  • Her facial expression when the main theme comes back is wonderful.

  • I absolutely love this. It has all the right ingredients of poise, fire, sweetness and passion. It's always near the edge of recklessness too, which absolutely suits this piece.

  • I had a CD with John Ogdon playing this, and that was my favourite rendition of this piece. CDs don't last forever, and I haven't been able to find the recording on the internet. WHAT A SHAME...

  • She's pretty and pretty good. But i like Rubinsteins Interpretation more than hers

  • I didn't like it. Rubinstein's version is better

  • I'm not sure if I like Chopin.

  • That's a period instrument or does the audio just suck that much?

  • exelente!

  • Como argentina, un inmenso orgullo es excelente.

  • this music just saved my life... i am sobbing. i came to listen to it one last time before i... and i realized i would never hear this beautiful recording again.. martha argerich, your gift is unsurpassed. thank you<3

  • aussi belle que la musique qu elle joue

  • Son sourire à 5:32 vaut plus que toutes les pitreries de Lang Lang réunies.. J'adore.

  • This is MUSIC!! q Honor una pianista Argentina!!

  • This piece makes me feel so happy :)

  • 5.31... Priceless

  • She's so pretty!

  • 88 people from brazil

  • @akumanation I am from Brazil and I personally think this is the best performance of this piece ever recorded. As well, I think Argerich music transcends silly struggles between Argentina and Brazil

  • I'm in love! her smile i such beautiful

  • Hay 88 sordos, juntemos plata para los audifonos !!!!!!! jajajajaja aaaa y no se olviden!! MARTHA ES ARGENTINA !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no way... horowitz rules. no one plays this polonaise like him

  • 5.31- 5.36 -----> best way to describe love for the music !

  • Terrible??? wow- the word is-Passionate-- I'll take passion over perfection anyday-She's that good.

  • @bluesman341 Passion over perfection anyday. Totally!

  • BECHSTEIN UBER ALLES !!!

  • From 5:20-5:40, and most specifically at 5:32, there is absolutely no argument that Martha feels the music in her soul more than any other pianist I've ever seen.

  • When you've got thousands of artists interpreting a composers work over many generations simply playing it true to the score accurately up to speed with a unique interpretation may not be enough.. Argerich isn't ever satisfied following a pathway.. She so often strikes out into the unknown and leaves behind a trail.. She's willing to take tempos others cower from she searches out new melodic shapes and while I love 99% of them she certainly won't please everyone but here you have a true artist

  • Linda!

  • that smile at 5:32 is so hot

  • @PianoPotter I can't help but wonder if there was a single woman in the audience who was not thinking, "God *dammit*, life is not fair".

  • rubinstein Himself would be proud of the way she plays Chopin

  • Simply BEAUTIFUL!

  • She's definitely the best-lookin' classical piano playing chick I've ever seen!

  • I LOVE THIS my GOD !!!

  • Martha Argerich is an alien.

  • Finaly, Argerich has broken a million views record!! I just don't understand, why so late :-)

  • Bechstein.

  • Holla!

  • I love Martha soooo much!

  • Just terrific! Good job!

  • Practice more scales and chords.

  • @Jimistroll hahahhahaahaha i couldnt stop laughing!! :D:D

  • As Oscar Wilde said : "After playing Chopin I feel as if I had been weeping over sins that I had never committed and mourning over tragedies that were not my own"... I agreed with him, but M. Argerich makes Chopin sound happy. Maybe that's what make her interpretation unique.

  • one million views and still not enough people know her name

  • A staggeringly great performance. And to be able to see her facial expressions: what a gift!

  • She was a good looking girl.

  • I've always loved this piece, but now that I've seen Martha playing it I love it even more

  • This is really good. Why is Valentina Lisitsa in the related videos to an Argerich video???

  • Fantástico, Orgasmico ..... Genial, Amo a Martha Para mi la mejor pianista de Latinoamerica )

  • I like so much her smile when she's finally coming back to the reprise! Martha forever!

  • it's like listening to chopin himself! so captivating!

  • The bit from 4:30 to 5:20 is the most perfect thing to have existed, ever. It always makes me tear up a little - nothing to do with the mood of the music, just how perfect and transcendent it is.

  • she makes me cry......

  • Argerich is a marvel. She is one of the few pianists in history who can play with amazing virtuosity and great intellectual feeling at the same time. There are some who are one or the other but rarely both!!!

  • TALENTO DE ARGENTINA

  • I love the way she smiles.... :] @ 5:30 ...shows how much she enjoys the piece..xD

  • too many misstyped sounds?

  • I was burnt out about listening to this piece, but Martha made it almost like new again. She really makes this piece sing!

  • I thot da perr4manse waz unreel havta say. Buh I dont agreee wiv shanefee coz he duznt feel da moosik in hiz soul.

  • @juiceforjoe No, shitty recording quality.

  • Shanefee1770 is a superhero who saves us from the ignorant.

  • i agree with shane from london!

