Good thing you let him go, they really don`t last long in captivity unless under very special surcumstances. Its a blessed day indeed , the Native Amercians believe they are magical and the name means ~joyous one~ so mabe it was an omen to look a little closer at the little joys in your life you may be missing something :)
i tried saving 2 birds on the street but they ended up dieing but i gave them the right food and water but i guess they were injured, anyway thats nice of u to save it
I just rescued a baby humming birds that my cats were playing with...hes not alot injured he just has a broken wing and cant fly..im not sure what to do..Any advice..Please help..And where can you buy nectar?
@Hyberpsycrow somehow humming birds are just not scared of us. I think they know they are fast little bastards w/ sharp beaks and aren't threatened by our slow movements and quiet talking. lol
It is so great that you helped him and let him go. So many people would have tried to keep wild birds that they find. It is a very selfish act, though usually they mean well.. You're awesome! Makes me happy that at least SOME people here on youtube that post videos of wild birds they find don't excessively touch/coo/pet/talk to it, scaring the shit out of it.
There's a market next to my house that sells nectar for humming birds. You have to shake a bag of the pink powder in 200ml of filtered water till it become pinky and transparent. It says it protects the hummer's health, and they love it! in 3 days they drink everything.. Love them!
same thing happened to me with a turtle. I had it since it was tiny after a few years it got pretty big so i took it to the lake to let him go. he would swim away for 10-15 mins then come right back. id rub his head then put him back and he just kept doing it until i left.
Technically, helping a hummingbird for a few hours doesn't make it your 'pet'. If you had kept the hummingbird, and had it live with you for a while, then the word 'pet' would apply.
@mermaidamp One of these days I'll post a video of my cat watching the hummingbirds fly around my feeder. He makes bizarre sounds and chatters his teeth. Its cute but of course he wants to eat them. Good thing he's an inside cat.
I would have kept him/her, he/she is ADORABLE, sweet self. Fed him/her sugar water and nectar, kept him in a large cage so he wouldn't get hurt, but let him be free when I'm awake. So precious. It's so sweet he/she was so attached, and almost saddening he kept coming back instead of going into the wild again. I think he loved you. So damn cute.
AMAZING!!!! i love these birds! they always come to feed on the canna lilies i plant for them! how beautiful the gratitude he showed you by flying back to you...Thank you for saving a life.
Thank you for helping that little bird. Made me cry. I hope that someone is that kind to you one day. He really trusts you, he knew you had a kind heart.
They're the most adorable birds, they are sociable and love to be near humans, they don't get scared easily and when you talk tot hem they stan still and look at you at the eyes, I know this because my mom speaks to them and sometimes they even fly around her and make special noises for her, I love them and I think that they're the cutest birds outthere and they're quite clever too, but they're also very territorial and when they fight it's terrible, once one died after a fight in my garden :(
@Clutzii It doesn't necessarly mean that it hers. Some animals grow attached to people very quickly out of the goodness they do. This one just wanted to show her that it was thankful for her help since it can't speak English and say, "Oh thank you very much kind person." Lol. But I could look at that bird and see that it was thankful. =)

@theafrodude22 Sorry to correct you but it is 4 water to 1 sugar - in other words: 1 cup of water takes 1/4 cup of sugar or 4 cups of water take 1 cup of sugar. The other way around you'd have a sticky mess :)
Well you answered that alot better than my google search! I did see you had already answered! 10 year's for one's living off feeders? WOW, that is impressive!!! Thanks for the info!
I'm not sure let me google.... I got 3-4 year's!!!!!! Can you belive that? What's cool is that they will return to your feeder year after year (so I've been told, so I guess I should have known they could live for at least a few years!) Also been told their offspring will come to your feeders as well.
i found a baby hummingbird with a broken wing. I took it in and nursed it back to health. I let it go twice and it came back, it would chirp at my back door, and then fly up and land on my head when it got hungry. so i showed it how to feed at the hb feeder, and it came back, landed on my head to say thanks, and then flew off. I see it at the feeder once in awhile still. They are so cool, and smart too.
Wow, that was very kind of you. Even though it may not seem like it, that little guy probably really appreciated the air conditioning and you love. Great vid, he's a little cutie.
It wasn't tamed. It had a concussion. They hit the window and are dazed. As you can see he was wobbling. I got those a lot at the cabin. Real light birds.
Maybe somebody can help me! I live in the mountains of Colorado and hummingbirds are very common. Well, a few days ago, i found a young humming bird but old enough to fly on my sidewalk. She is missing half her feathers on one wing and cant fly. At the moment she is hanging out in a shoebox witha saucer of nectar. I dont know what to do! heLP!
my father once found a humming bird, that was also dying, because if they dont find sugar in a couple of minutes they died, because they consume a lot of energy, my father found one and bring it home and also give him sugar with water when the bird was good again we flyied away, then he turned around and looked at my father, stayed there a couple of seconds, and then he left like if he was sayin thanks to him

humming birds are one of many amazing birds.
good thing you let it go because you cannot keep a wildlife bird like hummingbirds even to care for while being hurt.
by law you have to call the proper authorities.
but thats just the law, i would probably do the same
