  • @eireeni you'll love again, i'm pretty sure you will and you know that too. to be loved and to love is the only thing worth dying for.

  • Many loves, and many kinds...I've loved this song since 1977, college in Kansas (dust in the wind) and apply it to a few I will always love in this world. They know who they are. xxx

  • "And yes i know how lonely life can be

The shadows follow me and the night won't set me free

But i won't let the evening get me down

    Now you're around me."

This song is so touching! It brings tears to my eyes whenever i hear it.

  • I love you babe.. i always cry at this song.. :( you are the best thing that ever happened.

  • ;;;;___;;;;

  • for me the song is mostly "and yes, I know, how lonely life can be, the shaddows follow me, and the night won't set me free". As deep as can be.

  • @harel10 Me too. Beautiful.

  • Very Beautiful

  • an all time favorite since time immemorial...love the song and don is an idol..thanks for posting this..Blessings!

  • Perry or Don this is still a beautiful song. Imagine, a song that can be appreciated by people generations apart. 6 of one a half dozen of the other.

  • I love you so much, i miss you every single night, miss your kiss, miss your hug......but u never cherish me and hurt me, i dont know to hate you coz i love you.

  • So sensitive it hurts.

  • for my L.. for everything. I am yours~

  • This gives me goose bumps....and makes me realise just how much I love my man x x x x

  • i learned to love this song when i fell in love with a beautiful girl in high school i grew my own in our garden just for her it's been 29 years and am still in love with her how irrational it is when your heart is over your mind

  • To my late wife, miss you and I love you so....

  • Awesome...I like Como's version better, but awesome.

  • sometimes the most beautiful songs arent the most popular ones

  • @ccyization always..actually..

  • @ccyization That's true but this is a very well known song.

  • This is such a moving and haunting song.Wish I would know a love like that someday before it's too late.

  • I thank God that I found love......or if you believe in a higher power ....arrived here. We have a son, we lost a daughter. But we are ok. Happy Holidays everyone!

  • best song i have ever heard

  • Life began again the day you took my hand ...

  • it makes me feel hopeful, sad, happy,

  • Ahh! The best version of this song! Sung as something of a lament. It's been years since I have heard this.

  • I want this to be my wedding song!!

  • I am in love with the song, It makes me feel the love.

  • LJW: for Us. In dark and light, sorrow and joy.. I am Yours. M

  • not the original...early fifties perry como was originaL

  • @bobbyp719 No this IS the original. Don McLean wrote it. It was on his 1970 debut album Tapesty( released a year before Carole King's huge same titled album). Never released as a single(AFAIK). Perry Como covered it in 1973, and had a huge hit with it.

I can see why you THOUGHT Perry's version was from the fifties, I did too, for a long time. That style of music(easy listening) being a hit was unusual in the early seventies

  • @cmulwee001 thanks for the info!

  • @diablemarin

Your welcome. I like Perry's too, but the original version heard here, is TOPS!

  • @bobbyp719 LOL!

  • @bobbyp719 Perry goes back that far but the song, Don's song, doesn't. You're off by about 2 decades

  • not the original...early fifties perry como was originL

  • @bobbyp719... written by Don McLean, recorded by Perry Como in '73

  • @bobbyp719 .............written by Don McLean, recorded by Perry Como in '73

  • @chrismaginnissabc

Not only written by Don McLean, but first recorded by him as well. This is the original version, predating Perry Como's by three years. Elvis also did a version, but I'm not sure if his came before or after Perry's.

  • I loved her so but she didn't love me back. :(

  • The original and the best version ...

  • God Bless Don McLean For Writing & Recording This Song. I sure wish these kinds of songs were the norm today.... I might also add that Don's "Castles In The Air" is a awesome performance as well. I wish I knew how to Obtain a recording of Don's "Eventually". These songs simply make the world a greater place.

    DanO

  • yes don wrote music, elvis didn't, and don actually played his instrument. Don blows elvis and roy away. I wouldn't even want to hear elvis ruin it.

  • oh, how lovely. haven't heard this in years. He was special, as is the song. Thank you.

-oh gash! it's so romantic! good luck for you!

  • My wedding song also. Thirteen years this June. My brother & I usually sang this together but he sang it alone at my wedding. Married for the first (and last!) time at age 38 - all my schoolteacher colleagues were sniffling in the background on my wedding video! Great memories of this song. Love you, Don McLean.

  • gypsies dance, monkeys' stalk

  • velvet vocals with a silken message

  • i realy lije this song in fact this is our soundtrack of my honey......much respect mr.don mclean.........