  • Almost at a million! Everyone keep viewing! <3

  • @1Thompsonmusic if her chopin is so terrible why did a panel of distinguished and seasoned experts award her 1st prize in this competition when she was aged 24 for this very performance? whether you enjoy Argerich or not is not really relevant, and questioning someone's intelligence for their opinion on who is clearly the world's greatest living pianist is base and stupid because it is generalisation and only goes to display your own huge lack of enlightenment.

  • @Shanefee1770 Shane you have some excellent points there, obviously an excellent musician with great insight

  • @Shanefee1770 I don´t think so....

  • @Shanefee1770 in other words¡Pelotudo!

  • @KiMonostereo I don't understand what you mean? choose one language and stick to it.

  • notwithstanding the accepted notion of ms. argerich's place as one of the greatest living pianists, do you think that judges would have awarded her first place in the recently past chopin competition on the basis of this performance?

  • It's Op 53

  • does everyone else pass their left hand over their right when hitting the Bb in the little arpeggio at the end of the main phrase. I thought it was just me, but seen her do this too. gonna check pollini and sum other dudes

  • This is such an exciting performance! She does hit a few clunkers though...

  • I'm pretty sure Chopin he's in love himself.

  • Quisiera ser el piano :)

  • I las muequitas y besitos que tira, estoy enamorado!

  • No puedo creer lo linda que es!

  • she's pretty.

  • She is the best - now or then!

  • This is wonderful. :)

  • ich sollte mal wieder mehr üben! bin faul geworden. katharina bösbeck

  • awesome!

  • Funny how the piano changes from Steinway to Bechstein and back to Steinway...hm :) But it sound great!

  • i love her <3

  • It was Martha's 70th birthday yesterday!

  • @RH98

she's the sexiest grandmother in the entire world :D

  • HAPPY 70TH ANNIVERSARY, GODDESS!

  • Este video es fenomenal en todo aspecto.

  • Beautiful music.. beautiful woman...

  • I simply hate the 81 people that disliked.

  • @EnricoPolanski Many persons are convinced that they have the inborn science... Very bad for the music....

  • Grande Martha! Más que un ejemplo a seguir para mi!

  • The greatest living female pianist

  • Good, but not as powerful or majestic as Rubinstein's version (which also contains fewer mistakes). There is an outstanding video of Rubinstein playing this piece on youtube. The naturalness of his playing, power, and his understanding of this piece is unmatched by any other pianist.

  • @bobbphysics lol dont make me laught who the hell u are to say who is making mistakes or not just stfu and listen

  • @qnazgulp please listen to Rubinstein's video of this on youtube before replying. Thanks

  • @bobbphysics I'd have to agree with you, but Argerich is still among the greatest pianists of our time.

  • DERP DERP DERPP!

  • She didn't bow because 60's Japan just got nuked by the westerners and it was considered commonplace, casual and maybe even proper to disrespect them. Fun fact: Did you know there's no way to say "nuke" in Japanese because they don't have the "nu-" sound in their alphabet? Maybe that's why those Hiroshima folk didn't understand what was comin' 'til it hit 'em! Ha! : sidtube dot com/gallery/168/

  • @maskedpillager actually, they do have the nu- sound. there is a nyu- sound too. please stop being ignorant and enjoy the music.

  • @l0nEr Stop trying to patronize me, hypocrite, it's ignorant to make assumptions about how anyone else enjoys music. The "u" you speak of on that "nu" sound is whispered and the "nu" sound isn't one that people start words with. It's an "n" that goes at the end of words. The "nyu-" sound is more like "n-yu-" so either way that's two syllables; thank you for re-affirming what I said. Do you think Albert Einstein said "n-yu-ku?" Well he didn't. He said "nuke." And that's two syllables. Not three.

  • As a Gould fan I used to hate Chopin but they way she plays it let me like it!

  • elle est merveilleuse :x

  • The most interesting thing about King Charles the first

Is that he was 5 foot 6 inches tall at the start of his reign

But only 4 foot 8 inches tall at the end of it because of....

Can't listen to this without thinking about that Monty Python song...

  • Is it a mistake 5:33 ?

  • Martha i love you ! you'll always be the best pianist of all

  • Best pianist in the world!

  • Why does Yundi Li's performance of the Op. 9 no.2 nocturne have five times as many views as this??!?!?

  • @idiots2407 Well, that comment isn't nearly as smart or superior as you appear to think it is. It would be illogical to assume that - as a gay guy - his "genitals" played any part in his appreciation of Martha in this video. Sex ≠ sexuallity

  • and the crowd goes WILD!

  • Where's the bass drop?

  • @duckmann08 the first time she moves her left hand (bass clef); i. e. bar 1 note 1. idiot electrofag.

  • holy fuck this is good

  • In this day and age, I'd be normally expected to be listening to music's modern "great artists": Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, etc. But no, I'm abusing the replay button on this video. On real music. Bravo, Argerich!

