It's really sad man.....It's sad that people...Excuse me BLACK people, would post the negative comments on here!!! I mean to call these brotha's ugly niggas?? Are u serious??? When does this %$#@ end man!!! These were beautiful black people and more important a beautiful black time!! I mean seriously folks.....R.I.P Don C!!
Daryl Lamont and MJ were around the same age(12) when this song came out. MJ was the better overall performer, but he cannot touch Daryl in singing...Near the end of the longer version of this song is where Daryl really shits on MJ in singing. Too bad Daryl's career was cut short... R.I.P. MJ
@gmccall22 Dancing, flash, etc doesn't really matter to me unless I'm at a concert lol! The difference is not everyone has a powerful machine like Motown behind them. Anyhow I wonder what became of this Daryl child with that beautiful voice.
Let's stopping going in on what the brothas look like, that's why songs like this aren't being made nowadays... Too worried about unimportant things, other than LOVE! This song is the ish!
Great classic love song! Forget the negative comments! Props to the Brother's for using their talents to do something positive! Don't know where they came from but if they came from Inner City America you can bet they came through some "mess". Good job of rising above it and providing something people still enjoy almost 40 yrs later! What have you "haters" done?
Why all the hatin' on the brothers? This is a beautiful song. And as for being ugly, neither one of these young men made themselves. They are God's children. God made them. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
WOW!! Whoever she was she had dude sprung...." I not only want you Baby, but I need you. And the need is so strong it's almost like that of a junkie" Talk about the illest na na! Thanks for posting ALL these years I thought that was a girl group singing backround who knew it was a 12 yr old boy at the time. I wanna know what he know about the love jones! LOL! Sounds so good...stuck on repeat!!
@HeartReader and OGRUBOY... Something for the record, I am the younger generation that followed in your footsteps. You NEVER lay your "jacket" down, you are in it 4 life! However, you can simply stop being "active".... One love!
@hoopbone1 I hear where you coming from. Never forgot the foundations. I am glad you are still alive to even get at me on here. May of the homies didn't make it. Embrace the day as if it is your last and enjoy music like this. I will never dismiss the set because it helped to make me whom I am today. As the greatest book ever written said" When I was a child I did childish things, but when I become a Man, I put childish things behind me" (The Holy Bible). One Love to You, My Brother 4 life!
Damn what they look like...this is a deep, too deep classic song that describes a young man's fascination for his girlfriend...forever classic love song...give The Brighter Side Of Darkness credit; a dynamic hit, regardless if they weren't as poplar as the Jackson 5.
They look just like the Jackson 5 hear in this video hear 24/7 when they was real youngster then!!!!!. But I love this video too when I was a little kid then!!!!!
The memories that creep up on me as I hear this song are ridiculous! What a great time I had back then. Life was oh so exciting. Still loving life to this day and especially with Jesus Chirist as my personal Lord and Savior.
Recently saw this episode on the Best of Soul Train DVD set. Too young to remember this group, although this track is amazing. Too bad this group didn't go further. They had talent. Sounds like producer Maurice Starr of New Edition and New Kids on the Block fame stole this rhythm for Perfect Gentleman's 1990 song "Oh La La".
This song was one of the greatest songs of the early 70's. I remember the noon dances back at Locke HS in South Central. Pulling a honey close and slow grinding was a treat back then. Took a brother temporarily away from Cripping for a minute of peace without being shot at, and scrapping. Thanks for putting this one on here to bring back memories of long lost ladies of the past and friends that are no longer here. This is one for the homies like Big Tookie that didn't make it.
@sierria64 ..... I was with the Locke Saints Class of 1974. Left and Joined the Army in April 1974 after finishing. Stayed in Army from 1974-2002. Hey, remember how it went... LOCKE SAINTS, IT'S SO HARD TO BE A LOCKE SAINT! Cali rules. Most good things and for real people come and were raised in the hood and this type of music at the house parties back in the day, made life more bearable when were weren't hearing gunshots and dodging bullets claiming land that wasn't even ours. Praise God 4 life
@HeartReader57.... I'm feelin a guy on that...came from centennial in the mid seventies so you and i know how it was then...this type of music kept us from going off the deep end...we're here...even though we were in opposing gangs peace always my brother
@OGRuBoy ..... I hear you talking. I used to work at the Golden Bird Chicken place across the street from Centennial. As for being enemies. I was once a Denver Lane who went by the name COWBOY at one time b4 I fell out with them ova a girl. I knew Puddin and Tamm. I used to hang in Luders park here and there and date a girl by the name of Debbie Hardin. For the Record, RU's were once CRIPS for a short period of time when Raymond Washington got them to convert. Keep ya head up my Brother!
@HeartReader57.....Did you know a brother by the name of Darnell Durrah. He used to be RU off Piru Street back in the day. I knew Athens Park Boys, Bounty Hunters, Wallnuts (long defunct), Outlaws, Pueblos, Grew up with Swans off 84th and Main. Knew Van Brims from Crenshaw HS (Ralph Kelly) back in the day. Glad you survived Brother. Don't forget "People Make the World Go Round", Spell On my Mind, Wish I could talk to You, In the Rain. That was all non cursing music from a great era. the 1970's/
@HeartReader57...Tamm and Puttin! you going back my brother!!...Tamm got killed in a drive by I think in 1978 or 79? you probably knew lil vince and ralph carter too...I was a bounty hunter in nickerson gardens for minute...til they killed a good friend...the trauma we went through huh! I remember Tookie coming up to centennials campus one day with his signature violin case...I'm glad to here from someone that knows what it was like back then...I live in virginia..different life now.
@OGRuBoy ... Read my comment from 2 hours ago it was directed toward you but ended up on my own post. God is good and looked out for us back in the day from gangbanging even when we were young. I knew a cat named Kenny that was a Bounty Hunter that had one of those old HUD summer jobs with me back in '72. He was a bounty Hunter. YOU KNOW WHAT? I ALSO live in Virginia (Alexandria) - LOL. What are the odds that two old gangsters would end up here in VA. Hit me up. My number is 703-309-0285. WOW!
i grew up with this song! and this is the first time ive ever seen this group...i have this song on cassette also...thanks for posting!
