Not to bash Alienware or anything - I'm sure they make fine desktops - but I bought a notebook 1 1/2 years ago ($2500), and it won't work for 5 minutes until it overheats and dies. I sent it in 2 months after I bought it, and Alienware denies my request to repair it...

So yeah, no more Alienware for me, too worried I'm going to get a computer half-DOA :(

I've repaired a few Alienware desktops recently. Nothing special, stock components put into a fancy ( IMO fugly ) casing and a considerable price premium added.

One can build a totally custom gaming rig in a casing of ones own choice, for roughly half the price that Alienware ( Dell ) charges for one of it's machines.

We had an Alienware workstation in our Research Laboratory. The thing would just NOT work. Had to send it back to Alienware continuously. For $6000+ I was hoping for a better system. So far, for the last 3 yrs, we've been able to use the machine for a couple of months, because that's ALL we've had it for. It's been at Alienware the remainder of the time being fixed/repaired. While I'm sure their products are fine, we got seriously burned on that purchase. Won't buy again.

Alienware rules. Its true that you can buy that config cheaper but its about what you need, like and can afford. It has always been my some kind of wish to have one and soon ill be able to buy one.
