  • Was there anyone in the 80s who didn't pretend to be a disco junkie?

  • Love that the audience member couldn't be arsed to come up with their own story so they just read pauls top...

  • Anderson gave the impression that he was somewhat uncomfortable, lots of gibbering and hesitation in his speech. Very noticeable when you consider how slick he usually is

  • I love Clive Anderson

  • When did you upload this!? Never saw this before.

  • Let's face it, there was only one joke in the whole of the two sketches, Stephen's "promise not to put it there again" bit

  • Best Whose Line line-up ever

  • 5:27 Bahaha!

I'm not going to give it back to you unless you promise never to put it there again.

  • Yeah, only fatter, balder (despite elongated hair length) and token lithp.

  • Is that Jonathan Ross at the end? He doesn't look any different at all. What's it been? 20 years? o.0

  • @marcingrochala1

Clive Anderson included, this is a video of five of the funniest people on the face of the planet..notably Paul Merton.

What genius comedians do you like exactly? Chris Rock perhaps?

  • @BelfastAtheist In all fairness. Even I thought it was crap and I'm in love with all of them (except maybe Sessions and Anderson, I can take or leave em). They've been funnier...

  • I want a highway code sex manual.

  • S.M.H.M.S. Women's Chess Club!

    Haha Love Stephen t-shirt!

  • Stephen in that shirt is gorgeous. :D

  • so was this the first ever whose line??

  • no, this aired between the first and second seasons (series, if you're a brit). there were also 6 radio episodes that preceded the television show.

  • wtf was that johnathon ross at the end?

  • Actually, he's amazing at improv. He won Just a minute that was on the radio last Sunday :P

  • "Always wear a condom on a zebra crossing" LOL HILARIOUS!!

  • didn't realise that was lenny henry, really strange

  • hiding. just like Salman did then.

  • The audience were rubbish !!

  • OK def Stephen's first comment with the crayon was the best part.

also interesting seems like Clive Anderson looks not a ton different today but Stephen Fry looks really different. (then again I went from not existing to being born and stuff so I look even differenter...)

  • One of the few times I've seen Stephen in a T-Shirt.

  • I like Stephen's shirt

  • I was laughing because of Fry even before he said a word. That shirt was hilarious.

  • Wow before I was bornXD

  • Josie looks so short when she's standing between Stephen and Paul! (at 1.53 ish)

  • Who was the American guy?

  • No American guy there. Griff Rhys Jones, Lenny Henry, Clive Anderson and the four performers. They're all British.

  • ok is just that I thought the black guy spoke with an american accent

  • Paul eep! I love that man haha.

And Stephen<3 I always forget they were on whose line.

  • John as Griff is always hilarious

  • Its so funny how the audience react when Stephen says Salman Rushdie ,he was just as controversial 20 years ago as he is today

  • When I saw the Crayon, I was thinking what Ryan would've said:

    "Blistex delivery for Mr. Jagger."

  • How cool is Paul's dress sense? XD

  • Is Stephen gay? Well well. He's really hilarious.

  • I wish Clive would cheer up. But Stephen looks cute here :D

And that's Jonathan Ross! 20 years younger! Dude!

  • and now 20 years on he's now fired from the bbc xD

  • Not fired! Not fired! Just suspended...

I'm really gonna miss my Saturday mornings watching FNwJR on Iplayer...

  • sorry for being naive but who was suspended and why?

my excuse is im not british and am a teenager.

  • Jonathan Ross was suspended (back soon) because on Russell Brand's (he resigned) radio show they left answerphone messages on this old actor's phone saying that Russell Brand had slept with his granddaughter. There was this massive thing about it and the director of the radio station resigned as well. It really shouldn't have been that big

  • cheers, thanks but where was the mention of jonathan ross?

  • He comes up right at the end, after the Whose Line bit finishes

  • haha thanks

  • Stephen, Paul and John....why can't this happen more often?

  • bless stephen in casual clothes and slightly less gelled hair!

  • It's great to see how the show has evolved over the years. They all look about 12 years old! I love John's Griff impression, how many voices can he do?

  • @Ceilidh42 - Griff can also do a pretty good John impersonation. ^ ^

  • They are all amazing!!!

  • Omg, Stephen Fry is so young there...wow :D

  • PAUL AND JOHN!!!! are so adorable lol :):):) x

  • wow, clive is sooooo nervous!

  • Oh... Tried sending a message?

  • Oh... What does then?

  • Ooh... Quite like Griffith, then?

  • The wrong place? Where was it supposed to have been typed?

  • Eh? Why's that then? What are you talking about?

  • Mmm Stephen Fry.

Aww Paul looks adorable at 1:22!

  • they all seem terrible awkward, its better on the normal show when they on the normal show !

  • I love Stephen and Paul's shirts!

  • hahaha women's chess team

  • Perhaps t'is you, the talentless one,

    The one who must criticise

Have you never sat and listened?

The words you say are lies.

