This ass just said America will use its military to "gain access" (i.e. steal) whatever resources around the globe it needs. What a lying pessimist!
How about believing that America will innovate and find better ways to harness energy?

I don't think he's a pessimist at all. I think he understands exactly why we are fighting a perma-war in Iraq. If you don't get it, then you have not seen Iraq's new petroleum law that L. Paul Bremer put in place especially for Chevron, BP and Shell. Can you say corporatism?

Trying to sell us on "Peak" isn't really the correct issue to be dealing with. As James Hansen comments, if we burned all the coal, we're going to go way past a tripling in CO2 concentrations.
Then you get into the nasty issue associated with methane clathrates.
Whats perhaps more interesting is the tripling in capital cost associated with coal plants.
