

I really want to try this!

  • great vid!! thx! can i do this for mineral foundation too though?

  • great vid i pressed some minerals 2 w/. alcohol nd i had the same problem its crumbly! now i seen ur vid nd u use biosilk my question is r the ones i pressed useless or could i now mix them with biosilk nd use them?

  • crush the ones with alcohol and repress. it'll work just fine.

  • great idea!!! i always hated the idea of putting even the littlest bit of rubbing alcohol on my eyelids. this sounds and looks much better!

  • wow, this is really cool. I would have never thought to use biosilk! I have the generic Sally's brand at home collecting dust and tons of messy True Color loose minerals. I'm going to give it a go!

  • This is a really cool tip :]

    Thanks so much! <3

i was looking into the coastal scents one too. Now i think i'll try to find this product!

  • this worked with nyx pearls! omgosh im hooked!

  • what brand of mineral shadow did you or have you pressed?

  • i pressed the ones i made which are purely mica and a bit or titanium dioxide. i've also pressed nyx pearls.

  • hi, great idea! i love biosilk! i wanted to know if the eyeshadows turn out into a dry/powdery texture like regular eyeshadows or creamy like MAC paintpots or shadesticks(because of the biosilk)??

  • dry, powdery texture but more silkier than before. it really brings out the color more than using the plain mineral shadows.

  • WOW, very helpful video! Thanks a lot!

I am assuming these are just mineral pigments? I heard that MAC's work best with alcohol.

By the way you can use another square pan on top to press it. Is it true that biosilk smells funny though? I heard that smells like protein, and I am very fussy about smells because I am vegetarian.

    Thanks so much!

  • yes, the mac pigments work very well with alcohol since they already have silicone like binding ingredients in them.

the biosilk does have a scent, although i associate it with pleasant smells. however, everyone is different.

  • Thanks so much Alyssa, that helps a lot! I was wondering if you cold describe the smell because I live in the UK and if I have to order this I won't be able to smell it prior to buying. I don't like biological smells like burnt hair or burnt silk or anything to do with meat, fish or chicken. Do you know the range Perricone? Their products really smell SO BAD so I wanted to know if this would be similar.

  • i can't really describe the scent. it's not floral, nor chemical, and it doesn't remind me of any kind of meat. if you send me a message with your addy, i can send you a sample in a small jar?

  • the eyeshadow that you pressed in this video is mineral makeup right?

  • yes.

  • i haven't tried pressing any other powders yet. i will try pressing my mineral foundation as soon as i get the chance. have been really busy lately. i think i would use less biosilk and mix in some alcohol.