  • aww stevens so young! I <3 him! he's great in QI! x

  • I know! And so handsome <3 XD

    Lol at his shirt.

    Love Paul too xx

  • Sadly Stephen Fry is homosexual (gay). Even I couldn't beleeive it when I first heard. But I still like him.

    And Paul is the best!!!!

  • Thanks for clearing up what homosexual meant, I wouldn't have guessed it meant gay. And why would him being gay put you off liking him?

  • Theres no need for sarcasm! and no him being gay doesnt put me off at all. It wouldnt for any case.

  • that post was for Palare

  • I loved him in V for Vendetta!

  • i can't believe how young paul looks here, having just watched a recent HIGNFY ep! im loving the yellow suspenders.

  • John Sessions does Griff Rhys Jones impressions that are better than the real thing! XoD

  • Eh? Hang on! There's only ONE Griff Rhys Jones...

  • Watch episode 1x08 (with both John and Griff) and then come back to me ;o)

  • I don't need to, I have it on DVD. What are you talking about, by the way?

  • I'm referring to your comment that "there's only one Griff". Watch episode 1x08, especially during the credits. Whose Line Wiki (formerly Dean's Guide) says "One of the best credit readings in the entire history of the show. Watch Griff stop and watch John doing a better Griff than he can!"

  • Stephan Fry has such a cool voice.

  • They all look so young! LOL. I mean look at Paul and Stephen! haha

  • Oh dear me, look at Josie's hair! Man alive, perms were just a baaaad idea

  • He's the author of The Satanic Verses*, amoung other works.

*this is the one that got him into trouble, wikipedia has a decent page about him and his life.

  • Salman Rushdie is a very respected author but he had a death warrant issued on him by a fundamentalist religious leader many years ago and so spends a lot of time in hiding. And apologising for whatever he's meant to have done wrong.

  • "I'm not going to give it back to you unless you promise never to put it there agian"

  • "I've been sticking it up me bottom again, haven't I?"

  • Lol every1 in tht have been in QI But im not sure about Paul Merton...

  • Lol, right at the beginning wen there introduced Josie barley gets an applause compared to Stephen in front of hear.

  • I agree entirely, dubzy81, Paul Merton is the king! He's my hero and I love him to bits, so much so that I wrote a poem about him. I also wrote one about the show itself and Stephen Fry. I need to get out more, I know. Paul Merton wouldn't even want to know me, though, sadly; and besides which, I think he's just 34 years and 1 week older than I am. He was 50 on Monday the 9th of July 2007. You work it out. Both born on a Tuesday, I'll tell you that.

  • Hehe brilliant.

    Oh wow, Stephen looks amaaaazing.

    *melts*

  • Paul Merton is the undisputed king of this show, you gotta admit it! He makes it look easy.

  • Has Stephen ever worn anything like this at any other time in his life? I don't think I've ever seen him this casual. It's sort of messing with my mental "Stephen Fry paradigm."

  • Wow.

Paul Merton and Stephen Fry on the same show.

    Wow.

    Wow.

    <3

  • I know what you mean, they are brilliant XD

  • Stephen looking very hot. They are all so funny tho

  • Josie, you doll!!!!

  • Did Richard Dawkins invent time travel in 2020 and travel back in time to host this show?

  • Comment removed

  • This is cool, before the actual show was made.

  • This was during the show's run, not before. Albeit it was in the very, very beginning (while the radio version was still on, apparently, which *is* pretty early).

  • Stephen's wearing a t-shirt!! Eee, that excites me utterly beyond reason, it really does. Oh, that man is adorable. And I love his Salman Rushdie- very nice.

I must say, I've always really liked 'Authors.' I'm not sure why people don't... but then, I do tend to prefer the rather too intellectual humour. Probably why I love Johnny Sessions as much as I do.

  • Not only is it a t-shirt, it's a woman's chess club t-shirt!! Awesome!

  • Women's Chess Club :)

    Stephen in a T-Shirt!

  • Oh Stephen Fry and his crayon... :)

  • gotta love John's impression of Griff Rhys-Jones.

  • haha wow they really bombed, hmmm. live tv ay?...maybe not as improv as we think ! dun dun dun!

  • I think part of the reason why this isn't as good as the regular episodes was because of the games they played. Authors tends to be boring (except for the last couple of plays, those were rather good, IMO) and Props has always seemed to be just a time filler to me. I think they chose Authors because it was really the signature game back then, and Props because it tends to be a very short game.

  • I think this predates the television show, and dates from the radio only days. That might explain the awkwardness.

  • This is most likely from when the first season was airing on TV - Clive actually mentions that Whose Line airs on Channel 4 television near the beginning, so it's not from the radio-only days.

  • I agree with you about Authors, I only seemed to enjoy it when Tony Slattery chose something ridiculous to read in the style of.

  • Where the hell did you get this?

  • WTATA. Same place I got all the regular episodes from (except season 8, I grabbed those off a UKNova torrent a few months ago before I got DD rights at WTATA).
