  • I enjoyed this footage, she is so like the paddle steamer Ruby her old sister steam boat. Will have some video of her on YouTube in a week or two.

  • Just posted "Gem on the Murray" on you tube.

Photographs taken by my father who was part of the crew in 1962.

  • What an AWESOME love notion!!! Here in Switzerland there are also plenty of steampowered sidewheelers. But I like this boat. It's very ... ... ...rustical. Is it wooden-made, or just burns wood? THANKS, in name of those who love the steamboats, for your video.

  • Thanks for the comments - it is made of wood, and burns wood. Has a small stationary engine fitted into the hold to provide thrust

  • maybe one day, (if there's enough water in the river) we might all be lucky enough to see the Marion, Ruby and maybe even the Gem from swan hill all together in one spot on the river just like in the early 1900's.

  • the Oscar W from Goolwa, the PS Industry from Renmark..........

  • Nice to see 'Marion' in steam ... it looked rather abandoned and forlorn last time I visited.

  • Yes it it - its a beautiful boat, and a credit to those who restored her, and keep her operational

  • almost as boring as mannum is in real life

  • Thanks, Will try harder to highlight the boring-ness of Mannum next time!
