ello! it's prison.the corrupt gov has made a system that they with their "regulation"couldn't support, so now they hire private prisons to do the dirty work more efficiantly. most are not given a trial. they are blackmaled into taking pleas. look it up in many cases those who are charged w/crime get denied attorney because of low income guidlines and yet they can't afford private ones. basically if u work pt and mcdonalds they can deny you and then ur choice is pea or trial w/o representation

Instead of all those things required for a lethal injection just shoot them (a bullet costs waaaay less) 3. @Hellingame i was simply going to mcdonalds with afew friends about to get in my car when allthe sudden cops seen us pulled up started checking usand cuffin us theyhad dogs and like 10 squad cars i did not even know why i was arrested for4 days of being in jail and finally i was told armed robbery and home invasion a pizza lady got robbed around the area and they were looking for the people and right when we walked out and wasgeting in the car theystopped us real talki had to go to trial twice
@TheyUGLY the US incarcerates more of its population per capita than any developed country. there are hundreds of thousands of regulations, laws, local ordinances, and three strike penalties can send a poor person to prison for life for stealing a loaf of bread, not to mention all the innocent people incarcerated. look up the video "Graffiti tagger sentenced to 8 years in prison", a kid was sent to prison for eight years for grafitti. also, YOUR tax dollars pay for their expensive prison stay.

Best way to survive prison is to respect your family, yourself, your neighbours, be honest, work an honest job, pay your taxes, choose good honest people as friends, avoid drugs n too much booze, buy your ticket on the bus, and respect the law and the officers that uphold the law and then you'll never have to survive prison. because you will never ENTER one!
If it was in Mexico i would pay a couple of pesos and the security guard would let me out. If is a drug cartel they would send some fake officers and start shooting.
i think to save money n get less deaths in prison . they need to make a way to put the prisoner in a hibernation period where they stay asleep till they are free to go. but that will make it easy for them and they wont learn theyr lesson.soo its like a win win for both sides.

i did 5 years in a colorado state prison or second degree assault. honostly the best way to survive prison is number 1 . dont go. keep your shit together. second if you are in prison or going to prison mind your own buisness dont get mixed up in peoples shit and just do your time. get an education and get out.

i think its funny that the average prisoner serving a 20 year sentence is a little over a million dollars the average times someone is alive even thought there on death row.... 22 years so roughly lets just say 1.2 million $ per person on deathrow alone. i say make death penalty harder to get but make it instant no repeals just lynch em in the back

From someone that has been in prison, I can tell you that isolation for long periods of time does have an effect in your mental health. This is specially traumatic when you return to freedom because it takes a long time to get accustomed to being in a non violent environment or extreme isolation. This is what causes repeat offenders. This is TORTURE!!! and it needs to stop. There are other ways to punish people, this is inhumane.

Teas has the worse prisons in the United States. It also has the worse Death Row as far as Isolation and quality is concerned. On death row in Texas, they are fed rotten food and have to stay in their cells for 23 hours per day. Most states allow at least five hours of recreation on Death Row. Texas Prisons are known for their Gangs, rapes, theft, and even murder.

Also, it suggests that prisoners should not be afforded civil dignity. Remember Abu Ghraib? Also, Although rare, there are enlightened people who forgive their attackers, and wish them to recover, such as John Paul II did with his attacker. The current prison system is not effective, and is torture.

It's the way some people live. Some people live knowing that they will end-up back in prison. They don't mind. Personally I think prison is torture, but there is no other cost effective way to do it. We can't afford to pay social security, when we take care of that, then we can start worrying about prisons.

Right now, the costs of keeping people in prison far outweighs any modest program of Basic Income assistance, which I believe is the right of every person around the globe. i think its funny that the average prisoner serving a 20 year sentence is a little over a million dollars the average times someone is alive even thought there on death row.... 22 years so roughly lets just say 1.2 million $ per person on deathrow alone. i say make death penalty harder to get but make it instant no repeals just lynch em in the back

From someone that has been in prison, I can tell you that isolation for long periods of time does have an effect in your mental health. This is specially traumatic when you return to freedom because it takes a long time to get accustomed to being in a non violent environment or extreme isolation. This is what causes repeat offenders. This is TORTURE!!! and it needs to stop. There are other ways to punish people, this is inhumane.

Teas has the worse prisons in the United States. It also has the worse Death Row as far as Isolation and quality is concerned. On death row in Texas, they are fed rotten food and have to stay in their cells for 23 hours per day. Most states allow at least five hours of recreation on Death Row. Texas Prisons are known for their Gangs, rapes, theft, and even murder.

I was raised to have a "throw away the key" mentality. Then I was close friends with a max prison guard to years, and the stories I heard were inhuman. He told me they often allowed rape to happen. Nobody wants to change the system. It's barbaric.

Also, it suggests that prisoners should not be afforded civil dignity. Remember Abu Ghraib? Also, Although rare, there are enlightened people who forgive their attackers, and wish them to recover, such as John Paul II did with his attacker. The current prison system is not effective, and is torture.

It's the way some people live. Some people live knowing that they will end-up back in prison. They don't mind. Personally I think prison is torture, but there is no other cost effective way to do it. We can't afford to pay social security, when we take care of that, then we can start worrying about prisons.

Right now, the costs of keeping people in prison far outweighs any modest program of Basic Income assistance, which I believe is the right of every person around the globe. Also, if we could agree that to want to be in prison is indicative of having no options, perhaps even mental illness, we would want to correct that situation. Yes, it will be a tough challenge, but history shows that progress is possible.

It is a most significant challenge in the face of people who...perhaps...will never have the capacity to function in society again. I also believe that sending people to prison and throwing the key away (unless it's capital murder) is wrong. There would probably be less than half the prison population and a huge taxes generated by legally selling the Mexican cartels #1 selling drug, Marijuana, not coke or heroin. Just lock-up criminals.

I've often wondered how the US can possibly sustain the "war on drugs" since it obviously does not work...it would be better to take control of the sale of various drugs, collect the taxes, and put illegal drug cartels out of business...but also increasing opportunities by supporting the basics of a Quality of Life: Education, Health Care, Food and Shelter, etc. .. basic dignity is the way to combat drugs and crime.

@frankenstein04 China is not a very good example; they have over a 90% conviction rate, meaning that many innocent people are put into these "brutal prison" systems. Would you like to be one of them? You are correct that prison does not have to be luxurious. However, that is not the point. It is simply that much harder for people to re-enter society if they're constantly looking over their shoulder...that, with the stress of being put in an iron cage is simply beneath a rational society

In Canada, there is a higher % of Aboriginals incarcerated; there are ongoing issues of poverty, physical & sexual abuse, and depression. To lock up such individuals into a Darwinian Survival of the fittest situation is simply adding to the crime. We must be better than that... it does not mean being 'soft', it means being smart.

@crazyhorse1369 I hope you stay safe...as I've argued on this forum many times, I just don't think traditional prisons can be seen as effective anymore... that does not mean we let people go 'free', it just means we have to acknowledge the current system is not working, it is not effective, and it puts people at risk. Changing attitudes on this subject will be very challenging given how hard it is for other very simple, important changes in society, such as a right to healthcare / dignity.
