In the last 100 years, global temperatures have increased by about 1 degree C. Realizing that it increases more in colder regions, the warmer ones have had virtually no effect.

@bubbah I have. A lot of the exact facts and figures change and different scientist say different things. What I do know, is that not only CO2, but water vapor, ozone, and methane gas are also greenhouse gases. (I know I left a few out, this is off the top of my head). Greenhouse gases help stabilize temperature. They block heat from the sun as well as trap heat on earth. I live in rural Kansas and talk to a lot of farmers, they don't think the climate has changed drastically.

@bubbah But the increase in heat is not the same in every area. Just like a blanket, the coldest areas would warm up more than a hotter ones. Around the equator, there would be virtually no change at all. Also, in colder regions the growing seasons would be longer. Also, the climate isn't changing rapidly. In the last 100 years, global temperatures have increased by about 1 degree C. Realizing that it increases more in colder regions, the warmer ones have had virtually no effect.

@bubbah I have. A lot of the exact facts and figures change and different scientist say different things. What I do know, is that not only CO2, but water vapor, ozone, and methane gas are also greenhouse gases. (I know I left a few out, this is off the top of my head). Greenhouse gases help stabilize temperature. They block heat from the sun as well as trap heat on earth. I live in rural Kansas and talk to a lot of farmers, they don't think the climate has changed drastically.

Think about the climate science as a circle with multiple layers (lets say 3 for eg's sake) - on the outside circle you have a 95%+ plus scientific consensus (man is contributing to climate change via CO2), on the inside circle's you have some disagreement and debate over certain modelling and predictions over the general spectrum of ice-caps melting, sea temps rising

@XanSnowz (sorry 2 spam u) - I think a flat tax (that goes up every once in a while) is better then an emissions trading scheme (cap n trade) - I like the cap part but not the trade part. I also think a tax shud be more heavily geared toward industry (excepting agriculture) making big business pay, & if they pass costs on giving compensation to working-class ppl - eventually green goods & services bcum the cheapest option & voilà u've had a societal paradigm shift.

@XanSnowz but without collectivizing entire nations (Mao style) and doing away with money, there is no way to build a future (or at the very least being able to adapt) to a future that will give our children & our childrens children a comparable quality of life to the one we've had - WITHOUT raising money from somewhere - we got work to do, but not many people want to do something because it hasn't directly affected them yet. Small island nations are already going under (see Tuvalu) :]

@LazarusCato - I agree that CO2 taxes are okay, since the pollution is bad no matter what, and that the money should be spent on cleaner long lasting energy resources, but I think it's the wrong idea to do it because we think CO2 is having a huge direct effect on Earth's climate.
Yeah, I've heard of Tuvalu, yet the fact that the island will be flooded is a natural thing that would have happened no matter what, because it's a natural thing for the oceans to rise and fall - It's just sad though :(

The US has already invaded two nations to secure oil supplies and ensure that their frankly wasteful consumption of oil can continue. The Russians have already attempted to claim the North Pole & surrounding Ice Shelf due to the Oil there, and it's not just oil that's at stake. Changing climate will cause wars. If the glacier that supplies India & Pakistan with water melts, they'll go to war & nuke each other over water supplies.

@shawnjohn0369 Um, no. The volcano fact is false. CO2 is an element of life, but it also traps heat. If we release enough (we are releasing millions of tons annually) it CAN heat up the Earth. It's not a fraud, it's science. The research scientists who actually gather the evidence in peer-reviewed studies, they have no incentive for fraud. The real scientists don't get invited on Fox (and paid to lie) or CNN, or profit off scaremongering. They are, sadly, little-known.

Missed a valuable opportunity to point out one of the actual good points Monckton makes, that all of the disaster scenarios are based on climate modelling which is not science in the sense of making observations but predicting the future without incorporating complexity. Not really a problem until you start Geoengineering on the basis of that data which people are already talking about. I'm with James Lovelock on this one; let the chips fall where they may.
