overall whats the best sim rig ? ive seen all of your reviews, i think you guys said that the obutto is the best? i dont know. because im also interested in getting the fanatec gt2 so hopefully you can tell me which is the best rig for the fanatec.
does anyone know if the g27 or g25 wheel ( and pedals and shifter) are included in this obutto pakage ( like playseats where you can buy steering wheel + seat ) and does the pakage include the 3 monitors???
she sounds so scripted though lol i think she needs to just talk like the guys..you know just have a laugh and take it like a normal convo. The gangi dude ..he sounds like the main dude of the company, he knows what he is doing.
just started watching the show; being a long time race sim fan, I just want to say a few things; it's nice to see that there's a show dedicated to sim racing, but it's just too commercial for those of us who prefer to make our own race sim equipment. Oh well, I guess it takes quite a bit of sponsorsihp to just keep the show going, so I am not complaining. Anyhow, the kind of stuff I would like to see more on the show is cool DIY stuff, like motion platforms and pedads and ffb wheels etc
Just wanted to say that I have the Obutto Cockpit and have a 32in. flat panel TV I use for a monitor and have no problems. Surprised to see them say there is no way. I never had a issue. I mean its moves a little if you just go and shake it bit never actually moves from the base.
Drifting is/should be very sim racing. The key is the environment you do it in, people drifiting elegantly in real sims like rFactor - you can't score it in the game, though at the end of the day, it's like figure skating it's about judges' appreciation. There should be a system to allow watchers to contribute to scoring for comps.
yay. a show with drifting. but grid is an arcade. and the nfs drifting sucks bad. if you want to learn drift techniques, you should look at the drift king's drift bible. but anyways, im glad you put drifting in a show.
a decent wheel like the Logitech DFGT should be fine if your looking for the cheapest way. Of course your experiance with a G25 or a nice Fanatec would be much better. There`s lots of games, i would recommend you LFS, and i guarante you will never return to WoW again ;)
ever considered training with the a.i. on single player? or maybe watching the world records for a hint on where to break and how to approach turns? if you'd come in and win every time you'd say it's too easy :)
hi srt crew I'm looking for a wheel that is around $50 and one that works until i can buy a really good quality one. Do oyu have any idea on a decent one for that much?
why u ain't give tips for Logitech G25 or Logitehch Momo...? these are the best wheels in the world...or one of them...but the Ferrari ... wheel. It seems like it is for kids...do u think thrustmaster is better then logitech...or what is ur oppinnion? which is the best one? race07 is much better then every other game which u show...iRacing is ... oMg,,,hello we got 2009 :D
rFactor...hey guys...I mean..I played rFactor. it wasn't a great job by the developer...graphics similar to Need For Speed 1..that's very cheap! I ain't got fun on a racing game if the graphic is suchlike low. oMg rFactor = PixelParty
if the game is perfected, then maybe...but till then...i hope for F1 2010 from Codemasters! GRID was/is awesome! i miss music in-game and Drag races. no drag races anymore? that's pathetic also :(
Great show guys. I got my first win in the iRacing Solstice too Darrin :-)
Jessica, I know you're probably sick of hearing stuff like this - but damn girl, I go weak at the knees whenever you're on screen. Some people just ooze sex appeal for reasons other than just their good looks and you sure are one of them.
Hey INSIDE SIM. I was just wondering I YOU guys have any information on the progress of the" FANATEC Porsche 911 Turbo S Wheel w/clubsport Pedals" shippment? I'm getting really worried because I cannot get a response fromthem by ANY means, email or phone. Also, anybody else in my boat?
hey im just curious which way to go rfactor lfs or i racing i dont have alot of time and want the best sim.thx oh and i dont care about having to pay for i racing thx
Well i played LFS and iracing. If you dont mind paying for it, iracing is the most streamlined service overall. Driving in general is a lot safer / fairer, competition is very hard with people like Dale Jr competing regularly, and some old simracing legends like Greger Hutu and Richard Towler. The license system makes sure you dont find any real newbies in the better cars and the overall community is great. Especially on the oval side of things its amazing, and i personally love the road racing.
Great tech tips segment, Shaun. That's exactly what I'm looking for -- more info on getting started. Specifically, what to expect when I click on the lobby/server in LFS or rFactor. Thanks!
I'm curious have you guys heard much about the new Need For Speed game? It's being developed by a lot of the people who did GTR1-2 and without assists it's supposed to be even more realistic than GTR2, apparently they've gotten the guy who did the physics engine on Richard Burn's Rally to redesign their engine.
the company thats continuing the NFS series killed the last 3 years of that grat name title....to say a good nfs game comming out is like asking will they bring back the MC RIB at mcdonalds.
A new video was posted on the NFS site of some gameplay footage recently and I have to say, the gameplay looks more arcade than sim to me. The perception of speed is way too high when compared to rFactor, LFS, iRacing etc.
This video has dashed my hopes of actually receiving a decent sim from EA although I will see what SRT has to say about it.
It would seem, sadly, that SMS (aka Blimey) have been made to bow down to the mighty dollar (ie, Electronic Arts money men) :(
These videos are obviously with assists on. It looks no different gameplay wise than GTR2 or Race 07 with the assists jacked up. Only with motion blur and all of this making it seem like you're going faster than you really are.
I really enjoy this show, but you really should break these things into segments. Like...segment with Jessica Lopez...segment with stuff on Sim Racing...segment on tech tips and segment on non-sim racing stuff so you don't have to sit through stuff like the drifting segment to get to excellent useful stuff.
I love the show and especially Jessica Lopez in somewhat revealing outfits and the tech tips, but at 40 mins with no real way to fast forward, breaking it into segments would really help.
