  • yea, im a dancer too and i struggle a lot with my weight, I atleast think, but i have no intention on developing an eating disorder *i eat enough*. anyways my dance instructor did say to the entire class one time *when i was on the verge of killing to be a twig* and she said to all of us, but i think directly to me, "dancers dance better when they a lighter", and it hurt. so yes i can see why some ballerina's develop eating disorders, but i honestly don't know anyone who is.

  • Dancers eat like horses, just letting you know.

  • i think that is a misconception people have (that ballet dancers have eating disorders.) just because someone is skinny doesn't mean they are starving themselves.

  • When you are a dancer, you need to be strong - if you are starving yourself, you cannot be a strong, beautiful dancer!!

Determination, strength, focus are 3 things that make for a good dancer . . . .

  • Read Gelsey Kirkland's "Dancing on My Grave." She talks about breaking a foot bone on stage because it had been weakened by anorexia (& drugs & other issues). One can push the human body quite far: achievements in dance, sport, or modeling do not in and of themselves rule out the possibility of anorexia/bulemia in dancers and others. (Also, as a visual comment, the titling needs to be shadowed or darker, the overlay is hard to read, and the texts are important, so they deserve a better offset.)

  • hi. im Avery im a dancer and ive been dancing for 10-11 years i recently have been thinking im too heavy to be a dancer im not saying im fat but im saying i feel that im too heavy to be a "ballerina" i have always bruised easily and ive recently became a vegetarian can someone please help me. please.

  • i do not know what anorexia is? what does it mean?

  • @selrahc012694 It means you don't eat. You purposely starve yourself to become thinner.

  • lol being skinny isn't perfect. for those ladies out there who think skinny is 'perfect' guys like something to grab on to! if you're too skinny, you won't have any breasts or hips. and dancers need to eat to gain the strength they need to be able to stand on pointe. i have been dancing for a while and i have definitely noticed a difference in my weight because of muscle gaining. so please don't starve yourselves ladies!!!

  • @GnatSprat123 who cares what guys like. it's not about them, anyway. it's about us. other than that, i agree with you.

  • I'm sorry but an anorexic person can not dance because if you want to dance it takes strength, an anorexic person has no strength!

Stop to say that dancing leads to anorexia, certainly the Dancers are slim but it's part in the art!

    Sorry for my English ...

  • ok all of u saying that YOUVE NEVER seen a anorexic girl where u are danicng ur ballet..i recommend watching a russian reporter travelling to a russian ballet school in siberia where small girls eat apples for lunch! theyre skinny, their hands are red (like all anorexics), they speak about how they must be thin, how they want to success and the only way to be a successful ballerina is to be thin and dance everyday 24/7?!dont remember the name but ANOREXIA DOES EXIST IN BALLET. NOT EVERYWHERE OFC

  • Ok, so I am a ballet dancer for about 13 years now,and in the studios I have been so far, not ONE girl has been anorexic, This is a very big stereotype that is not true. Ofcourse there are ballerinas with eating disorders but arent there people with eating disorders everywhere? In modelling this is a bigger problem. Also when you showed the bruised feet, that has nothing to do with anorexia, it happens when you dont ance properly en pointe for the first few times, and for no other reasons.

  • I've been dancing ballet for nearly 14 years. I'm not a professional but I have indeed seen anorexic dancers. It's not common because my teacher is very strict about the girls maintaining good physical health, but I HAVE seen it in some of the younger girls. I have also seen it at other studios where the teachers don't seem to notice or care, etc. Anorexia is a much bigger problem than many would like us to believe!

  • u r all filthy liars .. ballet dancers my ass !! of course u see so many anorexic dancers that u get sick, u dont understand after years when u've become anorexic too ! i was one of them so shut up ppl if u dont know OR pretend that u know all about ballet

  • @littlevasula I guess you weren't as good as the others.. Due to strength issues. But that was rude, to say that these people know nothing about ballet. ? >.>

  • ballet is bullshit anyway

  • @deadmike2 la mierda es lo k tienes por cerebro

  • Do you think that dancers who are anorexic would have been that way no matter which profession they were in, because it's a particular personality trait they have anyway?

