I've always had the point of view that if someone is dumb enough to not wear a seat belt then they deserve to be thrown from a vehicle and die.

Still, not wearing a seat belt should not be against the law. It might help control the population and eliminate some real shit for brains idiots from the gene pool.

@counterclockwise123 The problem is, that people who does not wear their seat belt, may not make their kids wear it too.

Also, not having your seat belt may result, in a car crashh less violent than that, suffereing from a lot of health problems that will not kill you but leaving you disabled, and so becoming a huge loss of money for yourself, your family and/or social security.

So even for dumbass, safety belt must be compulsory.

i have a mk1 polo... it has no rear seatbelts and is probably one of the un-safest cars to drive in.. but, it doesnt bother me, i absolutely love the car, old cars (especially vw's) have a character that can not be found in new cars..

That is the most exact and reallistic way of testing! Have you watched the rollover crash tests from the highway security institute? They say that the cars are safe - yeah, they are in their tests, but not in real life!! They should test the cars here!!

You do realize that rust is not fake.. its a reality?? most 59, 69, 79, 89, 99 model cars are not gonna be free of rust??? So it is a valid test... it is WHAT WOULD HAPPEN if the two cars hit.. TODAY.. Not if a new car somehow went back in time to 1959 and hit a 59 Bel Air.

@kens97sto171 well no crap that if a rusted out car hits a brand new car, the new car is gonna win, the point of the video was to demonstrate how far the IIHS came in 50 years, NOT to see what would happen if they just happened to collide, which means, you would need a true crash test of a BRAND NEW restored 59, and a BRAND NEW 2009 malibu, and have the only variable be the age, instead of age, AND structural integrity

I think we are in agreement but have had a failure to communicate. I would hope that the Bel air was a close to new as possible. The iihs is a very respected testing agency. But the fact is there are no new 59 cars around. And quite a few mid 90's cars would be just as bad. You and I agree though the point was to show the improvement in the last 50 yrs.

Amazing how BAD they do, no belts, doors opening people falling out and being run over by the car.

When people would say They don't make them like they used to.. my Dad would always say THANK GOD!! He used to work on cars in the 40-50's Cable operated brakes, TUBE tires, oil changes every 1000 miles cause no filters.

@kens97sto171 the reason i like old cars is because of the imperfections, it gives them character. not every car was "perfect" instead you payed $12-$15 (in todays dollars) for oil and were glad you had something to get around in other than in a horse and buggy. today everyone takes their cars' ability to maintain itself for granted, i rather enjoy getting to work on my truck every few thousand miles.