In response to paying for mods, when I was doing a lot of real world flying I used FS with downloads to train and they were very affordable. >>I have asked a lot of questions and you guys are a great source of info. I just ordered rfactor and won a MOMO steering wheel on ebay so Im gettin rdy to jump in. I do not hv a good enuf intrnet connection yet but Ill get there (eventually). Any advice on training, etc? The goal is Formula 1, the reality is train, train, train. Again, thanks!!!
I know its not the best place to post this but, there is a common talk among sim racers that say rFactor2 will also come with mods from different independent teams that will require payment. So is this true? I'm asking you guys because you had an interview with Gjon Camaj and you might have gotten some inside facts about it. Will this affect the sim community and could this be the end of free mods? And will rF2 adopt the same "pay to play" politic like iRacing?
We haven't heard of a pay to play service, but we do know that there's something happening to where mods will be paid for.. We're all for it ! Modders should be paid for their hard work.
The flight sim community has been that way forever.
Lets hope prices don't go up the roof. I'm up to support modders, but i'm not sure if it will be welcomed by most of the rFactor community. I really don't want to see rF2 go down because of this and what seems to become an expensive hobby for most of us. Worst case scenario is that sim racing will become affordable only to the wealthy or the very passionate simers willing to pay, no matter the cost. Reducing drastically the numbers in the community.
I also play X-Plane on a regular basis. X-Plane is a sim that is almost entirely made up of user created planes, scenery etc. and rFactor reminds of X-Plane in that sense.
The difference is that the best planes in X-Plane you have to pay for. Not a huge amount, normally between $5 and $10. I can say with certainty, that, in general, modders who are paid for their work make the best mods and really spend the time to get it right.
Don't let paying for mods put you off, rF 2 will be awesome :)
But in the end I think I have decided to make my own custom rig. I went to the scrappy and got myself a nice, comfy leather bucket seat from an alfa romeo. I am working on the plans now. Now I have my GT3RS its the best time to get everthing right :)
Great show as always. Been looking forward to your review of the Obutto as I league race GT Cars in GTR2 with Gamers Crib and think a proper rig would help my performance.
Shame it's still not available in the UK. Think from memory there's a problem with the package size for shipping. Don't know if they could split into two separate parcels to get round the issue but if they could get this sorted I'm sure they sell a shed load in the UK. Anyway, thanks again for a great show.
Okay I can't add the url because youtube doesn't allow it apparently, but just google "Vehicle Handling and Performance Analyser" and you will find it :)
I really liked the tech segment addressing beginners. I want to get started but my only internet is thru a usb modem... is that good enuf for iracing? Do you have an episode that is nothing but for beginners and talks about the tech end as well as driving? Again, thanks for a great show.
I take it that's a 56kbps USB modem you have? I would strongly advise you to get a broadband 5Mbps connection or faster before attempting ANY online gaming, including sim racing. Sorry, but you will have huge lag problems and this also makes things difficult for others when your car suddenly jumps from one part of the track to another without warning.
Awsome shows guys and gals! Been in a few race's with Shawn and Darin on iRacing, btw, you guys are hauling in the spec racer. Andrea! Awsome job, wish my wife would try racing online, she says she gets to nervous. !
Is it possible you might be able to get the scoop on the new Need for Speed "Shift" title? It's being developed jointly by Slightly Mad Studios, comprising all of the staff from the former Blimey studio of of course developed the legendary GTR2! It might be the first Live for Speed title actually worth Sim Racers' time. :)
So far, they've only posted a few screenshots and a quick vid but you guys might be able to get a sneak peak ;)
the sad thing is the videos for shift still look extremely arcadey and even worse they appear to be in cityesque arcade tracks.
Doesn't matter how many former simbin employees they have... as long as EA is in control, I would count on a great sim. What other console sims does ea have to their credit?
Another great show, thank you guys. And yay, I won something!
For the Obutto rig, I can't really agree with you guys on the "wiggle" con. I have an O-butt-o...(didn't realize it was pronounced like that) and the flex that it has really isn't noticeable when you're racing. It is only noticeable when you push hard on the trays. The tubing is really thick and it is pretty sturdy overall, and can hold up tons of abuse. A pro you can also mention is Chris' excellent 1-1 customer support.
Think you need to go into more detail with drifting such as setups. also whats up with the Logitech G25 all slack and no tension going down the straights... feel unreal in rfactor and LFS.
Sim Racing show right? So it should be about sim racing... if you start your show out with "i know it's not sim racing but there's a big blah blah blah" then your show is already uninteresting. There's a great big GTA4 following too, there's cars in that game, you wanna review too since it's not sim racing?
drifting originated as the fastest way around corners through the mountains in japan, style and points came later. also that pendulum technique is called the scandinavian flick
Great episode. Hope you keep these coming. I really appreciate the sim rig/frame segment. I have the Bob Earl Racing VRC frame and like it, but always keeping a look out for the next level up. Jessica & Andrea, looking good as always.
yeah, i'm a bit dissapointed w/ the choice of drift clips haha. but overall the segment was good. there's lots of great drifting highlights for LFS that are miles above what are shown. same for gran turismo :p
yeea that wouldve be good idea to start with easyer cars instead of f1 :P
but was that truck series in rfacor if was i think i should try it! and drifting sure is cool but hard but keep practising with that too ty for pointing it out too :P
Obutto looks perfect for my console racing needs (it would be facing a projector so I wouldn't even need the monitor and keyboard trays). But the shipping costs to Canada...insane. In fact, I could probably drive to Seattle to pick it up and save over $100 for shipping. As always, great episode. Look forward to the one covering FOV.

