  • wow you guys were really neat, there was nothing but slobs when i lived there and getting them to clean was just exasperating

  • lol. Looks like paradise compared to the quarters that we had at the Lakeview in 1958!

  • I lived in this room before too!

  • It looks like a palace compared to what I lived in when I was a chambermaid at the Lakeview in 1958. We lived in a wing along the side street. There were 3 of us chambermaids in one room; rough board floors, no closet. As employees of the hotel we got our room & board "free." There were a few other rooms up there too which were rented out to girls. One bathroom down the hall, a sitting room, no kitchen. Mrs. Cable cooked our meals & we ate in the kitchen below.

  • I grew up on Mackinac and have been in and out of that store more times than I can count, but I had never seen the upstairs. Neat.

  • How much is it to rent that bunkbed that is vacant

  • I'm no longer living there as an employee, but you can ask for Frank Doud as he is the owner of the housing units. It's usually only for Doud employees, and they do not generally rent to outside workers, but they might as it's winter... I believe my rent was $85 a week, $20 of that being a refunded deposit.

  • I'd recommend looking into Mapleview Manor (it's right off of Mainstreet leading into Mission Point), one of the few boarding houses on the island for workers that isn't 'attached' to a specific employment group. I think rent weekly there was about $55, which is comparatively cheap for the Island. Good luck with housing!