  • I was a "Ballerina" it was a sick world w/ screaming, critical teachers, high pressure, injuries, anorexia, mean, competitive dancers. I switched years ago to dancing, performing and teaching Isadora Duncan Dance. I LOVE DUNCAN and am in total Bliss!

  • It's really hard to dance ballet. You're not only dancing. It look like it is so easy but it's really hard. I'm a dancer, too. Not profecional. I'm from Germany and I'm 14 years ol and my balletteacher said that you have only to have 50 kg with 1,60- 1,70 m.... I'm 1,70 and I will grow more... and I have a bit more than 50 kg :/ But it's really fun and you forget the world when you dance ;)

  • im a dancer and ive never seen an anorexic dancer. we dont strive to be skinny we strive to be the best AT WHAT WE DO, NOT WHAT WE LOOK LIKE i also noticed that all the dance pictures and anyone who looks anerexic is some random picture

  • i have never known a dancer to be anorexic tbh i think most dancers know that they need to eat in order to be able to perform well, yes there will be some dancers that are anorexic but the majority know that to be able to perform the best they can they need to practice and eat healthily, any dancer that is anorexic is not going to have anywhere near the strength they need to be able to dance. the reason ballerinas are as thin as they are is because they train extremely hard

  • I like how all the ballet dancers in the video look healthy and muscular, while the truly anorexic people were the random models.

  • God there is a lot of fucking ballerinas who watched this video...

  • sadly yes SOME dancers have anorexia but that does not mean All dancers are ballet dancers use & build muscles that most people don't even know they have & train hard so they are going to be thin & besides if u dance on pointe u have to be light because ur putting all your body weight on ur toes.as for ur feet pics.they would be worse if you were a 170lbs or more & if someone was a serious anorexic they wouldent even be able to dance in the 1rst place u need bone strength.especially in ballet

  • My ballet dancer used to tell us to eat an apple as a meal... but we've never taken him seriously, fortunately...

  • my ballet teacher used to TELL us to skip meals…

  • What a stupid think to say. Maybe they are some anorexic girls that acually are dancers (but I seriously doubt they get a part!), like they are anorexic girls in lots of professions, it's not a desease caused by ballet or dancing. You need to be extreamly fit and eat well to train so much for being a professional dancer, you just can't be anorexic and dance.

  • I think they look great. People nowadays think that if you aren't stopping for a burger on your way somewhere that you are fat.

  • I think that we all have different experiences as dancers and the dancers that are around us are all different as well, we do not all experience the same things. For many this is not the reality but for many just as with modeling this may very well be the case. Sometimes the subtle suggestions are taken more seriously because of who gives them. If this isn't true for you congratulations and stay healthy! I haven't been to a ballet in a while, too many really skinny dancers.

  • this video is fuckin bullshit

  • If they were anorexic they could'nt even dance ..

    .

  • @Raheeeeeeeeel Hope they all understood your point coz I so agree with you. The pictures of those anorexic girls aren't even ballerinas.

  • I just realized that the message this video is trying to convey is that basically if you're a ballet dancer you are anorexic. A little too generalized don't you think? I doubt if that was the kind of message the book you based this video on was trying to send though. Besides, the book was fictional. If it were a real story, the girl wouldn't have been able to last in the rigorous training involved in ballet. She would have quit long time ago. Or died of organ failure.

  • Thanks for the dumbass video...

  • If a ballerina were a anorexic, then she couldn't dance, cause you need to be REALLY STRONG. I'm a ballerina & a ballerina has to be stronger than anything, you have to do really impressive & hard things with your body, with a smile on your face & looking 'sweet & delicate'. I'm thin, but it is because of the exercise, I even have abs, but all I want to do after my class is eat, I eat all day, but it's hard to be fat, cause you spend all calories in the class.

  • This is a stereotype you should stop trashing ballerinas. Not all of them feel the need to be skinny. In ballet it is the movements and the gracefulness that makes you beautiful not the the size of your waist, butt, or stomach.

