@PlaYBoI23237 I used Adobe Premiere CS3 to edit, I had to use another program to convert the files into huge avi files that CS3 could play in real time that is why CS3 is garbage. Get CS5 it cuts native files from t1i, t2i, 7d, 5d no need to convert and it exports the footage to whatever you want.
T1i was all that was available to me at the time didn't have manual control so I had to twist the lens off the sensors at certain apertures to prevent auto aperture/shutter speed... if you're buying now (in order of price) T2i, 7D, 5MDII are the way to go. 16-35 is a great lens, but if you want more range get the 17-55mm IS, a little more affordable, more range but only very slightly softer.
Very good. The T1i really did an awesome job. I like the hand held shake to add to the first person reality. The 16-35 is starting to look like a good idea.
@fatf thanks and I do agree some angles were a little off, that stemmed from holding the camera for long periods of time in the freezing cold until my hands were numb. It was important to have the movie set in the dead of winter to show the desperate situation of survival. Unfortunately I also had to shoot in those conditions myself but did my best :)
I love how you use sound to create tension. The way you let the audience hear the danger coming instead of showing it, like the tanks and airplanes for instance, makes it that much more suspenseful. I'll have to use this technique in my films. Very nice short film overall. The only thing, the German soldier using an air rifle kind of made it look cheesy...but overall good work.
@Droege1001 thanks. It's funny but that came out of necessity. I always wanted to make a war film, but didn't have the budget for it, so I had to find a creative way of making it. Limitations like this can force you into solutions that end up being more effective. When Spielberg made "Jaws" the only reason he had that cool POV shots of the shark swimming up to a pair of legs was because the mechanical shark that was supposed to be in the scene was malfunctioning, so they had to shoot without it.
That was very good, i like the cliffhanger at the end where you see his foot moving and him brething but the kid is waling away oblivious its gripping and and emotion film. great job i am buying this camera in a month and i love what you did with it. Keep it up tom
@iSnowboard1234 thanks. It's difficult to cast younger actors in films, but I was pretty lucky with Chris, he was very patient, followed directions well and just did a great job. Children have less inhibitions and keep shit simple because their heads are not cluttered with years of training :)
@tomsokalski I actually just bought the canon T1i and I will be purchasing a Zoom H2 mic instead of a boom mic. is either one better than the other? the boom mic is 100-10,000Hz and -45db around $45... I think i would be better off with the digital Zoom H2. What you think?
@1mrbunziii I have both the zoom and a boom with a shotgun mic - it depends what you want to use it for, Shotguns are more directional in recording sound so that you can more easily single out a source whereas the zoom alone, is more omnidirectional - which is good for ambiance but difficult for dialogue. If you have the zoom and are no satisfied, you can still get a shotgun mic to attach to the zoom anytime :)
@lacop I grew up on those and always in black and white because we only had a black and white television - now I have a nostalgia for dark, depressing, polish language, black and white films... that's probably why I made this :)
@88Panzerfaust I collected the artillery and plane sounds from a database of sounds at my university. I went through a lot of files to find the right ones, high quality recordings which sounded organic so that they would blend in with the sound of the film.
Sensitively directed and beautifully shot film with excellent acting. I liked it very much. Very few dialog was most appropriate ..it enhanced the visual effect.
@kaysthe1 thanks, I felt the same way when my grandparents told me stories about living through the war. I was afraid I wouldn't do those stories justice and it would come off silly, but did my best to keep the tone serious.
This was great! Sad ending, but then I got confused when I saw the dad's leg move.
I have the same camera. What do you use for audio?

Very late to this post. Very gutsy work. The bottom line is that it just works. Affects you unexpectedly... Was glad to have seen it.

one of the better DSLR movies i've seen. Acters where really good, but some of the camera angles where kinda "of" in my opinion. Great job though:)

How did you reduce the background noise ( wind air sound )
TRUEULTRAVIOLENCE 1 year ago
@TRUEULTRAVIOLENCE I didn't reduce any background noise - in fact I added the wind ambiance in post production.

@thatniggbeme7 wasn't mine, was borrowed, so not sure if I remember correctly, it was a canon luxury lens f2.8 16-35 I believe.