  • And I love you so. People ask me how. How I've lived 'till now. I tell them... I don't know!... :'(

  • A beautiful version

  • I think the song "killing me softly "

    Written about Don McLean!

  • @ivorybacon Yes, it was. ;-)

  • @ivorybacon

Correct. Lori Lieberman, a young folk singer songwriter saw Don In Concert

and wrote a rough draft of the song on a napkin. Gimbel and Fox set Lieberman's words to music. Lieberman recorded KMS on her self titled debut album. Roberta Flack covered the song and had a huge hit, though, to, me Lori's original was much better

  • This song means so much to me right now. I love the way Don can sing my life whenever he wants to.

  • i'll dedicate this wonderful song to my elem. classmate'77- "piper", shes also my crush back then...

  • Perry Como may have been the one to have a hit with this song and I like it, but it can't compare to this original. Likewise Roberta Flack's R&B cover of "Killing Me Softly",though a huge hit, is no match for Lori Lieberman's original folk song.

  • @cmulwee001 This version is far better than by Perry Como who made #3 in 1973 in UK while Don McLean never made the charts. It's a shame :-(

  • Beautiful

  • This is my favorite song in the world!

    It's so beautiful.

  • most romantic song ever... i love perry como's version too, but this simply perfect...

  • this song is for this guy that loves me so much- i love you too wilson... i hope you see this...

  • Well, make sure he does, Scarlett, silly.

  • of course i did!

  • This is the most beautiful lovesong I ever listened to.

  • what's more to hear? this song's worth the touch for a broken heart

  • i still love u jinu...no matter what...even if u forget me...

  • yeah... i wondered too...the thing is ppl like to enjoy the popular stuffs mostly..! but let it remain as a hidden gem...

  • I'm interested!

  • Sorry, I don't understand. Perry Como's version - of Don's hit - has 644,000 + hits. Vincent has 1. 4 million hits. Don doing Castles in the Air has 53 thousand frigging hits. This song is absolutely beautiful and nobody is interested? I think that speaks to a societal dysfunction.

  • Don't worry - we're out here - I've been on this particular song since I bought a 2 CD set in 2001. Don't let the dysfunction get you down - same goes for Madonna going American Pie - just have to keep refocusing away from the garbage pails/stench and back to the flowers - they're out there.

  • Thanks, Mel. I needed that.

  • I agree so much, we've lost touch with the eniffable beautiful, that only comes so rarely, like this. This is the essence and heartbeat of true human emotion and feeling. It's Divinity by Grace in what can only be described as authentic expression.

  • I´m sure there are millions out there whose feelings are being represented by this song, and that includes mine. The others are simpy not aware yet that it plays in youtube.

  • First verse - I love you. Second verse - you love me. As a perfect life would be, but is for so few.

  • This song reminds me of The Picture of Dorian Gray for some reason , and the Situation that goes on between Sibyl Vane and Dorian Gray

  • Such an amazing song. One of the best singer/songwriters I have ever heard. Very inspirational.

  • AMaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing! Meravigliosa, struggente, bellissima...

  • He was the his in Roberta Flack's Killing Me Softly with "his" song

  • This song reminds me to the one who I loves him so much but we can't get along together as we have wanted,,,,,and he played this song for me....why do I love him so much till I can't forget him.....I love you till I die.

  • Don Mclean is a great musician, one of the few that can give me chills!

  • Well, no surprise. He "killed" Roberta Flack. (Can't stay away from here - sorry.)

  • What do you mean? Im lost...

  • Just watched Don live, then Perry Como. This is the best. What seperates this from the other 10,000,000 love songs, it just occured to me, is the 2nd verse - "and you love me too.." How complete & full a sentiment.

  • That is a very profound observation. I couldn't agree more. I'm sorry to say that I have never been able to repeat that sentiment.

  • No school like the old school.

  • It's so beautiful and well written and sung. Somehow it always makes me cry.

  • This was our wedding song, 28 years ago. We are still in love and smile whenever we hear this song.

  • congradulations...

  • @tccurl

Was it this version, or the remake by Perry Como?

  • @cmulwee001 this version

  • @tccurl

Great! This is the best version of all!

  • This is one of those songs that are like good wine...they just seem to keep better and better as time goes by...Beautiful melody and deep, rich lyrics...Thank you!

  • BEAUTIFUL! I love this song and Don McLean. He is such an amazing singer.

  • This song is beautiful beyond words. Thank you.

  • beautiful how i wish i could tell it to you

  • such a beautiful song that only Mclean can perform this well