  • Ha! I dance en pointe and I'm no skinny Minnie. I think anorexia is far more common in modeling, when talking about occupations that "feed" the disorder, as ballet demands strength beyond what a malnourished dancer could deliver.

  • @KalosSkopeo I SO Agree with you!

  • @KalosSkopeo i know right to dance on pointe or to be a dancer in general you dont have to be anerexic!!!

  • @lizifish101 to be a dancer you CAN'T be anorexic! there is no possible way a ballerina could go on pointe or do half the things dancers do if they were anorexic. the disorder eats away at muscles hence why in severe cases they can barely bring the cup of water to their mouths.

and to those who say 'she's too skinny' to a dancer, it's probably not because they don't eat much because they want to be slim it's because they can't eat ENOUGH to keep weight on as they train themselves so hard!

  • anorexia exits in ballet but this disease isn't specific to ballet.

I believe that anorexia It's a social problem, beacuse of the image that it's established in society today.

My point it's that no one tells little girls, that to achieve that body, you have to spent hours training to achive that physique , and yes I am a dancer and I love it but you have to remeber that anorexia it's a disease of the mind just because you are thin doesn't mean that that's what you see in the mirror

  • There is anorexia in most athletic sports, where you are judged by your body. It isn't specific to ballet

  • Dancers are thin because we exercise alot (average intermediate dancer does 10-15 hours a week minimum). I'm thirteen, and have been dancing for ten years. I eat ALOT, to compensate for the amount of exercise I do. I eat nearly twice as much as my non-dancer friends, and yet I am still very thin (BMI of 16.6). I am healthy, and eat more than five servings of fruits and vegetables every day, (doctor's orders). I am NOT anorexic, and in fact I love my body, and wouldn't dream of hurting it.

  • ballerinas are skinny because we work hard and believe it or not we are not ALL anorexic and striving for skinny. Yes, most of us do want to be the best at what we do, but doesn't everyone wish to be the best at what they do? This video gives FALSE information and a bad name to the ballet community. Might as well just do a video on how common anorexia is in different sports, not just ballet... it's everywhere, not just here.....

  • We dancers are by no means anorexic. if we are thin is a result of the many hours of training we go through everyday. In fact, we are told to eat a lot to get sufficient energy... yes we are made to pig out.

  • this video is stupid. ballerinas don't need to be anorexic to be perfect and not anyone that is thin is anorexic, i'm thin and i eat just like a cow. my point is: not all of the ballet dancers are anorexics, anorexia is a disease not a ballet result.

  • that's the truth about ballet it's beautiful to watch ,but evokes a wrong image to young girls

  • @PAOLMM89 Not true. Are you even a dancer?

  • this is retarded

  • my friends a dacer shes done musicals and that and played the white cats in the mucical cats and shes a very healthy person yet on the other hand iv another friend whos in hospital just now weighing a pitiful 4 stone or less and shes small in size but even kids clothes drown her she thinks shes like 40 stone and obease God only knows whats going through her mind

  • Bottom line is thin is disgusting. Especially in ballet with tights. A perfect ballerina has the muscle she needs

  • I am a dancer. I have never ever seen an anorexic person in the dance theater in town.

  • @TheLilyfairies Okay, you think you haven't seen one. Anorexia is a disorder, you don't have to be skinny to have it. There could easily be one in the dance theatre in your town. I'm not saying that just because they are dancers, it affects people for different reasons. It's not always athletics, but lots of times it is because of body image. Ballet for example is certainly one.

  • @KIWIo3o Also fashion models, office people, singers, regular employees. Which basically means anybody who is very conscious about their body image, a little too conscious to a point of being unhealthy. I think there are more cases of these in being a fashion model since that basically deals with what your body looks like, there are rare cases for ballet dancers, but only rare because a dancer needs to be strong to dance, starving will rob a dancer of energy to dance. So obvious.

  • @KIWIo3o Also, Anorexia has more obvious signs than Bulimia. I do hope everyone knows the difference. I'm a registered nurse and a ballerina as well. People with very low self-esteem may fall victim to these eating disorders. Also people dealing with stresses beyond their capacity could resort to these as a desperate escape from reality.

