the quality and tone of the note she hits at 3:18 is beyond words....actually almost all she sings is at that incredible level of quality of tone. I hope as she grows her voice doesn't change where her current tone is gone forever...Im sure what she evolves into will be magnificent also...
@deepelments, if you oned the CD or the DVD of the concert this came from you would know without any question that this is indeed Jackie. I happen to own the Studio CD, the Concert CD and the DVD of this concert and the version posted is from her studio CD.
This is NOT jackie Evancho singing. This clip is a FAKE. The voice we are listening to is that of an adult soprano, who sounds properly trained. Jackie is a cute little girl with a tiny voice who sings her pieces phonetically, pecking at them prettily. Her shelf life will be short and I hope her greedy parents cash in while they can. Don't you idiots have ears?
@philipc67 You've just been told in French, I'll tell you in English: you are out of your gourd. There is no question that this is Jackie singing. As far as her parents are concerned; every kid in the the US should be so lucky as to have parents as caring and nuturing as Jackie.
@philipc67 Wow....that's about as far off of the deep end, for anyone, that I have seen in the comment section of Miss Evancho's videos so far! If you want to really know just who this is singing, then go to her video that was recorded in the NPR studio or to the ones that were recorded when she was in Japan recently. By the way, don't tell David Foster that she is "FAKE" because he has produced her album and the PBS Great Performances concert and he knows music better than anyone that I know.
Oh Philip, you are so, so, SO wrong! The only thing that's correct in your post is your name - well, i assume it's your name - & the fact that Jackie is a cute little girl.
This is really Jackie singing. She is untrained & is not an adult. She does not have a tiny voice. She does not just sing phonetically, but understands the meaning of the words. Her parents are not greedy & her career will be long. And i have excellent ears.
I'm in that amazing part of youtube again. and i never want to leave. when I'm lying on my death bad this voice is what will be going through my head because it's the closest I've ever felt to any god.
It's just incredible. Astounding. Unbelievable. There aren't enough superlatives in the English language to describe her vocal talent so i'll just use Jackie's new word FANTABULOSO!
@Gneto8385 Why would you "overcome" something that is working for you lol?? That would make no sense. If you don't like it then I suppose you should go listen to someone who suits your taste better!
Listen to "Serse: Ombra mai fu " with Paula Rasmussen or Malena Ernman -- this is likely what Jackie will sound like when she is an adult. Paula seems the closest match to Jackie's younger voice--very high and clear.
@jeannie1renee2 I went to view the video you recommened.. mai Fu by Paula Rasmussen and Oh My Gosh.. I pray that Jackie doesn't sound or even looks like Paula Rasmussen..
I'm not worried.. Jackie's voice and style will be eternal and her very own.. Jackie puts life in every song she sings in a way that no one can rival.
She is great. If there is one insignificant criticism is her pronunciation of Italian. Someone told her she has to "roll" all her R's, which is not correct. But again, that doesn't take anything away from the performance. I'm just being picky.
Jackie Evancho has been studying with an Italian diction coach, Danielle Siena. Miss Siena was born in Florence, Italy. Miss Siena’s credits include the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, and the Curtis Institute of Music. She is known as one of the foremost experts in the sung language of Italian. Sony can retain the best vocal pro's,
Jackie Evancho worked with Yvie Burnett (Fmr Opera Singer), Lorraine Nubar (Julliard Teacher).
@yomamajama777 I guess Ms. Siena needs to do a better job. One perfect example is when she sings "Nessun Dorma". Listen to it and Jackie rolls the 'r' when she says "amore", and "speranza" in the line "che tremano d'amore e di speranza...", as if it was "amorre" and "sperranza". Listen to how Pavarotti sings that line and you'll see what I'm talking about. R's are not always rolled in Spanish and Italian. Jackie rolls her r's very well, but she does it in all the words. That is incorrect.
@yomamajama777 Again, I'm not questioning her vocal performance and technique. I'm questioning her pronunciation of the R in the Italian language. You are obviously not understanding that. In the video you cited, she rolls the R in the word "cara", as in "carra". You don't roll the R in that word. If you still don't understand what I'm saying, listen to Bocelli in the video "Andrea Bocelli - Frondi Tenre E Belle..Ombra Mai Fu", and listen to how he says "cara". I speak Italian.
Well since you are fluent in Italian, I won't question your assertions,
But another Opera lover Italian fluent fan stated on another forum
jim silvestri says Jackie has demonstrated for this opera lover a pure tonality and pronunciation of Italian any Tuscan mother-tongue speaker would envy. Jackie sings her vowels (a.e.i. o.u) in the best tradition of Italian Bel canto. Compare with Galli-Curci,Tebaldi,Tassinari and the heavenly Callas. Bravo Jackie and her teachers."
@yomamajama777 You don't have to take my word for it. Listen to her say those words and if you aren't deaf you'll see how Bocelli and Pavarotti differ, or any other native speaker. You are exasperatingly stupid.
@yomamajama777 Also, I never said she doesn't say her vowels correctly you idiot. Read my notes carefully. I only complained about her R's in SOME instances.
@yomamajama777 I gave you video references that anybody with half a brain and a couple of ears free of wax buildup can verify for themselves. Are you really that much of a moron, or are you just pulling my leg?
(Another prev.YT Fan response to a post about Jackie's Italian pronunciation)
Actually her Italian isn't terrible. Your critique loses credibility when it makes use of hyperbole. The "R" is rolled in Italian, ["amorre" not "amore"] and slightly over doing it does't equate with being "terrible." Language ability is measured by context, purpose... She did fine communicating the lyrics in an aria.
Just love her to pieces! Does any one know how her Dream With Me album is doing? I bought the CD/DVD set and it blows me away. Can't stop listeing to it.
@leicafans2010 - She IS professional nowadays. She was the top-selling debut artist of 2010, smashing Michael Jackson's record as the youngest solo artist ever to have a Top-10 album (among many other achievements). She'll also play Robert Redfords' daughter in his upcoming political thriller "The Company You Keep" currently being filmed.
@contessa61 - Yeah, but you know Hollywood, the male actors are ALWAYS paired with younger women - of course it's that way in REAL LIFE in Hollywood too (or actually anywhere where there's wealthy men) - but among NORMAL middle-class folks your observation would be right on target.
Ombra Mai Fu is a very trite aria that is usually performed with little or no emotional investment, but this specific performance of the aria by Jackie Evancho is nothing less than exquisite: Her incomparable voice rises and falls like a storm as she glides over the melody with the grace of ocean waves. If you want listen to the opposite convention - Ombra mai fu - Aled Jones , fortunately with recitative.
@Mrsawyer46 My post was to show differences and changes in classical music from baroque to XIX c period. It is pointless to compare good mezzo to good soprano - like compare fiddle to viola- first more sharpen, viola more gentle and warm but it is feature. You are welcome to my playlists with boy and girl examples.

@ryan33bttm I absolutely agree with you.. Even though people do change as they grow up I don't think Jackie will fall prey to toxic temptations (as you so well put it) that fame can bring.. Search Youtube under "Jackie Evancho - Ombra Mai Fu live on NPR", there listen
on your Hi Fidelity speakers and evaluate her vocal performance and technique.
Jackie vocal technique is getting better, I do not think any 11 year can perform this
aria at this high level. Besides Ms. Siena just began working with her and Jackie will get better. Do you speak Italian and are you a vocalist?
