We agree there. There is no excuse for men to use the name of God to do such terrible things. It has given all people of faith a black eye and worse; made the "God" they claimed to serve seem as evil as these people and systems were (and some still are). There's no way to make up for it all. But we can try. People of faith can live a life of peace and service and caring and love. No one will be perfect, but we can do a much better job reflecting the true character of our loving God.

The Muslims ruled it after the conquest. The majority of Jews now have no origin from the middle east except for Turkish converts (they don't have any claim to Palestinian land)

We agree there. There is no excuse for men to use the name of God to do such terrible things. It has given all people of faith a black eye and worse; made the "God" they claimed to serve seem as evil as these people and systems were (and some still are). There's no way to make up for it all. But we can try. People of faith can live a life of peace and service and caring and love. No one will be perfect, but we can do a much better job reflecting the true character of our loving God.

I'm catholic, and traditional one at that, however the pope has no authority to speak about politics like this. Anything he says is his opinion, and not necessarily that of the church. It has nothing to do with morality, or the faith, and is just a comment from the Pope. I understand why the Pope would want an apology, but I disagree the State of Israel should do that. The only thing the Israel needs to apologize is it's existence, and the atrocities it has committed against Gazans.