  • @TheLilyfairies you cant tell always tell by looking at a person whether a person has an eating disorder or not.

  • @TheLilyfairies u dont see them cuz they r good at hiding it.....

  • @TheLilyfairies Are you joking? You've never seen an anoraxic ballerina? I can conclude you're not from Russia.

  • I watched this show and there was a women who was a Broadway dancer and it was Christmas show and a critic said she looked like she ate one sugar plum too many even though she was actually extremely skinny

  • what a ridiculous video

  • I'm not thin. I've been dancing ten years, and I'm not thin, because I am healthy, and I have muscle. I have to pack a lot of wait on my toes, I have to be able to hold myself up. I can't do any of that if I don't eat. Dancing isn't about being thin, dancing is about instinct, creativity, beauty, grace and trying your best. If you don't do your best, you aren't doing it right.

I'm proud not to be thin! <3

  • Ok...I'm a ballerina and no one i have ever known is or has been anorexic. I don't know why people think you always have to be anorexic to be a good ballerina. That is actually extremely stupid. You are way more likely to break your bones.

  • i am a ballerina and we have to be thin to get anywhere its not healthy but we dont care

  • @princessoddett maybe you should care because, you also won't get anywhere if you're in the hospital or .. dead.

  • @princessoddett I think you're confusing "thin" and "slim". I'm a ballerina and people like you give other ballerinas like us a bad name. Shame on you!

  • sounds to me that someone is to fat to be a dancer,

  • @princessoddett You sound like a conceited, obnoxious brat. Some of the best dancers I have ever known were beautiful, curvy women. Stop hating on others.

  • @princessoddett Also, "fat" is technically a nutrient. It is crucial for normal body function and without it we could not live. Not only does fat supply us with energy, it also makes it possible for other nutrients to do their jobs.

  • @princessoddett When describing someone with an excessive amount of fat in their bodies that goes beyond their Body Mass Index you call them Overweight, not fat. Please educate yourself dear, its highly embarrassing.

  • Im a ballet dancer and im a little over weight... Being anorexic and doing ballet is the most dangerous thing to do tbh... If you think about it, you need strength... By not eating, youre not strong... So you can break your bones easier...

  • You know, if you people would read the summary...nowhere in this did the poster say that all ballerinas/ballet dancers are anorexic. It's a school project. It's about eating disorders. So....REALLY?

  • сука!!!

  • Okay, any of you anorexic girls that think being 70 pounds with no booty or boobs is attractive..... LOL.

Boy: oh you got some nice bones!

Stacay: oh you see that? *blaaaah*

Boy: oh shit I got a boner

Stacay: you do? But I'm so fat

Boy: stop! I think I'm jizzing!

... no. That will never be the case. EVER!

  • @iamtyrasbiggestfan Lmfao damn straight!

  • i'm a ballet dancer, i've been training just over 15 years. and while we do have to be mindful of our weight, very very few of us are anorexic. the body simply could not perform for al those hours if we didn't have any fuel. simply by dancing for so many hours a day is what keeps us thin. and we need nourishing foods like vegetables and fruits and lean proteins. fatty foods will make us lethargic and hinder our performance .

  • just one thing, binging and purging is a sign of Bulimia, not anorexia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa do purge, but they rarely binge before hand. but apart from that, I love this video. It's a really good video. :)

  • Eu juro que não entendo, porque qm tem anorexia alcança melhor desenvolvimento no balé!Ja as mais gordinhas ñ conseguem fazer várias coisas sobre seu excesso de gordura!

  • Comment removed

  • @jjnatt15 I've been in both the dancing and skating community, and I've seen several cases of both anorexia and bulimia. The people you know probably don't make up the tiniest fraction of the dancing/skating/entertainment community.

You sound rather young. Educate yourself.

  • @kamwrites I do apologize. I have removed my comments but not before re-reading them and finding myself shocked and surprised. You're right. I was irrational. To whom ever made the video... it was so persuasive, it drove me into shock. Just defending my point.... whatever it may be.

