have a look at the video "brilliant Newfoundlander invents the solution" and the "solar cans -cbc", which could be a great thing. Many seniors can't afford to heat their homes through the Canadian winter. It may not work in subzero temperatures.. but still, maybe the world is ready for this.
Thought I would suggest the fan be pushing cool air into the box, longevity would be my fear. I would still want the fan to be at room temp however, as sub zero may give the bearings a hard time. I imagine though once the sun comes up the fan would warm up nicely
If it works , go for it I say, you guys give me inspiration.
"great" !. easy way to cut /can`s. Table-saw, w/ "metal" cutting type/ blade/circular. Just touch the can on edge`s, they pop right off. { try can`s that stack best}
well then I got 82Amps combined out my HPiggot unit and the FE genny on one of the gusts in last nights big winds up here in bonny scotland, what I high just about cooked all my kit I can feel an upgraded system comming on soon I have a 1 kilowatt electric fire bar as a dump now and some landrover winch relays off my rangey to switch the dump on heavy duty things are happening, keep on blowing things but this setup seems to be better
well done Recardo recycled double good the silicon can be coated with plumbers waste pipe glue and the paint will take to that black matt paint that is, I think if you were to matt the inside of your box rather than reflecting the sun back out it would also help to lift the internal box temp and this heat would defuse into you silicon sealed cans anyway how the hell are you big fellar
what kind of pint did you use to paint the cans i tried this and the paint came of the silicone and how big are the holes in the bottoms of the cans to let air pass through
To russell2030 (1 week ag) why do you ever need empty aluminum cans in there?
I think it assists in acting as another separation, but if you use recycled double glazing, matt black paper should work really well as it has a flash point well above any temp you will ever get in the cabinet, or a matt-blacked slim radiator or fire-bricks which will slow-release late into the night. Full sealed out-of-date cans of liquid will store heat the best for slow release after the sun goes down though:o)
well donne mylarjorgen, you hit the nail in the head, absolutely right the cans absorb the heat, get extremely hot and warms the air has it passes inside.
What an excellent idea. So if you have enough cans and link them all to flow one tower to the next with the cold air coming in at the bottom & zig zaging up to the top (horizontally not vertically), then you'd probably not even need the solar panel to drive the air! Hot air rises naturally, coz of convection. I knew someone who had a home made solar water heater that used covevection (no pump) simply because the panel was on the garden & the tank was in the attic. Hot water rises too!
on the right track, get a can of flat black spray paint

That's real clever. Do you have a website with all the instructions, like in a .pdf or anything?

I would have thought that full cans of fizzy drink would explode when heated.

humbertini900 3 years ago
this is awesome! make your cold air intake come from the house as well.. so you are just topping off prewarmed air.
