@twouselesslegs I don't genuflect at any alter, let alone those of the rich and famous. If you can point me in the direction of anyone that has created something inspirational and also has a clean record, then please do so but I think such people are few and far between. Perhaps you are correct and karma is behind the bad things that happened to George Harrison. Perhaps the same
@twouselesslegs that's a bit heartless. Yes, smoking may have been the cause of his throat cancer, but let's not try to forget that we are all a victim of the time and society in which we grew up. It was commonplace to chain smoke in the 50's 60's 70's and 80's and as you should know once you're hooked it's incredibly addictive. Let's honour this musical legend and show him some respect? How many peoples lives have you had a profound affect on? A damn site fewer than George Harrison I would wag
@TwoUselessLegs What makes you think I believe it? You said that he was stabbed and got cancer because (you claim) he plagiarized somebody's music. Some would say that's the silly superstition right there - and so it is, but karma is the wrong word for it.
@TwoUselessLegs It would be dumb of anybody to buy into a religion just because they like the guy's music. I'm not saying some fans don't, but that is dumb. @geranium0kiss .. yeah your right.. HA old BOBS DYLAN ..... he'll ''rip off ANYONE- now =even his best dead friend..for another spoonful of the FAME tonic
This is good! I too love the big production of ATMP.. of coarse Phil Spector helped with that. I love the guitar & Horns on the original! Guitars sound like horns and horns like guitars..truly awesome! I too am a musician and have the problem of not knowing when to stop!! I make the song good but always think..can it be better?
@sunriseRISE I am a musician, completely influenced by the productions of ATMP and LITMW and since I finished my first album back in 2003, I've believed the same thing about both George and myself...meaning I followed the formula of the overproduction value. It's hard to control the song when there's so much going on.
@sunriseRISE I don't think it was overproduced so much by George as it was by Phil Spector. Look up the ATMP EPK vid where George says that after listening to ATMP after all these years it had " To much echo".
@sunriseRISE George never wanted to produce his songs that much- he prefered less producing but left it up to Phil Spector to produce and Phil always overproduces stuff
@QueenBeatlesWings ..atmpass Even when it HIT THE SHOPS- as a 13yr old -I felt it was over blow-n.. with the live jam sides a waste of time.. as for the rest i seen heaps of footage where THE BEATLES play better drums, better bass RUNS guitar, better organs.. BETTER FEEL on ATMPASS tracks.. and i read more than once from apple producers who worked on the sessions((6 months))) that phil made a cool lp and george just kept adding more by himself.....
@sunriseRISE Well, I think the album would of been alot better without Spector. Just my opinion. He always had that "wall of sound" thing going on. Took away alot from the songs I think. Well, for most of them atleast. For some reason I think it works really well for "wah wah".
@QueenBeatlesWings Another way of looking at it is Phil Spector does the wall of sound things. If you don't want that ask someone like Jeff Lynne to produce your music which is what George Harrison eventually did
I don't know about all of you, but I actually prefer this take to the final one on All Things Must Pass. Less is truly more in this case. The simplicity only enhances the song's poignancy. I have acquired a considerably larger appreciation for this song.
There's a reason Spector didn't produce any of George's work after this. As much as I love the album, George's later albums were produced much better by himself IMO. The main thing, I don't think Spector did George's voice justice - far too buried in too many tracks.
Your opinion is interesting and to an extent I agree. On an emotional level I get Spector though. He makes it haunting. How do you feel about the Jeff L. work? How do you feel about Brainwashed. I value your opinion. Thanks sub.
@richig761 and @SilentKnowledge8 There is plenty of music with emotion and soul these days. You just have to find it. Agreed there is no soul or emotion in the crap that's sold to the masses, but look beyond that and there's a wealth of inspiration.
@jordanjustkidding There is. Yes. I have found some very good songs/albums written today. I just think it's a shame you have to dig deep to find it. I don't get why the modern pop culture's view of music is so simplistic nowadays.
@richig761 You're right richig761 - I think it has something to do with people like Simon Cowell making as much money as physically possibly out of the music industry - churning out pop act after pop act. Somewhere along the line popular music became a business, not an art. Consumerism killed it... Celebrity culture probably doesn't help.
@richig761 yup Technology is ruining are lives. People have even become lazy IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY! music is supposed to be one of the greatest gifts but todays "Stars" slap a song together in 2 minutes and throw a bunch of autotune in it and call it good. and it actually becomes a HIT! . some people just cant do anything right anymore:( screw my generation at least I have people like George:)
@kozmicblues14 Yup. Unfortunately, today is my generation as well. Pretty much everything I listen to is from my father's generation though, like this. There's a few bands out there that I like today, but not too many. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
@richig761 yup we are so screwed I like the foo fighters and the red hot chilli Peppers those are about the newest bands I like.( of today beause they both recently put new albums out)( even th foo f was mid 90s and red hot chilli peppers were around since late 80s) I was born in 96. I mainly listen to 60s rock and 90s rock and some 70s and 80s rock. my fave beatle is John Lennon even though I love George:)
@richig761 I totally agree! I am a teen right now and the music these days is pretty bad. I live and love old music like this. It's beautiful. Amazing. Mystifying and Excellent!
@richig761 I heartily disagree and think there's so much out here today (Avett Brothers, Jackie Greene, Greg Laszwell, Ray LaMontagne - to name just a few) that is really, really good. Different, yes, but still really good. I'm old and still love Beatles, Stones, Dead, etc etc etc - but listen to the new as well as the old - and find pleasure in both. I try to keep an open mind.
@twouselesslegs I had forgotten all about this thread, but seem to recall we disagreed about something here some time ago. With regard to your latest comment, I'm not sure there's reason to SHOUT. My goodness, Whitney Houston must've struck a chord. As
opposed to George Harrison who must've struck a PLAGIARIZED
chord! Whitney had Hollywood and music industry greats lined
up for hours waiting to speak at her funeral. What did George
get at his funeral? A very drunk Jeff Lynne got on top of George's
casket and gave an incoherent speech about his career being
"washed up". Then, suddenly, Phil Spector shot and killed his
girlfriend. Poor George!