  • i have met very very few dancers in my time who were actually anorexic. and the reason they were so thin actually had nothing to do with dance. you clearly are not a dancer if you think anys dancers are anorexic.

  • Also how can you not see the physical difference between the pictures of anorexics and the ballet dancers that you have? Its so obvious who is healthy and who is not.

  • Also binging and purging is symptoms of bulimia, not anorexia.

  • I believe the book to be quite uninformed about what goes on in a ballet school. some schools even have their own nutritionists to guide the students into a proper diet. There always seems to be a misconception with the word "diet". It does not mean reducing what you eat but eating the proper amount of nutrition needed for your body.

  • It is better to be a tad slimmer as a dancer because ballerinas dance on their toes which means you carry all your wight on your 10 toes (ouch!) but you don't get that kind of physique through starving yourself and bear in mind you need food to burn in order to have energy to dance. The way you made your video made it seem like us ballerinas are all anorexic. There is pressure in maintaining our weight. Now its up to the student how she deals with the pressure.

  • I think the causes for anorexia aren't always that simple...they can be much more profound

  • Ihope you got an A+ for this :)

  • You guys need to read the description this video is based off a book so calm down you little prema ballerinas damn

  • You don't necessarily have to be 50 pounds to be anorexic. That's an EXTREME form. However, I have had the chance to meet a profesional ballerina who suffered from Anorexia and bulimia. She was skinny..but not deathly skinny. She and several clasmates suffered from the eating disorder. It's REALLY differet to be a dancer than a ballerina. Dancers are modern, where they ACCEPT muscles, boobs, butts. EVERYTHING a woman has. HOWEVER a ballerina.. you can't have ANY of that. Thats why its restricted

  • i'm 18 and have been dancing for 15 years and never once have i thought i was fat. i'm all muscle and that's what i need to be a good dancer. yes i am thin but that is because of my metabolism and how much i dance. i eat non-stop and love food more than anything. this video just makes it seem like if you are a dancer then you become anorexic and that is not true. anorexia is a disease, not a result of being a dancer.

  • I have a friend who is studying ballet, and her teacher told her to go on a very strict diet, because she was not thin enough. I study acting, and there are some teachers who tell students "don't eat or you'll be a fat cow". My opinion is that how healthy you are depends not on your craft, but on your own personality and how far are you willing to go for your career, because the truth is that Hollywood and ballet companies ask for thin people. Unreal beauty standards.

  • @itzaramaja Strict diet meaning no junk foods, no empty carbohydrate rich foods, no sugary or salty foods either. Meaning, eat healthy. Strict diet does not mean starve yourself. There's a difference.

  • Well i think i have to say something, i dance ballet and i really love it, but that didn't make me to lose weight or to start destroying my self like that, if you wanna be a good ballerina you need to eat normal and not trying to lose weight so you can have strong legs because that's the only way to dance and have balance! A ballerina maybe will avoid sweets and all these stuff but she won't deny a normal life!

  • i am 11 years old and have just started point, while the requirred daily amount of physicle activity is 60 mins i dance for 455 mins a day at least. im as skinny as them and perfectly healthy, and i dont think im fat i simply eat right and dance

  • its called commitment and dedication

  • Although these comments that say 'anorexia isn’t possible in a successful ballet career' are correct, some girls don’t understand that. We all as our job need to help them before it’s too late. That means set an example for younger girls or even girls your age. Don’t let anyone else’s mindset be set in the wrong direction forever

  • It's an amazing video but I'd like to point out that the anorexia pictures weren't in fact ballerinas. All ballerinas were a healthy weight, because when you starve yourself (there is a disease called bulimia when you make yourself throw up to lose weight) you lose muscle too, and that will RUIN your ballet

  • I'm sorry, I aprreciate the time and effort that it would have taken to make this video, though I am acctually quite offended. I have danced along with amazing ballet dancers and not one of them were like that. Sure you have to be slim, but not just skin and bones. ( not trying to be disrespectful to the girls in this video). Sure that there are girl like that, but you shouldn't crude like that and go jumping to conclusion that all ballerinas throw up their food ect to be thin. Sorry, me ranting

