This is a great tibute to the "Boss" I must have seen Maynard over 50 times from 1974 right up until he passed away. Maynard and Blood Sweat and Tears were my two favorite bands in high school. My brother and I got to meet him after a show in Providence, R.I. one night. He was a great, down to earth human being . His trumpet playing goes without saying. You always looked forward to a M.F. Concert. The great musicians, the great arrangements, and the medley. R.I.P. Maynard. You are not forgotten.

Yeah, well, you can say what you want about Hession (and some time ago I'd probably agree with you) but the part from 3:37 to 4:38 is my ringtone. I know it even 'more' than by heart and I see Hession's playing as a part of this great piece. It would be different without his pointless screaming, and I probably wouldn't like it. Maynard flubbed every 10th note or so; he played with a pinched off, narrow sound when he played high and a blotty, uncontrolled sound when he played low. He covered up this blotty-ness and pinchy-ness with wide, obnoxious vibrato in the low register and ugly sounding, wide shakes in the high register. What do people see in this man's trumpeting ability?!?!?!?! Please tell me if you know.
