The kid who played Tug was like a tormented Pit Bull encased in baby fat and blonde hair. I thought he was a fantastic actor and gave the Muscle role the depth it really deserved. I smirked through the first 10 min. of this flick (Who are these kids, playing adults? What's with the hep-cat dialogue?), until it just dragged me in. If you havent seen it, it's cool and blazing, well-acted and thrilling. You just have to put reality on the shelf for a while. It's worth it. Noir's the best!
Thanks, @shinjukugewalt. I loved all the visual jokes, too---Brain's Rubics cube, that ridiculously 60's basement den, the Pin's mother's rooster OJ jug. Even Brandon Frye's old shoes were a kick. They were old-fashioned gumshoes. Get it?
It's interesting how this movie shows that upper-middle class high school kids are and always have been involved in deep organized crime and unlike popular belief high schoolers are a lot of times involved in the dark reality of crime syndicates. Therefore, the idea of setting a detective story in an upper-middle class high school adds to the uniqueness of the film taking you out of your comfort zone.
This is one of the best modern noir movies. Every character is realistic, with the main character and his friend being plausibly very smart, the dialogues are amazing... and it gives you a whole new perpective (and "humaine" side) of the underworld of modern societies. Must-see.

i saw this movie last night and it was so exaggerated...were supposed to believe some paper think cripple is the king pin drug lord?...and all this talk about things goin down...there talkin about principals and gettin in trouble with school...this was so wack....and were supposed to think high school kids are this elaborate with word play?...were in a generation thats not expected to pass the success of their parents...the difference between truth and fiction...is fiction has to be believable..
So a movie like the Dark Knight is believable but this isn't? I somehow don't see you knocking that movie but it's premise isn't exactly non fiction. Movies don't have to be believable to be exceptional, this movie's dialogue alone makes it better than 90% of films that have been released since this came out. I think it's an extremely well acted, written, and directed movie that's extremely underrated. But maybe thats a good thing : /
It's a surrealistic approach to most detective/crime films. By saying fiction has to be believable shows that your ability to comprehend this film is below average at best which made it a waste of time for you anyway.
This movie was on Channel 4 a couple of night's ago. I watched it and it was great. It was on late that night so i got to watch it myself. I need to buy this on DVD.
this film is absolutely amazing the way it caputres the teenage, middle class, suburban life i have started media studies at school n i swear i could use the film with everything i learning
This is probably the most original film I've seen in years. I saw it about two years ago and feel that it is on par with Fight Club. Rian Johnson is awesome. Can't wait to see his next movie: The Brothers Bloom.
I rented this last summer...I though it was gonna be just another high school pic...I was so wrong...one of the best films I ever seen!on those 24H I had it I watch it like 5 times...
can you please upload the movie for me, i really wanna watch it!! if you cant, can you tell me where i can download it? i live in australia and i dont think theres anywhere i can buy it.

I liked this movie and the music in it! Very creepy and nostalgic.
Yet I had trouble understanding it. Maybe due my hearing dissability by missing key words/phrases.
O well I looked up a FAQ on it so it's all good :).

Anyone know what the name of the song that plays in the opening of this movie and throughout it?
I can hear it near the end of this trailer too. Been looking for it for a while.

All the music from the Brick trailer is originally composed for the movie. You can find it all on the original soundtrack.