  • hi, im 14 and ive ben doing ballet jazz....dance since i was 2 or 3 nd i dont weigh as much as my other frends but it dusnt meen im anerexic and im sry but u cnt be overweight and be an excellent ballerina and no im not saying that you have to be pencil thin but they dont care how much u weigh so u guys dont no wut ur talking bout rr!! haha

  • It is true that anorexia is a problem in ballet. Several ballerinas have died from it. Fortunately I don't think it is as much of a problem now because people are becoming more aware of how dangerous it is. Also the ballerinas who are anorexic are not completely anorexic because otherwise they wouldn't be able to dance en pointe. They are simply anorexic enough to be unhealthy. All it will do is shorten their career by a lot.

  • As a profesisonal dancer a male dancer I can tell that is truth that the lighther the women the best nobody want's partnering a heavy weight... But it's very rare to find like real heavy weights in ballet cause we rehearse and dance all day actually a real anorexic can't be a ballerina . How do you manage to jump, and be en pointe all day long without food you just can't or maybe you can but you are never be the best cause you're weak

  • i'm a ballet dancer and i'm not even thin! dancing is not only about how you look. I think it's about loving it! i pointe to with my (chubby) body and you know i'm goood :D. LOVEDANCE 'x.

  • If ur overweight what do u think the pointe shoes would do to ur feet? n' wtf with the thinner is the winner. Ur grade should be F

  • Thin***

  • Ur dumb they are think because they excersise over 4 hours a day and also now companies will not hire you if you are too thin either so anorexic girls don't get hired and if they catch a dancer with eating disorders they get fired cuz the company can get in trouble for that

  • I am not a dancer at all, but, I do know this much being a former athlete if you exercise for 3 hours a day you burn a lot of calories and these dancers are skinny. but it is most certainly not due to anorexia it is due to all of the exercising that these young girls do they burn so many calories and that is why they are as skinny as they are.

  • I suggest you read a little more about eating disorders and the dance world before you make assumptions about dancers' bodies and "what goes through a ballerina's mind."

  • LOL! No anorexic's that I could see, and 1:43 was FAKE.

  • All dancers are pushed to be thin, that's a fact. Some take it too far, but most are healthy eaters.

  • What you do to be perfect in ballet is become more flexible, more muscular, not skinnier. Most companies will throw you out if you are anorexic. Most of the dancers I know are the least self-conscious people I know.

  • well some dancer are built with a small frame and high metabolism so they just don't really gain weight. But the biggest factor is that with our 24/7 dancing we burn it off anyway :) You need to be strong for ballet. skin and bones really isn't good. You need to have a balanced diet.

  • I do russian pointe ballet and i eat like a pig but im real thin + dancing DOESNT make u anorexic!!!!!!

  • 4:37 was rythmic gymnastics -_-

  • no....you need to have strength, any dancer knows that. models have anorexia, not all models do, but a lot do, not dancers i have yet to meet a strong graceful dancer who is anorexic and is able to do what ballerinas are required to do.

  • I don't think of eating disorders, or of extreme thinness when I think of ballet dancers. I think of women who are thin but muscular, given the high athletic demand that the dancing places on their bodies. Yes, I'm sure there are ballet dancers with eating disorders out there, due to their own body image issues. Just like there are models, actresses, other performers and general members of the public with eating disorders.

  • they are talking about the one's that are ....chill out ...I've seen fat and built ballet dancers EN POINTE chill

  • just cause ppl r in dance does not mean that we r anerexic!

  • Actually you have to eat ALOT to be that active! They wouldn't have the energy to dance if they were anorexic. They're just so skinny because they burn off all their fat by dancing so much and probably because they eat healthier.

  • I eat like a bro. I do ballet. I HAVE AN ASS. i am curvy, and i love it!!! if i dance without eating lunch, i have massive stomach cramps that make me not dance and wen i have those im not foused on how pretty i look while starved, i think of how much i want to eat xD

  • This is bullshit. I do ballet and I'm not anorexic.. get screwed -.-

  • Some ballet companies (In Europe especially) are more rigorous and strict that companies in America. The pressure of perfection is not the same in all situations....

