nah, if you understand how an explosion works it all really depends on how the damn thing is situated in your hand lol. placed loosely between 2 fingertips the explosion is able to disperse without causing much impact damage. it ripped the skin off my middle finger, killed the two finger nails, and the bottom cap shot out and burned a circle in my palm. some other damage but nothing remarkable. granted it was a home made one with roughly 2-3g black powder so i cant call it a "real m-80"
