"I didn't want to make a film with violence" then do some other film asshole jackson! this is the subject matter at hand. what raping and killing isn't violent? hello! The world is violent! and that's just the ugly truth! so tell it like it is ,and don't insult the audiences intelligence. Peter u Dick!
The parts of the book is how her family and friends deal with her death and how they move on and live without her. The affair is how the mother personally handles it. It's an ASHAME they took that out of it.
I'm just hoping that there will be an extended cut of the film released for home viewing, with all the deleted scenes incorperated back into the film... streaming perhaps... along with the theatrical version.
If they're not going to have a lot of the things from the book, then why not rename the title and let some other director do the work if its "too violent"
I'm sick of books being made into movies, especially if they leave so much things out.
I mean they dont even have the affair between Abigail and Len? What crap is that? Does she even leave in the movie> Does Lindsay even get engaged to Samuel?
I have a feeling I'm not going to be too happy with this movie either =[
It's the time. Usually movies run @ 2 1/2 hours max. If they turn it into a TV sereis, probably they can take all the things from the book. But again the budget & special efx quality are usually low on TV.
violence dealing with this sensitive subjet. in the book the 14 year old girl gets raped and murdered and her dismembered body is thrown into a sinkhole, I think that's what PJ meant when he said he didn't want to show any of that in the film.
It's one thing to describe such a thing in a book and it's another to show it on film. This isn't a slasher film, it's a crime-drama with fantasy elements in it.
But the gore in Bad Taste & Dead Alive is so over-the-top it's ridiculous, so much so it becomes a gag. Heavenly Creatures was violent, but even then, it's a lot more psychological than brutally explicit. If filmed, the violence The Lovely Bones would've turned off the audience PJ intended and probably would've over-shadowed the point of the rest of the film.

That was before he became a father and decided to make a film his daughter could "enjoy," because not filming the violence makes the idea of a 14 year old being attacked and killed more enjoyable.

I can't believe they took out the affair...
The parts of the book is how her family and friends deal with her death and how they move on and live without her. The affair is how the mother personally handles it. It's an ASHAME they took that out of it.
I hope they did justice to the movie..