  • Also...how do stereotypes come to be in the first place? Think about it....

  • @helenarose27 Stupid cunts like you chat shit? Fuck off and die you retarded cuntface. peace xxx

  • I was in ballet for 14 years and saw a few girls become anorexic...While it's true that ballet stereotypes are often blown out of proportion, the mental aspect of it is very real. Ballet is about grace, beauty and perfection. There's no way to obtain that unless you're willing to make some sacrifices. While WEIGHT may not be one of them, THINNESS certainly can be.Costumes and tutus don't come in all sizes....I was never bigger than a size 4 and got cut from some parts because I wasn't thin enough

  • I'll state this first. I'm not in ballet anymore, and haven't been since i was 7. I never got pointe shoes. But you know what, i do happen to know that you can't be weak and do what they do.

The jumps, the spins/twirls, the splits and everything else they do, that's not something you can really do when you anorexic. And a LOT of people are just skinny.

There's a girl in my highschool, we're both juniors. She eats like a PIG. But she is SUPER skinny. She has NO eating disorder, she's just skinny.

  • unfortunately these types of videos that may seem education are actually very much misinformative. Professional ballerinas (just like professionals in many other disciplines) have a natural talent for the sport. Talent coupled with genes creates the graceful artists we see in the media. the ones who have to push themselves as much as they do are quickly rejected because coaches know they wont make it.

  • ok tofu bitch, calm your balls, you ever try and disrespect dancing and i will come in there and fuette all over your ugly face

  • Someone did not get in to ballerinaschool..

    U jelly?

  • @MrLitago4ever what goes through a lifeless´s person mind? to make an anorexia in ballet video

  • @myharmonium Its was actually based on a novel. Just pointing out. I kinda feel sorry for the one who made this video, It might just be a case of misinterpretation (I hope)

  • if this is based entirely from the book you studied for English, then I see nothing wrong with your video (but maybe you should clarify that you aren't just making huge generalizations about ballet. Some people don't read the description box) I also think that the ballet girls watching your video should calm down (though I don't do ballet, I do get what it feels like to have people assume you're anorexic and unhealthy when you, in fact, adore food), as I think this is just a misunderstanding

  • @Leshamajigga I think you are quite right. Some things about ballet are genaralized in this video but it is complete misunderstanding. I like that you mentioned that people assume someone is anorexic. I dance 12-14 hrs a week and the skinniest girl in my class eats the most out of all of us. Before dance today she apparently had 2 bowls of ice cream, a slice of cake, and a sandwich.

  • @dancingforfaith96 same here my best friend Jayne eat like a drago weigh 93 pounds and is 5'9 she is healthy but people think she is anorexic. People need to really learn about anorexia.

  • I don't know if this is your personal experience, but almost no ballerinas have anorexia. Yes we do strive for excellence, but that means pushing ourselves hard and being the best that we can be. It also means being self confident for who you ARE; not what a stereotype says that a ballerina is. I hope you understand how hard we work to get everything we have. We earn our health and don't try to destroy it with something as dangerous as an eating disorder.

  • I'm a dancer and I love food! I eat a lot of the things that a normal person would, and a lot of it! I do try to eat healthy, but that's nowhere near starvation. I know so many thin dancers that eat a lot of food, they just have high motabolisms. I know that for me personally, I lose unhealthy weight from the dancing I do because it burns calories. It's good excorcise. Most of us don't have eating disorders!

  • um. ballerinas arent all anorexic. not even most of us are. thats a stereo type. we're probably so skinny because we are dancing at least 5 hours every day and eating HEALTHY. instead of sitting on our butts and making a video about this.

  • 2:32 is disugting! im gonna have nightmares! how could anyone ever do THAT to themselves? i suppose it becomes an obsession because thir body is the only thing that anorexic people can control. YIKES!!!!!