@hamlicker - I do not genuflect at the altar of celebrities, even
former Beatles. On one side of his mouth he preached the evils
of MATERIALISM, then he blithely went home to his 120-room
exotic mansion. If one were to take him at his word, we would
all be wondering what he must have done to deserve such
horrific "KARMA". To be viciously stabbed and then to die of

Drichansa 1 week ago
@Drichansa- I was mocking George's belief in Karma.
He claimed he believed in it. He would lecture others on
the matter of Karma and presumably, many of his fans
bought in on the silliness too. Now we find George being
viciously stabbed by an intruder. Then he dies of one of
one of the worst cancers possible. Do his fans openly
wonder what George must've done to deserve this '
"Karma"? Absolutely NOT! This means that they never
believed it, or they're embarrassed to mention it.

This is good! I too love the big production of ATMP.. of coarse Phil Spector helped with that. I love the guitar & Horns on the original! Guitars sound like horns and horns like guitars..truly awesome! I too am a musician and have the problem of not knowing when to stop!! I make the song good but always think..can it be better?
johnnydemo9 2 years ago
yeah this is better than the ATMP .. George allwaysa overproduced his songs never knowing when to stop... this is just beautiful as it is.
sunriseRISE 2 years ago
@sunriseRISE I am a musician, completely influenced by the productions of ATMP and LITMW and since I finished my first album back in 2003, I've believed the same thing about both George and myself...meaning I followed the formula of the overproduction value. It's hard to control the song when there's so much going on.
darkhoarse820 2 years ago
@sunriseRISE I don't think it was overproduced so much by George as it was by Phil Spector. Look up the ATMP EPK vid where George says that after listening to ATMP after all these years it had " To much echo".
yugitso 1 year ago

For some reason I think it works really well for "wah wah".
richig761 1 year ago
@QueenBeatlesWings Another way of looking at it is Phil Spector does the wall of sound things. If you don't want that ask someone like Jeff Lynne to produce your music which is what George Harrison eventually did

I don't know about all of you, but I actually prefer this take to the final one on All Things Must Pass. Less is truly more in this case. The simplicity only enhances the song's poignancy. I have acquired a considerably larger appreciation for this song.

There's a reason Spector didn't produce any of George's work after this. As much as I love the album, George's later albums were produced much better by himself IMO. The main thing, I don't think Spector did George's voice justice - far too buried in too many tracks.
subg88 2 years ago
Your opinion is interesting and to an extent I agree. On an emotional level I get Spector though. He makes it haunting. How do you feel about the Jeff L. work? How do you feel about Brainwashed. I value your opinion. Thanks sub.

Somewhere in the past..ARTISTS..did songs that taught us and gave us TOOLS of the HEART.

Agreed... There's just something lacking in today's music... There's just no emotion... No soul...
richig761 2 years ago 21
@richig761 and @SilentKnowledge8 There is plenty of music with emotion and soul these days. You just have to find it. Agreed there is no soul or emotion in the crap that's sold to the masses, but look beyond that and there's a wealth of inspiration.
jordanjustkidding 1 year ago
@jordanjustkidding There is. Yes. I have found some very good songs/albums written today. I just think it's a shame you have to dig deep to find it. I don't get why the modern pop culture's view of music is so simplistic nowadays.
richig761 1 year ago
@richig761 You're right richig761 - I think it has something to do with people like Simon Cowell making as much money as physically possibly out of the music industry - churning out pop act after pop act. Somewhere along the line popular music became a business, not an art. Consumerism killed it... Celebrity culture probably doesn't help.

@richig761 yup Technology is ruining are lives. People have even become lazy IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY! music is supposed to be one of the greatest gifts but todays "Stars" slap a song together in 2 minutes and throw a bunch of autotune in it and call it good. and it actually becomes a HIT! . some people just cant do anything right anymore:( screw my generation at least I have people like George:)
kozmicblues14 6 months ago
@kozmicblues14 Yup. Unfortunately, today is my generation as well. Pretty much everything I listen to is from my father's generation though, like this. There's a few bands out there that I like today, but not too many. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
richig761 6 months ago

I don't think the lyrics are any different from the final version on All Things Must Pass, except that here he forgets the words in the second verse.

Somebody could write the exactly lyrics of this version.