  • A very passionate and fabulous performance of the Heroique; my favorite performance of this piece, by far, on YouTube. And if I may be so proud as to say, it reminds me so much of the way my mom used to play this, it's uncanny.

  • @das0448 As a matter of fact I do. I will be posting some videos very soon. I will be playing Chopin! :)

  • Martha at his best

  • @das0448 My friend, let me just say that I am very much glad you accepted my comment with sincerity. Do you play an instrument yourself?

  • My wonderful Marta...ahhh

Que mujer bela, que anjo sin equal....linda

  • She was SO SEXY.... it'a amazing how sexual her music and face is. And i'm gay

  • Martha Argerich is the most pianist in the world! She's splendid!

  • he escuchado la polonesa con muchos interpretes martha le inserta una emocion especial a la pieza

  • he escuchado la polonesa con muchos interpretes martha le inserta una emocion especial a la pieza

  • Técnica más pasión, igual a insuperable....

  • @juiceforjoe Rubinstein is better

  • @blisskiss23 No, different

  • How difficult is this piece? What kind of dedication required to learn this?

  • @1Jiller - Err, VERY difficult! What type of dedication you ask? HOURS upon HOURS a day for YEARS! I have a very good friend - a trained concert pianist (now the head of a Conservatorium of Music) who could not pull this off as well as Martha. (I should say in my friend's defence that she does do J.S. Bach some justice, though). If you are learning piano, keep at it - you won't be sorry, it's a very satisifing thing to be able to do!

  • Interesting: when the video starts (camera from behind) she is playing a Steinway, but the hands close up (0:10) she is playing a C.Bechstein, and all that with the same dress! Martha is for sure a magician.

  • I've never heard that kind of interpretation. its very "rigid", aggressive, uncompromising, exciting and electrifying. I like it

  • Martha is the best!!! I love this piece and she plays the part, which sounds like a cascade, like a goddess!!

  • It's a shame that many times I click on a Youtube link for some superb performance, like this one, and read hatred underneath the video window whilst listening to the music. I suppose great music will always attract debate but maybe I'm expecting too much in wishing that people would think before launching into childish criticism of genius-level talents like Argerich. She could play a Chopin work backwards and still made it sound musical :-) Music is more than the dots on the page!

  • @ThoughtGazeCarlos Just ignore idiots.... there's no point in discussing with them. Enjoy the music and share your passion with people that are able to comprehend it.

  • @ThoughtGazeCarlos So true!

  • She's one of my fave pianists of all time!!

  • not at all at her best here i think.

  • not at all at her best here i think.

  • so honest touch... She is genius!

  • It makes her happy to play the piano :)

  • I find the right hand harder to play

  • 0:52 = fail

    but I liked the video

  • @1Thompsonmusic an absolute joke of a comment. But thanks.

  • @1Thompsonmusic oh, I guess all the judges of the Chopin International Competition in Warsaw, where she won first pize in 1965, felt the same way...

  • @1Thompsonmusic LOL You're so obsessed with her, aren't you!? I see your comments on all of her videos, and they always have to do with her looks. I'm sensing a bit of a secret crush, maybe?

  • @mmoynan Unfair comment! Martha is a magical pianist :)

  • @36beachbum Lol what? I don't think my comment was unfair. He seriously is everywhere! And he's always hating on her and her looks. I think Martha is magical for her talent, not her beauty, so one has to say something. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @36beachbum Ahaha, it's okay! :)

  • @mmoynan You are right, I missed what he said exactly, he's nasty troll. Anyone saying bad things about Martha is a fool, to put mildly :)

  • My kind of woman; talented and beautiful.

  • She does Chopin brilliantly, always has.

Her style isn't as well suited to Rachmaninoff, I find.

  • I LOVE her smile at 5:30!

  • @Y3k666 Me too, the joy of making music!

  • @Y3k666 me to

  • @Y3k666 me too

  • she's so beautiful ^^!

  • This is by far the clearest most precise in tone and meaning of this piece ever done. Kudos to Ms. Argerich!

  • CHOPIN, C EST UNE BALLE QUI REBONDIT !!!

BRAVO , ELLE ELLE SAIT JOUER CHOPIN, ON L'ENTEND BIEN REBONDIR CETTE BALLE !!!

  • Excelente la musica y la interpretacion.!!

  • @TheDevoshka You should have seen her in the sixties. She wore mini-skirts then----yes sometimes in concert.

This is from the 1965 Chopin competition, which Martha won.

Martha is still going strong. She has a busier concert schedule than many half her age. She prefers chamber ensembles and concertos to solo recitals nowadays.

  • I don't understand if her piano is a Bechstein or a Steinway... Both names are written, on the front and on the side

  • @MrSofuckingLOL Actually it's two different pianos. The film is evidently edited.

  • @MrSofuckingLOL Maybe that piano is BechStainway :))))

  • @MrSofuckingLOL Maybe that piano is BechStainway :)))) Actually, if you look really attent in the beganing you can notice that this video is a montaje. While in the very begining you see bechstein mark, few seconds after you don´t see anymore :))