  • not ALL dancers are stick thin! Look at Marinela Nunez, from the royal academy in londen, or look at Misty Copeland from ABT! There is a difference between being anorexic, and being fit, healthy, and in shape!!!

  • and people who are most likely to get anorexia are super models not dancers!!

  • it may be horrible but its not fair to us dancers! true we are thin but we are very strong! and this is how people put other people off ballet because they think we have eating disorders when we dont! and i just want to worn people that we just eat healthily and not try and kill ourselfs!! :)

  • This is a horrible thing

  • I hate that all the world says that ballet dancers are anorexic... Im a ballet dancer and i am not anorexic and none of my friends is so stop that stereotype

  • If you become anorexic, you have to stop dancing at some point, your body can't stand it. And it's true that the fashion in the world of ballet is now, as in the rest of the world, thinner than before, but it's not that dramatic.

  • Hmm people don't seem to grasp the point of this video. It never stated all ballerinas or dancers are anorexic. There are anorexic people who are dancers and anorexic people who are not dancers. Just like there are dancers who are not anorexic and dancers who are anorexic. But if you're anorexic AND a dancer, then you're in a difficult position, since a lot of people prefer skinny dancers, eventhough it's not true, there's still a lot of pressure on those people.. That's just what it is about-_-

  • I'm a dancer and I binge eat. You can not be a dancer and be anorexic, where do you think we get our energy from? I'm still thin even though I eat SO much because I dance 6 days a week! You just got a bunch of pictures of skinny ballerinas and put them on here, ballerinas don't have fat on their bodies because they train their asses off all day every day!!!! And the pictures with girls ribs poking out are not even ballerinas!!

  • If you are that skinny you probably can't dance ballet. You have to be really strong to be a great ballerina. Look at the girl at :36, she is all muscle and there is no way she would be able to a penchee like that if she were only 50 pounds

  • @MimisaysRAWR leave the penchee an anorexic girl (with fragile bones) can't even be en pointe many hours

  • @MimisaysRAWR you have a point but that's not completely true. you see, the less you weigh the less muscles you have to make to move your body.

  • 2:20 that girl is hot

  • 4.37 is from rhythmic gymnastics, not ballet....but then again....i guess those girls are anorexic too in your opinion

  • As a ballet dancer, I find this really offensive. I know that there are kids who do ballet who are anorexic, but ANYONE can be anorexic. There are probably the same amount of kids who do soccer who can be anorexic as ballet dancers. ANYONE can be at risk of anorexia. I am not the smallest dancer at my studio, but i'm perfectly fine with who I am and what I look like. All ballerinas are labeled with being anorexic. I'm not saying you are against ballet, but ANYONE can be, not just ballet.

  • This person took an important issue (anorexia in ballet) and distorted it. Several of the pictures in this slideshow were of non-anorexic dancers. This video supports the stereotype that ALL ballet dancers are automatically anorexic, thus making it harder for those who are ACTUALLY anorexic to get help. This video helps no one, least of all those who truly need it- the anorexic dancers.

  • @bWeidung: I'm not responding as an outsider, but as someone who has danced in a professional ballet company myself. I guess I'm the only ballet dancer in the universe that ever had an eating disorder, according to you. Everyone needs to stop being so defensive. We get it, there are dancers are who eat, and some who don't.

  • if ballerinas were anorexic they wouldn't have the strength that it needs to do all the movements.

  • What a waste of my utube time -- anorexia in ballet? Why this title? What -- do you think all ballerina dancers are anorexic and/or wanting to be so thin? You have it all wrong, and definitely do not speak from experience. Absurd

  • also, the video didnt fucking say that all ballerinas have this probelm,, did it?? exactly, so get over it.

  • what the hell you guys???? im a dancer, and i know alot of other dancers that eat nothing but a yogurt a day! why are you all saying that this isnt true, but then you say that you do know that some dancers that are anorexic? make up your mind!wether you have an eating problem or not, there ARE alot of dancers out there that have this problem, dont deny it. i used to have this problem too, but i got help. not all have this problem, but alot do, so get over it. its not like theyre gonna admit it.