Hey all,
Just wanted to point out the Vehicle Handling and Performance Analyser (VHPA) by Ben Ponsford.
It simulates how changes to a cars' setup will effect it's handling and is really useful for sim racers to help us fine tune.
It is free :) (although feel free to donate if you like it ;) ) and can be downloaded from
It's all very well using someone elses setup, but unless you have an identical driving style you will need to tweak it.

Sorry, I meant...
"the first NEED for Speed title worth Sim Racers' time"...
St1n9 2 years ago
the sad thing is the videos for shift still look extremely arcadey and even worse they appear to be in cityesque arcade tracks.
Doesn't matter how many former simbin employees they have... as long as EA is in control, I would count on a great sim. What other console sims does ea have to their credit?

oops... I mean "wouldn't count on a great sim."

I admit, even though Blimey is on it, Im skeptical.. Hopefully we'll give you a first hand look next week at E3 !

And word on Forza Motorsport 3?

If possible, go into more detail about racing etiquette next time (maybe even do a separate/tutorial video)
You missed out on mentioning some basic fundamentals of clean racing like following a racing line; clean/safe passing; blocking, etc.
It would be great if there was a single, all encompassing video we could point beginners to so they could learn what racing etiquette is.

It would probably work better if you borrowed other people's drifting footage because Shaun's was pretty poor.
TSSdrifting 2 years ago
Think you need to go into more detail with drifting such as setups. also whats up with the Logitech G25 all slack and no tension going down the straights... feel unreal in rfactor and LFS.
Great show tho guys and gurls, keep it up.

Sim Racing show right? So it should be about sim racing... if you start your show out with "i know it's not sim racing but there's a big blah blah blah" then your show is already uninteresting. There's a great big GTA4 following too, there's cars in that game, you wanna review too since it's not sim racing?

thank you very much for the drifting section!!

drifting originated as the fastest way around corners through the mountains in japan, style and points came later. also that pendulum technique is called the scandinavian flick

Forgot to add, great commercial on energy drinks! Something all sim fans can probably relate to!

Great episode. Hope you keep these coming. I really appreciate the sim rig/frame segment. I have the Bob Earl Racing VRC frame and like it, but always keeping a look out for the next level up. Jessica & Andrea, looking good as always.

6:30 Oh come on, you could've taken a better sample of LFS drifting :(
n1Erik 2 years ago 5
yeah, i'm a bit dissapointed w/ the choice of drift clips haha. but overall the segment was good. there's lots of great drifting highlights for LFS that are miles above what are shown. same for gran turismo :p

You guys take online racing way to serious, no wonder Andreea got intimidated.
You all need a smoke before doing any filming or racing.
